Nasi Lemak PEEL ROAD
Loaded my plate with fried chicken, sambal sotong and mutton curry. All the dishes went well with the rice, which was creamy but subtle. I can see why the chicken is so popular – extremely flavourful (not just on the skin but on the inside as well), addictively crunchy on the outside whilst being tender and moist on the inside. The mutton curry was not gamey at all and not too spicy; while the sambal sotong had a nice sweet and savoury tang to it with just enough kick. Two plates cost us RM15, which is very reasonable imo considering its a meal in the city centre.
Verdict Overall there was simply nothing bad to say about Peel Road Nasi Lemak. It tastes much like the conventional nasi lemak but with a little porky twist. The variety of side dishes can be a little overwhelming and the prices are fair due to it being a road side stall.
Dynasty Xiao Long Bao tastes superb. I miss the Xiao Long Bao that I had in China. My pick would be their Cheese, Garlic, Schewan while other tastes normal to me. Dynasty Xiao Long Bao @ 29.90
I do have a favourite prawn mee in PJ which I've not gotten round to blogging about coz I've not had that prawn mee in quite a while. However, this is still a very decent prawn mee...but was it better than my favourite prawn mee in PJ? Hmmm....if I remember correctly, that one had a more intense prawn-flavoured broth but I won't commit until I've had a more recent tasting of that prawn mee to confirm that the quality is still as good as when I last tasted it.
Recently, my weekends were spent on hunting for prawn mee. Among the many prawn mee that I have tasted in the course of this search, I felt the one that I had at Restoran Xang Kee is worth recommending. This coffee shop is located in Taman Maluri, Cheras and some of the other popular food here include Western food and XO seafood noodle. In fact, the XO seafood noodle is a branch of Kepong’s.
My Personal Opinion There's no doubt that this place does indeed serve up a good plate of Hokkien mee. The Cantonese-style fried noodles weren't too bad either but could be better if the noodles had more charring to give it that in-depth smoky flavour.
Dried Meat Fried Rice (Small), 13.90 ringgit. The Dried Meat Fried Rice – delicious. The dried meat here is in reference to pork meat, the dried and sweetish kind? It makes for an excellent addition to a fried rice. The fried rice itself is cooked the usual ‘Chinese’ style, simple yet delicious. Add in bits of them sweet, chewy pork meat… yum!
Taste wise the dark and luscious Hokkien Mee (S) @ RM9.90 was excellent with a good amount of textures from the crunchy pork lards. It was incredibly tasty with an in-depth smoky and rich flavour, not just sweet or salty.
We have eaten at the Sheng Kee branch in MyTown Mall a few times and the food tastes fine but this time the food does not taste as good as before so I guess it will be our last time there. Sui Gao and Char Siew wanton mee in soup at MYR 17.90++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 20.76 nett).
If you are big fans on pork belly, be sure having Sheng Kee’s braised pork rice (梅菜扣肉饭) RM16.90 featuring steam rice topped with braised pork belly slices and Muy Choi (preserved cabbage). The braised sliced pork is succulent juicy while combined with a fragrant aroma of Muy Choi, tastes even more delicious if mixing them all together before starts digging in.
SK Signature Combination Noodles (Dry) - MYR 18.90++ (10% service charge and 6% GST making it MYR 22.05 nett). The combination food items are: BBQ pork (Char Siew), 3 Wantons and 2 Sui Kow dumplings. My friend did not like the gravy of this noodle - she says that the gravy tastes as if it has a budget version of sesame oil in it but the texture of the noodles is nice - soft yet springy. A small bowl of broth accompanies this dry noodle dish.
Pork Teppanyaki (MYR 29.80) As for the swine version slices of meats are decently fried till just nice and remained juicily succulent. I enjoy how it’s paired the peppery sides which have also been aromatically cooked.
One of my favourite is of course their Fish Paste MiXian. I am always in love with their mixian which comes slurpylicious good with the bouny fish paste. The broth is light and nice too.
Both pork tendon balls and the pork mushroom balls are flavourful but the mushroom taste has an edge over the tendon balls.
Quarter roast chicken at MYR 1.80 nett only. MYR 1.80 nett for quarter chicken on every 18th of the month.
The chicken wing is tasty with the smoky and sweet flavour, crispy skin with tender meat. Every single chicken wing is grilled to perfection. The size of the chicken wing is medium size and no regrets queuing up for Ah Wah Grill Wings at Restoran Queens Peel Road.
The place is kind of small and stuffy plus really packed with people during lunch hour.
Hill Street Coffee Shop is a chain of modern kopitiam from Singapore that recently entered the Malaysian market. Their first outlet can be found in MyTOWN Shopping Centre and offers a different kind of dining option in a special fire station environment. If you have been searching for good Singaporean food such as Laksa, Fried Prawn Noodle and ‘Bak Chor Mee’, Hill Street Coffee Shop is the place to go.
It was a decent bowl of pork noodles (soup version), not great, but certainly better than the curry noodles. However, it gets extra brownie points for the freshly fried garlic and pork lard crisps.
