Pretty good quality items and some selections which are not found sometimes in Singapore chains.
The best value for money dish was this plate of tempura prawns. Four medium sized prawns for $4.80 was an offer I could not refuse.
Comparing Sushiro to other conveyer belt restaurants at the same price range (Sushi Express, Genki Sushi, etc), Sushiro is much better in terms of quality and range.
This was the premium ebi soba premium Kurobuta loin and Iberico belly, Kuruma shrimp wonton, tiger prawn, sweet corn and spring onion. Premium, savoury and prawny tasting and viscous broth, with tender pork and fresh, springy and sweet prawn. Nice.
It is a bit difficult to make out in the photo since those two splotches on the chashu blur into the brown color of the broth, but the fig compote made it a little sweet, while the balsamic vinegar made it a little tangy.
So this was the crab ramen from Tsuta that I was mentioning last time. The broth was nicely savory and aromatic, and the sour cream was a nice touch, making it better than Hototogisu's version. But I still wouldn't get this next time I'm here; I'd rather go for one of his other bowls.
The patties were medium rare and lightly flavoured – moist, slightly sweet and textural with sweet onion and gristle inside. It was quite tasty, although it was a pity that the patties were lukewarm rather than warm.

The tempura rice bowl was a more interesting choice. Other than the replacement of the udon with rice, we thought that the prawns used for this dish were better than the former.
Overall, my dinner at Tampopo Grand was pleasant with the friendly and helpful staff as well as the delicious dishes served to us. Rather than a premium high end Japanese restaurant, I find that eating at Tampopo Grand has a comforting effect just like dining at your favourite family restaurant with pocket friendly prices and proper Japanese dishes
Orchard Plaza was really an interesting rabbit warren of various Japanese influenced private restaurants/izakayas. A bit atas (or high-class), a bit mysterious and underbelly-like (like Yuta’s blue box), but ultimately serving good and classy food, mostly with alcohol orders expected.
The Place Orchard Plaza is not a typical mall we do visit along Orchard Road and the one-month-old Yuta Japanese restaurant is one hidden gem. Located on level two of the mall, you cannot miss that…
Food at Ishinomaki Grill & Sake is classic Japanese cuisine, with a focus on sushi, sashimi, robatayaki, kushiyaki, and sake. Ingredients are fresh and premium, sourced primarily from Ishinomaki, as well as other parts of Japan, with the help of partners in Japan Fisheries Cooperatives (JF Zengyoren).
The lunch set is quite good value, and it is also a plus that there is no minimum spending for the private rooms. The ventilation is also pretty good where it does not get smoky during the meal. If you are looking for a cosy and intimate spot for dinner in Orchard Road, this is one restaurant to consider.
The Place Sushi and tempura sound like a perfect combination and Mizuki Japanese restaurant located on level five of Ngee Ann City has the best of both worlds. Opened since 2017 in Singapore, beyon…
KAI Yakitori is a place at Orchard Plaza that I could never get into. So I was delighted to find that they had expanded to a new shop one floor down called Homura (150 Orchard Road #03-18), which was easy enough to get seats online.
Their 10th Singapore outlet has the same spacious and neat layout as their other outlets in Singapore. Reservations can be done via their App. At the time of our visit near dinner time on a weekday, it was moderately busy. A short queue was observed forming up.
Nestled within Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Ngee Ann City, Hazuki (晴月) is a Japanese omakase restaurant which recently launched a new à la carte menu to complement its omakase tasting menu. The ala carte menu is served at the elegant Hazuki lounge which is known for their luxurious Gucci homeware and exquisite Kagami crystalware. Hazuki is helmed by classically trained Kyoto chef Kenta Yamauchi, formerly of Michelin-starred Gion Fukushi in Kyoto.
A no-frills Omakase option hidden in Orchard Plaza where lunch starts from an affordable S$80.
