Price wise, this comes cheaper than Da Dong and the waiting time is probably shorter as well. It is a good alternative if you want to have a competent bowl of prawn noodles in Joo Chiat.
The stock was more crustaceany and prawny, plus thick and layered, but not so sweet. The prawns were really fresh and sweet, so much so that you could pull the flesh off the shell very easily. Wah Kee was still the gold standard, of the prawny rather than porky broth as it was here, although this was really not bad.
Personally, we prefer the old Sinpopo where it feels more family orientated. The selection of dishes for the new Sinpopo is rather limited and may not be suited to everyone's taste. While the main courses are a tad pricey, the desserts such as the cakes are worth trying.
Another must-try was the Satay Ayam ($16) smoky and succulent morsels of chicken thigh sided by a mild crushed peanut sauce.

I finally made it out to Yi Zun tonight (60 Joo Chiat Road #01-08, 6909-9287), and it was much better than Salar.
The only thing that I didn't like about this bowl was the beef, which was too lean and dry, especially compared to Xibu Mahua. But I'm more than happy to eat here again.
I rate the beef noodle as OK. I won’t mind coming back to try their other noodle dishes.
We had barely scratched the surface regarding the offerings, but we were pleased with our chosen selections. In terms of taste, it is as authentic as it should be. While the decor could be a hit and miss depending on your age group, with many more dishes yet to try, we will return for seconds!

A typically simple stir-fry of Baby Kailan ($12 for small) was jazzed up with dried sole fish. Fantastic stuff.
Those looking for zhi char takeaway in Joo Chiat should find Joo Heng Restaurant a good option. It offers convenience and homey comfort food at reasonably affordable prices. We could hardly ask for more at current times.
But if you are looking for a satisfying meal of rice and several dishes, then Joo Heng will still deliver the goods, and very quickly, I might add.
Teck Ee Teochew Rice & Porridge Review
Not the most mindblowing plate of wanton mee, but it’s pure old school comfort food which I would be happy to eat every week.
Will I Return Again? I am excited to head back here for my Wanton Mee craving. I do not have any other close alternatives for Wanton Noodles in Joo Chiat at the moment, so leave me comment if you know of any good ones in this precinct.
