Admittedly, I frequent Johore Bahru quite often. And it came as a surprise when I told some friends and colleagues I was thinking of going to this seafood restaurant known as Todak, and many were aware of this place for the longest time!
After this, we went to Restoran Todak (Orang Asli) to have our dinner
Sambil duduk sambil lihat pemandngan laut. Seberang sana tu Singapura. Kalau waktu petang, kalau nasib korang baik, akan dapat lihat matahari terbenam, sangat cantik!.

餐馆里看得出有许多来自新加坡的食客，而且这餐馆的收费也没有因为靠近新加坡的关系而乱飙价，实属难得，所以推荐大家不妨试一试。 Obviously there were many patrons from Singapore, but San Low Seafood for my own experience is charge reasonably despite its proximity to the custom. So recommend fellow friends to try out :)
Tried the famed San Low Bee Hoon, along with black pepper chicken, beancurd with minced meat, and sweet potato leaves with fermented beancurd (RM75.65 for 4 pax, including drinks). Gotta say the food was really just so-so… 😡

As the name says it, their speciality is fresh steam fish. We know that if the fish is not fresh, it can’t be steamed. Usually, we only deep fry fish that are not fresh. The place was crowded as usual.
Situated near to the coast, Sungai Rengit is a popular seafood haven for the locals and Singaporean. During our trip to Desaru, we took a 30 minutes' drive from Desaru Coast to Sungai Rengit to try it for ourselves. Among all the restaurants, we decided to visit Super Lobster because of its high review and we were not surprised to find many Singaporean there.

Five dishes for five pax only costed us RM139 which I am quite sure that you will hardly get the same price in other seafood restaurants in Johor Bahru. However, the dishes here are just for satisfaction of craving and we actually felt the quality of food is sliding down, comparing to few years back. If you are looking for quality and fine seafood cuisine, Restoran Asli may not be the right destination.

Taste has always been subjective, especially in Singapore where food is highly contentious; Joyce labelled this as the best and i can understand why; full of oysters, super eggy, had charred bits on the edges with the occasional sweet bites of diced up preserved turnip.
Even though the restaurant is located by the seaside, the food is not cheap at all. Nevertheless, I have no complain about the food. Above all, the food is halal and can be consumed by Muslim. But the only thing I enjoy while dining here is the scenic tranquil rural setting by the seaside that I cant find in KL:)

Salted Egg Crab is fresh and wonderful. Perhaps a little too heavy at the end as we ate two 1kg crabs. But was it fresh and sweet!

Here, Gerai Ayong's grilled stingray is a star. The stingray was fresh. Expertly grilled, its flesh was soft and wet with briny sweet natural juices. The sambal chili sauce was robustly savoury spicy yet it did not overpower the fish's natural flavours. The sourish spicy sweet onion chili pickle added zesty zing and juicy crunch to the savoury spicy dish.
Hehe! Kami solat Maghrib dekat-dekat je dengan kawasan food court tu then kami terus ke gerai makan dekat food court Gerai Tepian Tebrau. Ramai gila orang. Sampai ada yang berdiri tunggu nak seat. Mujur kami sampai awal sikit dari dorang. Kami makan dekat Gerai Ayong. Tauhu bakar dia memang sedap.
Setiap kali balik ke JB, FL akan singgah makan kat gerai Ayong. Antara menu top kat gerai Ayong ni ialah ikan bakar, sotong bakar, cakuih bakar, sotong kangkung, ais jelly dan kelapa laut. Dulu Ayong ni ada jual kerang bakar jugak. Tapi menu kerang bakar dia dihentikan sebab mak dia suruh. Boleh macam tu? Ayong meniaga kat gerai ni dibantu abang dia. Muka diorang ni lebih kurang aje. Sekali pandang mcm watak Lego pun ye jugak.
Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner here at Desaru Seafood Corner. The seafood was cooked to perfection to highlight their freshness. We thought all of the dishes we ordered were stellar.
I like the seafood and mushroom soup because of it's gentle savoury sweet flavour.
For diners’ convenience, they can just pick the Seafood Platter (RM38.90) which comprises prawns, clams, baby octopus and sliced abalone.
I would say price is a bit steep for locals but reasonable though given the freshness and tastiness of the ingredients used and presented.
The place was bustling and filled with locals. The food was decent and had its hits and misses.
