The long-established Chinese home-styled restaurant has been there for long and has since, earned its reputation for being one of the best Chinese restaurants around. Nestled within the housing area, the restaurant occupies 3 units with a huge signage can be easily spotted from far. The place is huge and could easily accommodate diners in large groups, air-conditioned seats are available too. The Cantonese-styled menu is large and reasonably priced (in the context of Klang Valley's living standards).

The first time I came to B & Best restaurant was about 6 years ago. Even though their Teochew seafood noodle and fish cakes were good, I didn’t really bothered to return. I think I was more interested in food that offers more exciting flavors back then. Now that I am not that young anymore, I am starting to develop appreciation for lighter and finer tasting food like seafood noodle. Besides, it would be interesting to see how B & Best fare against Pong Kee and Soon Kee.

If you have been watching this space for a while now, you probably already know how much of a fanatic I am for upmarket Chinese food. Just when I thought I have found another great one in the market according to INVITED REVIEWS, I am here to debunk it! Dao Xiang specialises in Shunde Cuisine. I have tried another Shunde cuisine before and I thought the copper bowl concept was pretty interesting because the food was extremely aromatic, but not enhanced. It's just pure goodness of the ingredients used.

Di Wei at Empire Hotel Subang really should have gotten more limelight amongst chinese cusine lover. Led by Chef Thian, the restaurant is taking pride in their new menu with plenty of sous vide dishes. Commonly a technique used aplenty in Western cooking, this technique is rare in preparation of chinese cuisine. Missing a couple of dishes at the meal, this would probably be one of the short and breezy posts. Arrived in time to savour their soup and a couple of their signature dishes, I should apologies for not being able to shoot everything that’s served. We thought this is another dim sum restaurant, apparently it's a fast food chain for bao and dim sum. Besides having the food in the restaurant, there are actually more options for frozen bao and dim sum which attracts quite some crowd to take away.

The first entree was Roasted duck skin with black truffles and fresh fruits. This was a killer combo; so kudos to the chefs! The crispy duck skin had a melt-in-the-mouth layer of fat underneath, while the meat was tender and had none of the gamey flavour duck is notorious for. The bed of fresh fruit with a dusting of truffle was earthy, sweet, rich and refreshing at the same time.

One of my favorite things from this set is the dessert, the Chilled avocado pudding with citrus lemongrass sauce. Smooth and creamy, absolutely delish.. it's a must-try!

My choice for lunch is the Pork Noodle soup version (dry version also available), the Soup/Broth is pork bone based, not salty. The bowl comes with pork lard + fried garlics, pork meat, and few types of pig innards. Generally, its not too bad.

The Char Siu/Chicken rice combo was pretty good. The chicken was tender and juicy, the char siu was sweet and succulent. Oooo and the sauce/gravy made the whole dish even better. It was thick and sweetish.

Set C – Egg Wrap Rice with Lemongrass Fried Chicken, 14.90 ringgit. Set C was da bomb ! Seriously. The fried rice was yummy and flavorful, add on a crispy fried chicken on the side – yum! Each mouthful was awesome, I just kept coming back for more. There were also some fish crackers + salad + pickled sweet vegetables on the side. Love it. We had Teh O’ for drinks and dessert? Well I cannot comment much on the dessert because it never arrived. Yes, we waited and waited and waited and it never arrived but thank god my stomach was full at the end of it all that loosing out on the dessert did not matter much, lol. Set A was yummy too, the garlic fried rice had the usual garlic-ky taste. If you fancy a fried rice of the garlic variety, do give Set A a try but me? I am all for Set C, in love with it.

My Personal Opinion Since this is such an old name specialising in Ipoh sar hor fun, perhaps the standard isn't as good as they were back then. Nothing from the hor fun to the soup base to the prawn wontons to the poached chicken I cared for really. The environment of an old and dated shop with a slightly dark and not-so-clean interior didn't help it one bit.

We ordered Pan Mee Soup (RM7) which came with a generous amount of minced pork, slices of mushroom, fried crispy anchovies and plenty of sweet potato leaves. The soup base is bursting with multiple flavours from the sweet potato leaves and ikan bilis stock. The noodles’ (mee hoon kueh) texture was incredibly smooth, soft and mostly importantly not chewy.
