The 3-flavored Black Pomfret did not impress us from the appearance but it was in fact, skillfully cooked. Penang Assam Laksa or better known as Penang Laksa, is originated from the emergence of Chinese and Malay elements (Baba and Nyonya). The specialty of Penang Laksa is its thick and sour minced fish soup with a little spiciness. That is because the soup is cooked with chili paste and assam (tamarind) water to prevent the fishy smell. The soup is served with rice noodles and vegetables, and shrimp paste. The shrimp paste adds sweetness to the soup, which distinguish Penang Laksa from other types of Laksa in Malaysia.

My verdict : With its 4 ringgit per bowl price, everything’s worth it! The sour tamarind sauce, the salty and thick fish stock blended so well with chillies and the herbs and noodles and everything on it! Thankfully, I had the chance to understand the logic of CNN in naming Penang Assam Laksa as 7th out of 50 Most Delicious Foods in the World! It was indeed, delicious!

My Penang laksa. The soup base is very flavorful and filled with generous amount of flaked mackerels. The 'ha-ko'/ thick prawn paste amplify the flavor of this dish much, much more. Sweet, sourish taste with refreshing mint and onion slices stimulates all my taste buds!

One of the item that we enjoyed here is Kiam Bak （香酥咸肉 / RM 12 for 2 pax ). It has a slight crisp texture and a tad briny taste that made this simple dish a good pairing for any noodles or rice. If you prefer a less meaty taste, dip those kiam bak into the spicy and sour sauce provided. The meat has a relatively big portion of fatty meat though.

One of the oldest and well-known roast houses in Jelutong area is Kim Poh... previously housed within a snug lot under a low-cost flat behind the famous Kim Leng Loh Mee but it has since moved to a bigger lot right opposite to the aforementioned Loh Mee stall. The new shop is brighter and seemingly cleaner; it's hard to miss Kim Poh... the huge facade and signage will easily catch the attention of any road users on Perak Road. The renovation gave the shop a modern interior with comfortable seating; business has been brisk with long queues spotted during lunch hours and dinner hours. Kim Poh specializes in Roasted goodies, particularly Roasted Chicken, Roasted Duck, Barbecue Pork and Roasted Pork... along with mains like Wan Ton Mee, Porridge, Rice and sides like braised Tofu/ Egg, blanched Bean Sprouts etc. We believe one of the reasons that contributed to the success of Kim Poh is the affordable prices and quality offering.

Bak Kut Teh turned out to be a delightful surprise. Flavorful and rated as good for someone who rarely fancy vegetable soup and brown rice. It is a creative dish when Idealite's chef introduced buckwheat noodles in this Tomyum soup. Yes, I picked buckwheat and this is more commonly known as 'Soba' on Japanese menu. Despite its name, buckwheat is unlike wheat, it is gluten free!

As for desserts, we had this Signature Sesame Paste and it was really good. Not only black sesame seeds were blended, but also some Millet were added to give the extra flavor. It was not too sweet and just perfectly nice for people who does not have a sweet tooth like me.

The well-received help-yourself concept of Tom Yum is being taken to a different level at Super One Pot Restaurant, Bukit Bendera; it plays a brilliant bet on food presentation. The name might have suggested how... all self-picked ingredients are cooked then served in a small pot... individually. But that's all we reckon, variety is pretty standard-average here (with reasonable prices), with one or two special add ons such as Lor Bak, Pork Chop and Grilled Shrimps. If I must recommend one item, it would be their fiery hot Tom Yum. To find Super One Pot Restaurant, drive along Jalan Bukit Bendera, before reaching to the cable car station, Super Ont Pot Restaurant is on your right (beside the entrance to the Jade Emperor God Temple (天公坛).

Having curry mee as my breakfast is not my style but if a curry can seduce me to finish up the entire bowl, this is consideres one of the best curry mee to me.

We had one of their signature dishes-- Tom Yam Seafood soup for Rm30. The soup was served using a pre-heated claypot and the soup comes with big and succulent prawns, fish meat, squid, sea asparagus and some clams. The Tom Yam was overall, very appetizing and good to my taste; with a balanced taste of sweet, sour and spiciness. The spiciness was perfectly okay for me, if you wish the soup be slightly spicier, do tell the lady when she's taking your orders. The portion was good enough for us to divide into six small bowls. I just love to enjoy Tom Yam soup with loads of seafood ingredients. Recommended.

There is nothing to shout about because it is quite a common dish in any restaurant around. The slices of pork were well marinated with cornstach before deep fried. The ingredients of sweet & sour sauce were brought to a boil and serve hot over the deep-fried slices of pork. Loved by olds and youngs.

Though the Chinese Rice Wine Chicken turned out to be a little odd (we were expecting steamed Chicken doused in Chinese Rice Wine or something along that line), the dish turned out to be quite good to be spooned over rice. Hailed by many as one of the best local longtime fixture for Dim Sum in the neighborhood of Farlim/ Air Hitam, K.K. Dim Sum Garden (佳佳点心苑) is usually packed with extended families, neighborhood regular patrons and adventurous foodies during peak hours (8 am to 11 am) in the weekends. It has the classic Malaysian Dim Sum joint setting- with simple tables and chairs being set up by the road side while the aged servers pushing the Dim Sum carts or carrying the Dim Sum baskets around. K.K is said to be one of the earliest Dim Sum joints in the neighborhood and its opening can be traced back to at least a decade ago. Do not expect a big variety but some straight-forward, unassuming timeless but solid Dim Sum favorites with one or two unique in-house specialties.

Personally, we enjoyed the char scent imparted by the chef to the fried rice, and presence of tiny char siew pieces and fried shallots further elevated its aroma. Pour in the nice sambal to introduce a subtle heat component makes the fried rice even more enjoyable.
