Jikaya Ramen is one of few Japanese Restaurants in Penang that selling affordable yet delicious Japanese Food..The ramen here are made from scratch, even the broths here are cooked from raw. The owner of Jikaya, David believe that making every ingredients from fresh is the key for a bowl of good ramen.
The noodles were alright- pretty standard and not disappointing. The texture of the Udon was lovely, at least not over-cooked to a slouchy soft texture.
这里的日式烧烤也是必尝料理之一,尝试过的朋友都赞不绝口哦!
Yaki Ramen was an interesting variant to the usual soup Ramen, Jikaya's turned out to be on the salty side, we recommend adding Onsen Tamago, for the extra creaminess and perhaps, slightly cut through the saltiness. We

Here's the location.
The Kolo Mee is good.
I love the noodle used for this kolo mee.
Food here is good and their service is really fast too but i feel that their price is a little expensive. Environment is comfortable and nice.
Ippudo Pork Bun (RM 7.70), one of their signature snack and best seller across the world. Juicy braised pork belly with Ippudo's special sauce sandwiched between the soft mantau is addictive
The main highlight is obviously Roasted Turkey, which is served with sweet potatoes, chestnuts, vegetables, cranberry sauce and giblet gravy.
You may enjoy their theme buffet, the Grill, Rotisserie & Seafood Medley every Thursday and Friday (lunch 12pm - 3pm; dinner 6.30pm - 9.45pm) or Japanese and Seafood Galore themed Buffet every Saturday and Sunday (lunch 12pm - 3pm; dinner 6.30pm - 9.45pm). J-Garden is frequented by Japanese expatriates, a feat which speaks volumes about the authenticity of the yōshoku cuisine here!
Starting with some of J Garden's best sellers- the Tender Chicken Nanban is a dish not to be missed. It is definitely a dish that cannot be found else where... juicy, tender Chicken meat coated with airy batter being fried till perfection and topped with sweet-savory-sour, addictive caramelized Onion sauce. Good on its own or even better to enjoy with their creamy home-made Tartar sauce. While it is contenting to enjoy the dish alone, it is more tummy filling and palate-pleasing to make it a set (additional Rm 6)... with Japanese Rice, Miso Soup and various condiments.
J Garden serve some Japanese-fusion-Italian-Western kind of food, which i would say, J Garden mix things up themselves.
I enjoy my dinner here, though it is simple but it is nice .. !
Smoked Duck Poke – RM16.90, the rice was served with cherry tomatoes, seaweeds, cucumber, lettuces and topped with slices of smoked duck. The sauce for the main dish was either teriyaki or garlic mayo. The salad dressing was served in roasted sesame dressing. The smoked duck slices were juicy and packed with smoky flavor. For this combination I chose garlic mayo which tasted nice and very appetizing. The sesame dressing sauce for the salad was aromatic and delightful. The dietary of this meal is well-balanced and it is a great option for health-conscious people.
Person who likes a sweet end would be delighted to find the desserts here. The Pili Toast and Pala Toast are both topped with a rich layer of Matcha and Tiramisu respectively. Where as for the Strawberry croissant, the crisp pastry is stuffed with some sweet strawberries to give it a mild sweet taste.
We all know sashimi ain’t cheap and a lot of Japanese restaurants charge a hefty price for fresh salmon sashimi.
Kenko offers delivery service too! So you can definitely enjoy their delicious meals wherever you are.
As for the Matcha Latte, the creamy drink offers a satisfying level of matcha and sweetness.
这间 Komichi Tea House 小路茶坊 没有高挂的大招牌,门口处摆满了让人心旷神怡的绿色盆栽,一不留意还以为这是间民宅。
At Komichi Tea House, a new Japanese cafe tucked away at a quiet corner of Lorong Toh Aka, where Matcha is everywhere and everything. For the uninitiated, Matcha (or known as Japanese Green Tea) is making its name in the food and beverage scene worldwide in recent years; the flavor is more intense than Chinese Green Tea, with a bolder bitter end. Komichi is one specialist when it comes to Matcha, the entire cafe is Matcha-centric. One of the partners' father owns a Tea Farm in Japan and needless to say, the Japanese Green Tea is directly imported from there. The daughter who is know residing in Penang owns a cafe-dream and now, managed to turn the dream into reality. The menu is very Matcha-focused with an array of serious Matcha beverages and some Matcha-infused home-bakes. Nothing spectacular about the interior decor but rather, an unpretentious and earnest place to enjoy a good serving of Matcha delights.
Edo Ichi is kind of a luxury japanese restaurant. Though, i think they serve sorta bigger portion than Sakae Sushi and have better service.
It is so pack that we can’t get a table and have to sit at Sushi bar but better than waiting, the sushi bar is not small either it has great depth that enough to place a few plate so it still very comfort. Great environment with dim light and a big aquarium with sea water fish in it.
Next, we tried Edo Ichi’s Soft Shell Crab and Salmon Skin salad (RM18). This salad comes with a heavenly sesame dressing that left me wanting more! I love Asian style dressings so much more than regular mayo or Thousand Island.
Sushi Ya offers Sushi at RM1.90 and RM2.90. Due to the relatively low price, it's quite popular among residents in Jelutong. It was crowded during my visit. However, the sashimi they served are not really that fresh. You can see from the maguro sushi below. I guess this is a trade-off for the price. Well, if you're not into raw fish, this might be a good place for you to have economical sushi.
Lovers of Sushi, Maki and Nigiri might be glad to know or not that Sushi Ya has opened a new outlet in Penang island. The brand is well-established at Raja Uda and is known for its economical offering. Many budget eaters flocked the place when it was first opened; the new branch at Straits Garden, Jelutong is highly visible from the bustling Jelutong Street. But how economical is economical, you wondered? The items run on the Sushi Belt are priced either at Rm 1.90 (for pink plates) and Rm 2.90 (for red plates); while those on the menu are priced relatively lower than most Japanese restaurants in town. The trade off is of course the quality, which equates to the prices- cheap. Oddly, though the prices seem cheap, the final bill came to (4) us was slightly over Rm 150 (plus surcharges). There was no satisfaction at all; unless required, we do not see ourselves patronizing the place in the future.
[Pork-free] If you’re looking to take a break from street food in Penang, check out Shokudo Niban, which serves Japanese tapas.
Reasons to visit Shokudō Niban Hin Bus Depot: tasty street-style Japanese food that is immediately satisfying; fun setting; progressive concept where every staff member owns a piece of the pie.
We could not keep away from ordering the Chicken Karaage Bao Burger. The pillowy bao had a lovely combination – packed with juicy chicken karaage with airy crisp coating, salty punch of mentaiyaki and sharp flavors of home pickled kyuri. Accompanying chili paste provides a spicy kick to the bao however we recommend to enjoy simply on its own!
We enjoyed the Smoked Duck variant better than the other; we thought the combination was better. The extra touch of Japanese Furikake (Japanese Rice Sprinklers) added another layer of flavor to the dish. Apart from that, the flavor combo was quite straight forward
Another one of my favorite food here is the Homemade Chicken Luncheon Meat and Sausage.
The Nabe Udon was nicely executed with chewy, fat Udon topped with a runny Egg and Tempura Prawn. The broth was Shoyu-flavored but perfectly easy and clean on the palate.
Cempedak Cheesecake RM15.80 Not as rich as the one from Moody Cow, but not bad.
At Gudang Cafe, it wasn’t just the character of the cafe that distracted me. On my dinner and lunch visits, the service was good and the well thought-out dishes from the menu were made fresh and tasty.
Kai Curry Bar was established way back at the year 2015, and they have started operating since then at Jalan Phuah Hin Leong. During MCO, they moved their business back to their home base and now they have just re-open again a few doors down at Jalan Phuah Hin Leong too. Japanese Curry is one of the signatures of Kai Curry Bar. Having their recipe of curry ingredients, Kai Curry Bar mix and blend its curry paste. The portion of the meat is generous in size while the taste of the curry is still as good as the first day I tried it. Fika Kafi is also one of the partners with Kai Curry Bar which serve nice drinks and desserts. These 2 partners make a great combination.
The curry rice here may be great to satiate your craving for Japanese food but still missing a few keynotes to yield the wow factor.
I feel that the food here is decent and their service is good too
