This is the main star that caught me into the outlet. Hong Kong Polo Bao with New Zealand Butter @ RM 4.80. It is not too bad for a bun. Fresh soft bun, flaky crusty top and with a slice of butter and a glass of coffee its a great combination.
NanYang Pork Burger with Fries at MYR 15.90++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 18.45 nett). I ordered this burger because I wanted to eat fries and they did not disappoint. The fries were better than those served in fast food chains because they were fleshier. I like the pork burger because of the thin hard dry slice of flavourful pork chop which tastes almost like the pork chop in macau pork burger.
Special pork knuckle in preserved bean sauce with tossed noodle (RM12.90) - using specially selected pork knuckle, they are braised for several hours with fu yue (fermented bean curd) until tender. Loved it - the texture was perfect for me, especially the lovely gelatinous skin. This is a good choice for those who prefer more saucy noodles. Served with a bowl of peppery pork soup.
The Steamed Ocean Dragon Groupa with Fresh Abalone, “Seng Kwa” & Squid Ball Taishan Style is indeed one of my favorites. The fish comes amazingly delicious with the flaky fish meat and ypped with the bouncy squid balls. The abalone remains its juiciness and moisture. Everything is perfect and above my expectation.
So we started off with some true blue Teochew recipes that is simply wonderful and homey to the tummy, before moving on to the rest of the mains and some signatures from this establishment.
We were there recently to check out the Dim Sum and had a hard time deciding what to order, scanning the Dim Sum Menu for many minutes. The dishes are categorized under Appetizers, Steamed Dim Sum, Cheong Fun Selection, Deep-fried/Pan-fried/Baked items, Porridge, Chef’s Specials, BBQ Selection, Noodles & Rice and Desserts. In between scrutinizing the menu and looking at the pictorial presentation on their huge wall screens, we settled on these delicious plates…
Overall, the food is up to expectation and it is that is probably the reason why they are so popular at EkoCheras Mall. To be honest, we prefer their signature fish or seafood with garlic and chill in a pot, rather the usual steamed fish. The reason we didn’t order that because there is only a few of us and our boys don’t take chilli. Price of their food is on the average or high side as it depends on how you interpret it.
Overall, we felt that we are not accustomed with the taste of some of the dishes. It doesn’t mean that the food taste is bad but we were just not familiar with it. Saying that, they do have their regular customers. Price is on the high side and service is a bit slow. If you want something different than the usual local Chinese food, you can visit Restoran Hao Shi Ji at EkoCheras Mall Cheras.
My personal favourite dish here is the Pan fried seafood paste with scallops (RM78). Light in flavour, the egg white sauce complements the seafood paste and Australian scallops, without overwhelming their sweet, natural flavour.
