Besides experience haggle shopping at the market, the street itself is fairly charming with many old shops. You can sample some street food, street arts, visit cafes and temples.
Some of my closest friends decided to play tourists in KL Chinatown during the recent holidays and well… as to be expected or is it a surprise, almost all of them (we are all staying in Klang Valley – KL and Selangor) confessed to not being here in ages…
A small photo spot. Fairly interesting if you enjoy posing with the props and deco to capture a few photos.

The highlight for us from our trip was these crab-filled mantous, available steamed or deep fried. We got the deep fried ones for RM5 per pop. They were not greasy at all, and the frying gave the bread a crispy texture, while the inside remained soft and fluffy. The filling was generous and flavourful – it reminded me of Singapore chilli crab. So if there’s one thing you have to get at the Pasar Malam OUG, I recommend these!
Well, I am truely impress with the amount of food stalls that OUG pasar Malam have to offer and there are much more. Will come back again for another round before hitting to Taman Connought next round.
Pasar Malam (Night Market) Taman Connaught is one of the longest night markets in Kuala Lumpur. It is located in Cheras which is about 30 mins from the KL city centre. Taman Connaught Night Market claims to have about 700 stalls and stretched over 2km. The night market opens on Wednesdays from 5.30pm in the evening and peaks around 7.00-9.00pm.
Apam balik – crispy peanut and corn-filled pastries. You have to eat these on the street as the thin pastry crumbles all over!
Savoury sago cakes - MYR2.80 nett for 1 pack with 2 cakes in it. There are two types for me to select - 1. chye poh (perserved vege) with dried shrimps (hay bee) and 2. Spicy sambal and I bought one pack each. This is the one with chye poh (perserved vege) with dried shrimps (hay bee). The taste is perfect. My siblings like it and praise that it is very well-made.
His 'Far Sang Wu' 花生糊 is a creamy and super smooth velvety texture with amazingly rich roasted peanut flavour. While I like my peanut paste creamy and smooth, I don’t like overly thick ones that somewhat stick to the throat when you swallow it so his version of the dessert is a slightly watered-down one.
A fan of wet markets, I was most eager to explore the Dato’ Keramat Wet Market when I realized its close proximity to the Dato’ Keramat LRT. This wet market happens to be one of the oldest Malay markets in the Klang Valley and though there had been efforts to shift them to the nearby Keramat Mall, the proprietors have stayed put. Serving the Kampung Datuk Keramat as well as enclosed areas, the market is fantastic for good variety of cheap, local cooking ingredients. Imported greens such as broccoli and asparagus were rare, but every vegetable stall would have an array of over 10 types of ulam (raw herbs and greens). The poultry, beef and seafood displayed were fresh too.
Among the dozens of food stalls in the night market, the one that sells pandan apam balik is the most eye-catching. The apam balik sold at this stall is the thick and chewy kind but with a twist. Besides adding an extra layer of pandan flavored batter into the pancake, the uncle also coats it with black and white sesame.
Freshly cut fruits coated with delicious lip-smacking sauce and then topped with crispy crackers, MINDBLOWING!! If you happen to be in Pasar Pagi Sungai Way, don’t forgot to give it a try. Fruit Rojak @ RM 6
