It has been unbearably hot here lately and the cold and refreshing pomelo salad (RM8.00)…that we had was definitely a welcome relief.

This time around, I tried the supreme prawn noodles (RM13.80)…and I had that with hor fun…It certainly looked a whole lot nicer in their promotional photograph and at best, I thought it was all right – I just did not like the sambal. It reminded me of those canned ones that I simply do not enjoy.

I ordered their Nam Heong chicken hor fun (RM11.50)…which turned out tasting different from what I had at Old Town or Pappa Rich – it did not have that hint of sweetness in the soup but yes, I thought it was good and I enjoyed it.

The nasi kerabu lamb chop (RM15.90)…sounded interesting so I decided to order that to try. They do have daging bakar with their nasi kerabu here but I have never ordered that there, only their ayam percik or fish, depending on the day of the week but these days, they have it only on Saturdays. To give credit where credit is due, the lamb…was very very nice, so nice that I only ate a few of the pieces and gave the rest to my girl to enjoy – she loves lamb as much as she loves her potatoes. Other than that, it was nothing like nasi kerabu

I’ve always loved the kway teow th’ng in Penang and elsewhere so I asked for the kway teow soup and steamed chicken (RM15.00)…and yes, I sure enjoyed the noodles in the clear, refreshing soup…and I’ve had steamed chicken at a lot of places here but for reasons unknown, I thought the one here…was a cut above the rest and I did like it a lot.

I ordered the kampua mee, white (RM3.50)…which was all right, very old school, very authentic, very original. I thought it was a little on the dry side so probably a bit more oil would be good.

Pelangi Foodkiosk Kampung Nangka Restaurant

There was one where two very young girls were selling some kuihs and what not and I thought these, wrapped in banana leaves, looked really good so I bought a pack of 5 (RM2.00)……and indeed, they were very nice. The skin was soft, not tough and rubbery…unlike some that would make you feel like choking when you try to chew and swallow them.

Nasi Kak Wok Restaurant

Once again, it failed to win me over, not when it was just plain rice drowned with some gulai (curry) gravy that was a little sweet, I thought and the fried chicken was just fried chicken, no more no less…all breast! At best, I would say it was all right but given a choice, I would rather go for something else.

Azzuna Kitchen Restaurant

He suggested the mee racun Azzuna, kambing (RM12.00). I did not tell them this but though I enjoyed it very much, I did feel it was a bit too pricey. Yes, the lamb was so very nice – it was something like lamb stew, the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and the gravy was like what one would find in a stew except that it was spicy so they probably had lots of chilies and dunno-what-else in it. However, considering that that was quite a lot of meat, what they could have done was to give just one slab of it instead of two…with the noodles or rice with slices of cucumber or tomato or lettuce by the side and charge a more affordable RM6.50 or RM7.00 for that

Their kurma…is one of our all-time favourites so of course, I asked for that as well and also their ayam masak kicap – chicken in soy sauce but the Malay ones are different because of the spices added so theirs would be a lot more fragrant than what some are probably more used to.
