This is arguably one of the best Char Kway Teow and it's really a classic. The uncle has been plying his trade for decades with more of the time being a one-man show. I won't say it's the best but it's definitely one of the better ones in this trade.
The fact that Uncle fries every single plate and packet on their own, the consistency is a little different plate to plate and packet to packet. The basic wok hei ( heat of the wok) is definitely still good in the noodles giving it a nice charred aroma.
The uncle was methodical, frying each plate one by one. His stall was really clean and neat too. But the queue seemed to have grown from when I remembered it. I think I waited for 30 to 40 minutes.
Been heading back ever since. Make sure you order the dishes and have them all served on a single plate, rather than separate them. Curry rice is always best enjoyed when it gets a little messy.
This Hainanese curry rice is worth queueing for.
On the whole, this is a rather satisfying plate of curry rice. I do enjoy what I had although I wish that the curry could be spicier to have more kick.
Although we finally get to it here, we did not have enough stomach for other items on the menu. I will like to try out more of their recommended dishes on the menu. Let's make a return trip soon!
Makko Teck Neo is definitely a hidden gem located in a sleepy old neighbourhood.
Overall, we are glad that Makko Teck Neo Metropolis has opened. A good Peranakan restaurant is always welcome in the Buona Vista / Ghim Moh neighbourhood.
Also, I like my Laksa fiery spicy but, despite adding the sambal chilli provided, I still find the spiciness too mild for me.
Depot Road claypot laksa is nice as it has its own unique style and sweet tasting profile. It's a mild, friendly laksa, especially good for introducing the dish to the uninitiated. I would have it again, if I am in the area.
I liked it so much that I nearly went back for a second bowl before realizing that that would be too much coconut milk in one day.
All in all, I will recommend this place for western food lovers for its pocket-friendly and value-for-money portion.
I was full of anticipation for their Chicken Chop after reading many raving reviews about them online.
Jiakpalang Eating House is an up-and-coming casual restaurant along Alexandra Road that offers local Zi Char dishes with a twist.
Overall, I think that Jiakpalang is promising, but it needs some fine tuning here and there, especially in terms of its identity and the naming of some of the dishes.
What else can I say apart from visit and be wowed? Chef tasting menus are available by the counter and I am dying for a return!
This stall at the Happy Hawkers kopitiam has gotten some attention online lately, but I'm not entirely sure why (18 Jalan Membina).
Better yet, get the best of both worlds – the loaded, lemak laksa for an indulgent treat, chased by a palate cleanser of traditional Teochew mee tai mak soup. After all, bak chor mee is how Lau Jiang first made their name more than fifty years ago.

Hor fun is the main course, with the option of beef, seafood, and fish. Other zi char style dishes like mui fan, ginger, and spring onion sliced fish and beef rice.
I ordered my favorite avocado shake from Mr Avocado Exotic Fruit Juice to go along with it.
For the price that we are paying, this Hainanese Scissors Curry Rice is competitive and worth the amount paid. Even though its from a Hawker, the way that they rendered the service was above average.
The curry with braising sauce was really gooey and sweet, and improved the flavour of everything on the dish. The breaded pork chop was freshly fried, and it was well-flavoured, peppery and crisp like a biscuit, given its thinness (although you could still taste the meat within).
Fatty Aunt's noteworthy for its boggling array of fried stuffed ingredients
I visited during off-peak hours but I reckon that diners have to sit shoulder to shoulder at this establishment during lunch time.
Having tried their bak chor mee and bean sauce noodles, I will definitely bring my parents back to try their other YTF pieces, as well as their laksa!
Overall, Scissors Cut Curry Rice is definitely one of the better Hainan Curry rice I have eaten with their gravy being the highlight. If you do have their rice at one of the coffee shops, I do believe the serving size is slightly more generous compared to the one at the mall
The duck here has quite a nice tender texture which does not taste dry or have the gamey smell.
Seah Im Food Centre is opposite Habourfront Centre and the nearest MRT Station is Habourfront. Just follow the signs to Exit A and walk about 2 minutes to the food centre.
Nonetheless, the dishes are pocket friendly and decent. The hawkers who are managing the stalls are friendly and welcoming too.
what makes this hokkien mee so special that people are willing to queue for a taste of it? You’re about to find out…
With more than 30 items on the menu, you will definitely be spoilt for choice.
The price wise is reasonable given the portion served and you have a nice dining spot in the mall.
The restaurant was quite busy but service was prompt. We were impressed by the responsiveness and helpful attitude of the staff.
