San Lau in Chinese means 三撈 and in English means three-tossed. The food being tossed here are the Hor fun, fish slices, and bean sprouts.
Hong Kong Street Zhen Ji in Ang Mo Kio, your pocket friendly Cze Char Place.
It is definitely a good place for a family meal during the weekends and do note that reservations can be made in advance for big groups only.
面有咸辣,微香甜,淡碱古早味。调味微微的,象我小时候幼儿园旁吃的云吞面。我竟然最先把面给刻完,而没把云吞吃完。
This is the most popular stall at this little hawker centre frequented mostly by folks who live nearby.
If you decide to visit 453 AMK Wanton Mee, I would recommend giving the Prawn Dumpling Noodles a try!
The fishballs had a good fish flavour, some kind of savoury meaty flavour, had a good handmade texture but was yet still bouncy, and came in a slightly savoury seaweed soup. The noodles were not to my preference, although the flavour grew on me, tasting overwhelmingly of deep salty savoury soy sauce and pork oil, with some savoury minced meat, pork lard and fried shallots.
Hup Kee is opened by two brothers, originally from Ipoh but learned their culinary craft in Pahang.
The Hokkien mee was prawny, sticky and very flavourful – the stock was good. Even the chilli had a good hae bi fragrance. Prawns were fresh and sweet. Unexpectedly very nice.
If judging by best value for price paid, there’s nothing like the size or ingredients of these show-stoppers! I’m also amazed by how much seafood Sumo Big Prawn is able to pile into every bowl.
If i am to compare the values, the Crayfish Bee Hoon Soup is definitely of a better value as compared to the Lobster Bee Hoon Soup but the Sumo Big Prawn Bee Hoon Soup is more worth it as it is served with 4 pieces of relatively fresh big prawns at just $8.
Gim Tim Restaurant 2022 157 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 #01-546 https://www.gimtim.com.sg/ Steamed Red Grouper Fish With Minced Chye...
There is a Malaysian-style bak kut teh shop out in Ang Mo Kio (107 Ang Mo Kio Ave 4 Street 11 #01-138), and I liked it. The Chinese herbs were aromatic but light, and to my surprise, they even offered a meatball option. Best of all, the stank in those meatballs kept them exciting. I wouldn't mind eating here again.
I had never heard of these guys (163 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 #01-446, 6458-7374), but apparently their charcoal-grilled bak kwa is in such high demand that it's difficult to get on the waiting list for it. And it is pretty good, with its very tender and mildly smoky meat.
If you do not want to queue for hours during the Chinese New Year, this particular family-owned bak kwa shop is definitely a good alternative but do order earlier to avoid disappointment.
I thought this was a very average chee cheong fun, with the meat trio chee cheong fun not as soft and silky as I would have liked, and the char siew and chinese and Taiwanese sausage fillings tasting a bit tough and porky, overwhelming the entire flavour of the light soy sauce.
Rice & Roll definitely has the potential to go far and despite their innovative combination of ingredients, they’ve got the basics pat down.
When you’re going to Thong Heng, pay special attention to the Chinese spoons that come with the porridge.
House of Li Xiang is an excellent place to grab lunch, especially if you’re craving for good and unpretentious hawker fare.
I actually prefer the other Wanton Mee too. Their chilli is spicer and more aromatic. Their noodles are springier and firmer. Their braised chicken feet is more flavorful as well.
I wouldn't mind eating here again.
As a frequent traveler to Hong Kong, I can attest that this is one of the closest choices that you can get without flying to Hong Kong.
Overall, Ming Mun is a great option for those who aren’t picky with their Roasted meats.
Overall, the standard of food is definitely there and given the chance, I don't mind making a return for other stuff on the menu.
Very good carrot cake served with a contagious smile! Perfect when you need something tasty to fill the stomach and positive vibes to fill the soul!
