On a personal Burnt Cheese Cake (RM 16) is dessert that we found it to be special. We were told it was a housemade, and the definition burnt introduced a slight pleasant caramelized taste into the rich and dense cheese cake. A piece of wonder to enjoy. It is noted half of the cake was grabbed by customers when it is being put on selling tray.

Order South China Sea as it seems crowds favorite @ RM 36. Serve with 63 degree poached egg, housemade hash and salsa. Quite a huge chunk of salmon that is serve, looks great in the picture. It is under season, quite pale in flavour and overcook too. Mix of salsa is a bit confusing, filled with apple, capsicum and the fried hash that looks like being fried in a long serving oil that gives such colour and quite at the base plate. I try to finish my salmon, and I guess I gave up along the way. Turns out to be quite disappointing.

I'd like to say that my first dining experience at Nam Heong has been a positive one...though their famed Ipoh White Coffee (or black coffee) was a miss for me. I suppose if you're looking for hawker classics in a clean mall environment (and willing to pay mainstream mall prices), this could be a possibility! ^_~ Since what I tried was just a tiny fraction of what they offer, I wanted to return to try more...and I did....but my second outing left much to be desired. You see, I had seen quite a few dishes (on other blogs) that I wanted to try (like poached baby octopus, fried mantou with curry pork, mini assam laksa, etc.) that were available in Starling but was told they've just started (in Pavilion) and didn't have them on the menu yet. So I returned (more than 3 months later) one dinner night hoping that I may be able to savour these and more but couldn't find them on the menu. Not only that but we found some other dishes that we wanted to try (that were listed on their paper menu coz we were given a copy) not listed on their iPad menu (one such dish was the signature dry assam curry noodles which I wanted to try). There were also many dishes listed on the iPad as Sold Out (and some of them were their signature dishes). How can a restaurant run out of their signature dishes...at prime dinner time (7.30pm) on a weekend? I decided to ask a server and was told that whatever I can't find on the iPad means they don't have it anymore (I don't know if that meant just that evening or no longer on the menu for good...even something as simple as char siew rice)! @_@ In the end, we got up and left. This is certainly not the impression I have of how Nam Heong runs its business (unless it was just this outlet only). I doubt I'll return to a place where I have to second-guess what will or will not be on the menu or what I can or cannot have on any given day! :P

For patrons who craves for the endless varieties of good food Ipoh has to offer and yes, hor fun, toast bread & Kopi — is definitely top on the list. Established in 1958, this is where the tastes of traditional Ipoh fare live on, says Nam Heong. From Ipoh to KL, Nam Heong evolves with the test of time by introducing the use of technology to elevate the dining experience, hence earning its position as one of the most iconic brands in Ipoh’s rich culinary scene. No doubt on that.

Perhaps if you fancy something more yummy and not ‘biasa’, then you would be better off ordering items from their normal menu and not the Breakfast Set. Feel me? On the other hand, Baby D's favorite was the Duck Spaghetti (RM28) with confit tomato and quinoa. Of course this ain't no ordinary pasta - the duck is braised with spices and wood ear fungus. It tastes just like the braised Hakka pork dish, only this is made with duck since the restaurant is pork-free. The quinoa gives extra texture to the dish and the tomatoes are slowly cooked with assam boi (and the result is amazing, a mini umami bomb).

Chicken @ RM 45, add on with bentong ginger and lotus crips. As for this dish, I have no idea what to say as for us being local, we had too much street food and I felt that I am just eating “atas” Hainanese Chicken. not much twist of it. Too normal for my liking even knowing the meat is sous vide.

3 tiny hoppers, 2 cocktails came up to RM126. Not even kidding you, these aren't fancy food that's worth RM126. Without the cocktail it would be fairly more reasonable. Will I return again? Perhaps yes - but I'll be more careful with the choices, no more peppered goat and cocktails. Honestly, it is very difficult to for us to have the urge to return if us consumers don't feel the value we are paying for. Set Meal: BBQ Pork + Roast Chicken + Vegetables (Bean Sprouts), 14.90 ringgit. This was your usual chicken rice, or rather chicken + pork rice, lol. I guess for a dish that cost 14.90, whatever served on the plate should be more than enough, especially when it comes with vegetables and soup on the side but 4,5 thinly sliced pork meat and 4,5 pieces of roasted chicken did not do it for me. I barely even had the time to decide whether it was good or not before it all disappeared into my tummy. I guess that explains why every table had a big plate of meat on its own because the set simple does not offer enough. As for how it tasted, the chicken rice tasted okay. For me, nothing beats the chicken/pork rice at Meng Kee ( Meng Kee Char Siew @ Shah Alam – One of the Best Char Siew Rice I’ve Tasted. ) There is nothing much I can say to describe chicken rice, lol or how different it is from one and another because they all almost taste similar but yea, the ones at Meng Kee Shah Alam is the bomb. Since I am one of those who eats chicken rice once in a blue moon, when I do get do get down to eating it – I want something really good and for me, good is at Meng Kee, till I discover another restaurant that serves awesome chicken rice.

Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken and Sotong Sambal (RM11) Two of the better side dish here are the Sambal Sotong and Fried chicken. The fried chicken had a wonderful smell, moist and tender on the inside. The Sambal Sotong on the other hand is cooked to the right tenderness. The sotong sizes were quite big and the sambal here was quite spicy. Nasi Lemak Wanjo don’t skimp out on the portion of Sotong and the sizes of each sotong was quite big compared to other nasi lemak eateries.

Verdict: I never taste the local Kelantanese food but my meal at Warung Soho was rather satisfying and the affordable price certainly one of the factor I’ll make a revisit.

Nasi Kak Wok / Nasi Mmanggey is without a doubt one of the best things I have tried so far this year. So when a reader named Wan Rohani Wan Hussin suggested that I try something similar at Warung Soho, we went there immediately on the same day itself. Long story short: it was a satisfying Kelantanese meal which we enjoyed thoroughly. But just so you know, Warung Soho went viral early this year so you might, *just might* encounter queues. Since we dropped by in the afternoon during the fasting month, there were only a handful of customers and most of them were taking away for later consumption.

I wouldn’t know if they taste good or not, but for the Milo Chicken Chop I can say it is good – in a weird way. Because the chicken chop itself is already spicy, it kind of evens out the sweetness of the Milo. Plus, if you dip it in their extra spicy sambal belacan, it tastes even better.

A visit to Cheese Banjir wouldn’t be complete without trying their famous Lamb Grill The Hulk Cheese Banjir (RM40). The Lamb was surprisingly quite thick and tender, and the meat’s seasoning hit the spot nicely – good enough to be eaten on its own. However the overflowing of cheese sauce certainly helped enhance this dish.

Those of you in Mid Valley, Meet Chuck Two Sons which is a new establishment from the folks who bring you classic recipe at Sri Melaka. First of all, to clarify that they are not Two Sons Bistro at Publika (which I thought they are). An outlet that sits at the far end corner that makes them a hidden gem at Mid Valley or located next to Brotzeit that brings you good food from the Northen region. Their cooking method brings me a good childhood memory taste as it is very much similiar to my grandma kampung cooking style.

Thumbs up to the Nasi Goreng Kampung Muar With Ayam Goreng Berempah. The Johor's version of Nasi Goreng was a bomb, not oily but full of Wok-Hei. I can taste the various kind of spices and salty ikan bilis (anchovies) coating each grain of the rice. Quite a filling dish that comes with ayam goreng berempah, fried egg, fish crackers and housemade sambal on the side.

I had ABC (Mixed shaved ice dessert) only for lunch at MYR 8.50++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 9.86 nett). I find it delicious because I like the taste of the red rose syrup, vanilla ice cream and all the ingredients such as longan, corn, red beans, peanuts put together. They are also very smart to serve the coconut syrup separately in a small jug without me having to request them to do so. This way, I could adjust the sweetness to my preference. The coconut syrup tastes very strongly of coconut - just like those coconut candy wrapped in colourful transparent foil that we used to eat when young - which my friend does not like because she does not like the taste of coconut.

Chicken Satay (a dozen/12 pieces), 26.90 ringgit. The satay was pretty good and it came with two options – beef and chicken, I ordered the latter. The satay was yummy mostly because of the peanut sauce. I like eating the chicken bits on its own before dunking it into the peanut sauce because I usually find it being glazed with a thin layer of sweet sticky flavorful gravy but that was not the case here. Here, the chicken on its own does not come with additional flavor, just plain ol roast chicken? but when you dunk it into the peanut sauce – then it becomes da bomb! A lil sweet, a lil crunchy, a lil chewy and plenty of flavor. Yummy!

A zesty green interior instantly greets you the moment you stepped into the premises, ultimately serving the best culinary heritage from Ipoh. And immediately chicken rice and pulpy bean sprouts come into mind at just the mere mention of it. Retrospectively, this place has more to offer it seems other than just these 2 iconic delicacies, namely the famous Ipoh Yong Tau Foo, Ipoh Bean Sprouts, Chicken Rice, Ipoh Noodle Soup and many more. Not forgetting those homey desserts such as Red Bean Ice, Sweet Corn Drinks and Fu Chuk Barley, which coloured most of our childhood times- those of Generation X and Y will surely fathom it (=

Their Sambal Fish was so delicious. It was truly one of the best that I have tasted. Been so long that I had food this good. Truly miss these places as it has been so long. The fish was slightly on the spicy side and came with some thick gravy. 10/10 is my rating for this. Similarly, their Fish Roe was another one that won my heart. Absolutely delicious stuff and I would rate it at 9/10.

Verdict? Never go to Kudu during Ramadhan month. The chicken is extremely hard - presumably from reheating the food due to low demand during Ramadhan month. Oh the chicken is rock hard I assure you can kill someone by throwing at them. The okra is clearly undercooked it wouldn't break apart when you bite it! Another colleague ordered the chicken drumstick, it is so small like which is as big as the Eclipse mint box! So pathetic.
