Compared to similar eateries in the vicinity, Golden Bowl Cafetiam is priced reasonably affordable.
I must say that i really like Golden Bowl Cafetiam may it be the one at Batu Lanchang or the one at The Promenade.
I like this Black color Charcoal Lao Sha Bao...yummy....
The Promenade is one of the latest dining places in Bayan Baru.
One of my favorite dishes is the steamed glutinous rice 糯米饭. It is certainly not a dish I expected to find in a restaurant. Unlike the more common lor mai kai, this humble dish of lor mai fan is served with only dried shrimps, roasted peanuts, and spring onions. The sticky rice turned out well with firm chewy texture. Steamed glutinous rice RM7.50nett
These restaurants inherited the traditional pan mee recipe that passed down by their granny. The pan mee served here are home made and insisted to be hand cut rather machine. The taste of the PanMee are flavorful and delicious
Overall the food here, i would say is just average, nothing special to shout about but i like dining here because their food is acceptable, environment is comfortable and service is good.
Every bowl of Pan Mee here is enjoyable thanks to fresh ingredients. You can taste it on your own, the al-dente noodles with unique texture, and coupled with all sorts of ingredients make the Pan Mee a comfort food to have during lunch or dinner.
I pretty love the Imitation Fin Soup serving here because it does not too thick and the saltiness is perfectly suited my liking.
Here's the location.
If you are into getting a quick bite during lunch or dinner, then here would be a good place.
During our visit, we had a bowl of Jumbo Curry Mee (RM 13.90). It did not disappoint, as the Jumbo Curry Mee still carry their aromatic curry soup traits, and the addition of various ingredients such as roasted pork, cockles, beancurd skin were complementing the noodles well. Add on some of their signature chili paste for a more spicy sensation.
Canning Dim Sum Express is now open for Dine in again, so you may have your favorite dim sum comfortably inside of Canning Dim Sum Express again and what is more awesome is that they are now certified HALAL.
Canning Dim Sum
The ambiance of the restaurant makes it a really good spot for catching up with friends and family.
Steamed Red Snapper with Cantonese Style The red snapper was fresh and it blended well with the top grade soy sauce that made this dish simply excellent.
Verdict: I was largely contented with my Hokkien Mee supper. I know there are many good Hokkien Mee at Penang but 888 Hokkien Mee will definitely scores up to your expectation.
What I like most about this dish is the soup – very rich in taste; the rice vermicelli is also just nice and not too soggy (I know we are not talking about pasta here but what the hell, it is perfectly al dente!) We added some extra ingredients (roast pork) and it goes very well with the overall dish.
What I liked is there are many side dishes like pork ribs, crisp pork, porkballs, fish balls and many more. There aren't many hokkien mee here with such variety. Prices starts from rm4 for a large bowl with surcharges for its side dishes ranging from rm1-rm2. The outlet is still new so cleanliness and comfort is not an issue. Staff are friendly unlike the 888 hokkien mee nearby. Another new place to add to my lunch list.
Nothing spectacular on the toppings but the braised Beef was a winning glory. The meat was beautifully cooked with flavors and addictive meaty texture.
Most of the dishes did not disappoint but we thought they were boldly seasoned. The Green Curry Chicken possessed the distinctive flavors but the indelible sweetness left us underwhelmed. Equally sweet was the Hot Pot Tanghoon. We did not expect the dish to be drenched in soup as we were expecting a Thai-styled Claypot Glass Noodles instead. The taste was decent but not exactly what we hoped for. The Thai-styled Mango Kerabu on the other hand was good. The Mango was perfectly ripened and carried the unique acidic touch and fruity essence. The Eastern Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles resembles Mee Goreng, it was again on the sweeter side but with the quintessential Wok Hei and delightful spicy touch, we thought the dish was beautifully executed. With the small serving portion, we did not think it was a cheap meal so it shall remain as an occasional place for lunch.
Fried Oyster stall in Bayan Baru Food Court is one of the hidden gems in Penang. Serving delicious oyster for over 40 years, the oysters are so fresh and juicy. The omelette is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and this is the hardest part to make. The portion of fried oysters is generous and the price is reasonable. This is one of the recommended stalls.
Serving variety of food ranging from Chicken Rice to Economy Rice and from Wantan Noodles to Malay Dishes there are a lot of food to choose from here and this place is usually pack with people during weekdays lunch hour.
So the next time you’re over at Bayan Lepas, do drop by at Hong Kong Kitchen for a Dim Sum feast.
Noteworthy dish is their HK Snow Mountain Bao, basically Char Siew Bao with crispy-flaky skin. Ours were served to us warm and the overall flavor combo worked... definitely an interesting change to the traditional Char Siew Bao
Their assam laksa, with lai fen (laksa noodles) in a piquant fish broth boiled with mackerel, tamarind and local spices comes with a heirloom of vegetables and a spoonful of thick prawn paste ‘hae ko’ (蝦羔). Drizzled with the prawn paste, the sour, tangy and spicy flavors of the assam laksa really hit the spot.
All in all its value or money and given the ambience, a good place to while away some time and relax to food and fellowship.
Penang has never run out of hidden gems, especially when food is concerned. Relau 88 Laksa is one good secret, the Assam Laksa stall housed within a garden supply shop at a corner house along Jalan Paya Terubong at Relau has been serving pleasurable Assam Laksa for months. Since it shares the same place as the garden supply store, the place is surrounded with charming flowers but it does get stuffy under the sultry hot weather. Positive reputation spread through words of mouth, the place is now thronged with patrons in the know. It is particularly busy on weekends, especially for those who yearn for a light, refreshing lunch/ snack. But Relau 88 is not a one trick pony, the locals' favorite icy sweet treats- Cendol and Ice Kacang are also available to cool your summer day.
One last bowl of noodles before I get to the Penang Airport. Right off the roadside a nice place to chow down. Choose your ingredients and noodles. Fried Fish, Fishballs and Veggies.
Simple food which are favorite for locals here in Penang.
The environment inside Beyond Taste Cafe is simple with plenty of seating place to choose from. It is comfortable and a nice place to dine in.
The pot was stir fried with ginger, peanuts, onions and garlic to give it a nice taste. Dried chilies were prominent in our pot as we picked the mild level of spiciness, though it was alright still in the heat produced (Chongqing spiciness should be insanely hot we believe). Overall it was a great pot to enjoy!
Overall, a good eat and relaxation for the tired and those in need of a quick and fulfilling bite.
As an overview, Siew Bai, Gua Bao (Taiwanese Pork Belly Bun), Cai Tao Kuih, Tang Bao were good
Both dry and soup versions were almost identical, save for the former one was dressed with dark soy sauce. Inderawasih's pork broth carried bold meaty flavor, in which some may find it overly heavy. Each bowl of Koay Teow Th'ng will be served with Fish Balls, Egg, minced Pork and a couple of Shrimps. We disliked the fact that the Egg was overly boiled, we would prefer the whole, runny Egg. Overall, we thought the porky notes were too bold to our liking.
The Koay Teow Soup is served in 3 sizes, namely small (RM 7.50), medium (RM 9), large (RM 10.50) that has egg and prawns added for medium and large size. If you do not mind splurging, consider adding minced pork as it is real delicious.
Koay Teow Soup with lemon is unique and to be exact, awkward. This is for the perception of those that haven't tried it before. However, once try before it is very refreshing and flavourful. Besides the lemon add-on, there is the option of adding bitter gourd also. For those that adventurous enough to try out new food, Kafe Kam 88 is the place that you must not miss out.
