Verdict: 1. Great place to enjoy traditional street dishes such as Phở, Bánh Mì, Bánh Cuốn, Vietnamese Coffee, and Desserts, all under one roof. 2. Taste and portion wise, we have no complaints at all. But ambiance wise, it can be quite noisy sometimes. 3. Recommended: Vietnamese Prawn Salad, Famous Vietnamese Baguette

I was happy to see pho (beef noodle soup - RM17.90) on the menu, as I have been craving for it for a while. The pho soup is made by boiling imported Australian beef with various spices and then topped with rice noodles, beansprouts, fresh herbs, red chillies, thinly sliced beef and beef balls. Squeeze some lime over and enjoy! I definitely enjoyed this - the soup was clear yet very flavorful and comforting. Absolutely pho-bulous!

Next on, I was coaxed to try the Fried Ikan Basung. It was fried to a nice crunch and was crispy right to the bone. You can eat the fish head which has a nice crunchy texture. The dish is also served with a special sambal sauce that you can dip with but I love the natural taste of the fish with the crunchy feel.

If you can only try one noodle, get the Tuaran Mee Goreng. I’d also suggest that you order a drier version because it’s a tad moist as it is. What makes it worthwhile is the noodle itself which is known for its springy texture and eggy aroma. It can only be found in Sabah and had to be air-flown all the way here. And contrary to its name, it’s not exactly ‘goreng-ed’ as in stir fried. The noodle is actually simmered in sauce to let the flavors develop.

As the name suggests, Pho King’s signature items are of course their pho – Vietnamese rice noodles in beef, pork or chicken broth. Only quality Australian beef and Sambanto pork are used in Pho King. The broth for the noodles is boiled for hours to extract the sweetness from the bones and meat, resulting in a rich soup that’s robustly infused with everything good. I drank every drop of it!

Pho (between RM10.90 to RM21.90) is the main reason to eat at Pho King, as it’s probably the best in the neighborhood – maybe even in all of PJ. What makes it stand out is the quality of the meat and labor that go into preparing the delicious broth. Every bowl is topped with generous slices of Australian beef, cooked to your liking but medium rare is recommended for the best experience.

Likes: Authentic and cheap Vietnamese food - possibly one of the best I've had so far in Klang Valley. Those who thinks Pho Vietz is good should try this first. Pho Vietz is no where near authentic! Dislikes: They tend to "forget" some ingredients. For eg, my favourite tendon was not added into the mixed noodle bowl on our second visit. My Personal Opinion From the few things we tried, I'd say the Vietnamese offerings here are below average tasting. The pho was pretty phogettable (unless you like subtle tasting broth). The crispy fried pork rolls were the only decent thing here but they weren't unphogettable either (ok, enough with the pun already)...kikiki! ;D Don't be deceived by the photos, the dishes don't look remotely like what you see in the menu. I can absolutely guarantee we won't be coming back....and you can take that to the bank! :P

Overall, the taste is absolutely unquestionably good. However, after you are looking at the price tag, you will feel it is not worth it at all. It is double the price compare with the price they are selling at Vietnam. Vietnamese cuisine is a peasant cuisine but it has been commercialized into an overpriced cuisine. They should continue to make this cuisine affordable so it won't lose the real value of it.

Dried Pork Noodles at MYR 15.90++ (MYR 18.45 nett after 10% service charge and 6% SST). The noodles are those narrow translucent and springy kway teow/hor fun. There are two quail eggs and fresh prawns which I like. Bun Heo Hue (With Pork) (RM 12.90) A must to try here is of course is the bun. It is indeed something unique compared to others. This will definitely spice up your life as most of their dishes are pretty mild but The Bun Bo Hue is indeed a great one. Enjoy the pho with the rich taste and full of bold flavours. The secret to this heavy bitter is the deep rich pork consommé married with lemongrass and it is slow cooked with onions and lots of spicy chilly too. If you love spicy, assured yourself with this and you will never go wrong.

This is what we came for - the Banh Mi Thit Heo (RM8.80) - banh mi filled with grilled pork, coriander, pickled carrots and radish, and cucumber. The baguette was great - nice and crusty on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. The bread dough is made from scratch every morning using traditional Vietnamese techniques and ingredients. They were also generous with the grilled pork, tender with a sweetish glaze. It would be more satisfying though if this banh mi also came with egg (they have an option to add on egg, so we will do that next time). Overall it was a good banh mi and I spy a lot of other variety on their menu.

I went for the Medium Rare Sliced Beef & Tendon Pho (RM18.90), with an add-on of firm, juicy beef balls (RM4). I like how the beef is now served rare, so it cooks ever so slightly when you dunk it in the soup for the perfect doneness. Moo had the Lemongrass Chicken Chop Rice, which came with a small side of salad and pickled vegetables. Portions were generous: a huge mound or rice with a thick slab of chicken thigh. The chicken tasted fresh and was tender and juicy, but sadly, it was overpowered by the sweetness of the lemongrass sauce and became quite cloying to eat after the first few bites.
