That certainly makes for another incentive to pay Zhen Xin another visit. But you’ll have to get there early – Ben said they usually sell out quite quickly, sometimes by 11am. “They close by 1pm but it’s still pretty crazy hours. I guess it’s really tiring to be a hawker, ready at 4am. They just do it out of passion, getting the food to people.”
There are a few things I find hard to resist not ordering whenever I see them in hawker centres, even if I was super full as I was this morn...

The coffee was bitter, smooth and aromatic, and not overly milky. The Ya Kun-like toast was nicely crispy, and the kaya was really fragrant, eggy and coconuty. Good stuff, with a constant queue for a reason.
I wasn’t happy with the vegetable oil carrot cake at Teck Ghee Court Hawker Centre and the prawn mee at the opposite block failed to lift ...
I was all ready to blog about this particular char kway teow stall at 724 AMK Central Food Centre that I just patronized yesterday but decid...
This no-brand hokkien mee stall (which also offered carrot cake and fried oyster) was different; I was drawn to the aroma of just fried hokkien mee and decided there and then that I must have a plate! Hawker food might be affordable but it's easy to over-indulge!
One look and it already worked up my appetite! The noodles were in a darker shade without me even asking for extra sweet sauce and most importantly, it had a wet, saucy consistency. Oh la la, I can't wait to eat it!
Saving grace for the unhealthy souls was that the meat was tender! For me, I guess I would still prefer the pork satay from my usual stall at Chong Pang; Xu Zhong Xing. p.s. peanut gravy was pretty spicy!
Their traditional black carrot cake was very good, with just the right amount of wok hei, char, sweet sauce and egg distribution, making for a very evenly tasty, sweet and well-gelled plate. There was a liberal amount of chai poh, providing another layer of sweetness and an additional crunchy texture.
This is one of the newest stalls in this food centre manned by a mother and daughter team. They have been around for slightly more than a m...
I will most probably order the Grilled Chicken next time but will request to change the tomato penne to a cream penne or spaghetti instead.
A must-try, the Duck Noodle Soup ($4) at Ban Chuan was exceptional.
The wok hei was there, but there was a bit of the iron or cockle taste that I didn’t like so much. They were also very sparing in the use of sweet sauce. Not bad, but I won’t travel out there and queue for this.
Granted, the broth wasn't anything special, but I'd eat it again.
I just had lunch at Cheng San hawker centre and was exploring the neighborhood when I strolled past the roasted delight stall at Happy Hawke...

I really don't know how to appreciate white carrot cake. Yes, I do enjoy the chai po that came with it, love the smaller diced up pieces of radishes but black carrot cake is still the one I

The cheesesteak burger tasted quite good, with the beef tender, well marinated and tasty.
The Crab Meat Thai Crispy Omelette was light, airy and crispy like a tauhu telur with an aromatic eggy fragrance, topped with subtly sweet crab chunks and fried garlic crisps. Eating this felt like eating air, and the flavours were lifted by the sweet tangy Thai fish sauce.
Recommended by Miss Tam Chiak. The mee siam was slightly nutty, sour, almost light and citrusy, with slight thickness and some fragrance from the crispy tau pok shreds. Something different and bit atypical, with the flavour growing on you.
