Curry Mee + Drink, 14.50 ringgit. It was yummy! The broth was spicy and milky but not overwhelmingly thick to an extent that it fills you up quick. I did enjoy sipping on that broth, slurp slurp slurp! The noodles, I opted for Mee, mee hoon mix, which was the perfect combination here. There were plenty of chicken slices and green beans. If you fancy ‘kerang’, cockles – go for it, I decided to go without it. The fried dumplings, brinjals were awesome. Leaving them to soak for a bit in the broth provided it with an amazing flavor, all wet and dense, flavorful on the outside and chewy on the inside, lovely. The dish came with a generous amount of pork skin, it sure was soft and succulent. Overall, I enjoyed this dish.

If you know someone who grew up in Kepong in the 80s, ask them if they know about Ah Yee Curry Mee. Chances are they have been eating her food since young. From what I was told, Ah Yee Curry Mee had a humble beginning as an economy noodle and chee cheong fun stall. Yong tau fu and other noodles were only added as part of her offerings in the later years.

This is how a proper Mee Pok (RM8.50) should look like. It should be dry, the noodle should be springy and there should be a balanced amount of minced meat and lard to go around. But what really makes the noodle is the chili sauce which adds an appetizing kick to the overall experience. Without the chili sauce, the mee pok wouldn’t be complete.

Each bowl of noodles is affordably priced at MYR 1.99 and comes decently with dried ‘wantan’ skin, meatball or chicken slices, depending on your chosen menu. You could always mix and match the type of noodle and soup base that your prefer.

Verdict: This meal didn’t quite live up to my expectation, it wasn’t among some of the better tasting Hikkien Mee I’ve eaten before. I’m not sure if I will come back again as there are a few better options at Kepong and Damansara Uptown area (Do you know which I referred to, hehe :P)

A stir fried of their own style, fried till the sauce is slight caramelize onto the noodle, slightly chewy texture like al dante of spaghetti. Pork slices are not overcooked yet just nice. Best to add on their homemade chili to and in some fragrant and very mild heat into it.

Nothing much has changed and the friendly and approachable cook still fries his signature Hokkien Mee on a charcoal stove. The stock which he uses in his noodles is prepared with chicken bones, pork bones and prawn shells to give it a naturally sweet flavor.
