Food writing is an on-going learning journey. A visit to Anne Elizabeth, a deli-style restaurant owned by husband and wife team, Jacob Fong and Sandra Lee, proved enlightening as I grappled with unfamiliar meat cuts like abanico and picanha.
Next to arrive was the Australian marbled ribeye (RM78), which was perfectly cooked to medium doneness as requested. We chose this as the marbling looked incredible on the meat in its raw state, and it certainly did not disappoint in terms of taste too... super tender and juicy! Served with two types of sauce and mustard.
We had, not one but two pieces of Iberico Abanico (RM39.80 per piece). Each piece is about 250gm. Grilled to 70% doneness, Jacob assured us that this is very safe for consumption since it is Iberico. The texture of the Abanico is amazing, utterly tender, juicy and has a beautiful bouncy bite. Due to the marbling, the flavour component is also deliciously tasty. Served with the three-standard mustard, dark caramelized roasted gravy and pepper cream, this cut of Iberico is further accentuated in terms of flavours. Absolutely worth a try if you have not had this before…
If you are going for their spicy ma lat steamboat, it is recommended to have them with the Fried Dough Stick , Bean Curd Sheets as well as the Luncheon Meat where it really goes well and addictive too
Verdict: The soup base is the essence of any good steamboat however both of the soup we tried didn’t manage to impress us. It would be hard to be convinced for a revisit anytime soon as I can find better options at my area – Kepong.
Penang Dry Kuay Teow, 8.50 ringgit. I most probably would not order this dish again. It basically was a kechupy noodle with slices of steamed chicken and some salad greens. Yup. I think I ordered the wrong dish thinking it was actually fried kuay teow. That was my bad, should have known better but I was in la la land. I saw another table ordering the curry mee – which looked and smelled awesome and they looked like regulars. So, I guess some dishes here are good and some are not.
The core product is Penang Prawn Mee. ALK also giving you a special White Coffee direct from the established Ipoh's Brand Chang Jiang White Coffee.Got to Try OHH !!!
The place is obviously popular judging from the brisk business they were doing. A possible destination for a decent bowl of prawn mee although it won't be my regular haunt since I wasn't too thrilled about the price for the quality and quantity of prawns I got.
I didn't have to wait long for my beef bulgogi (RM25.90) to arrive. The bulgogi was served on a sizzling hot plate and comes with rice, seaweed soup and three types of ban chan (side dishes). The ban chan are refillable and our visit it was kimchi, beansprouts and burdock root. The kimchi was a little too mature for me (very sour), the kind I usually use when I'm making kimchi jjigae. The bulgogi was a good portion, with slices of tender, flavourful meat along with glass noodles, onion and carrots.
Overall was average but is a buffet, so don't expect much on the quality of meat and taste ah!
Stone BBQ is one of the best all-you-can-eat Korean deals in Klang Valley!
At Sushi Mentai, authentic Japanese food is no longer an experience reserved just for the privileged – the restaurant serves superior ingredients and condiments mostly imported from Japan to treat one to a gastronomical fare.
Chicken MaryLand RM 23.00. Deep fried golden chicken chop with tendery meat inside and crunchy skin outer layer served with french fries and salad
We went to try the Thai Fish Burger (Green Curry Sauce) set (MYR15.99 nett). We also bought another set meal which is double fish o fillet (MYR13 nett).
Services wise here is really slow, I even tempted to go refill myself on the side dishes and I was stopped by them LOL.
One of the key selling points of Burgerlari burgers is in its choice of ingredients used; which is of premium quality. According to Justine; only the best chicken parts are used to make the burger patty ensuring moist and tender meat texture.
My TOP PICK of the day 'BUTTER CHICKEN BURGER' ~ Burger-licious deep fried in batter, a juicy and thick chicken patty drenched in sweet-savoury butter sauce sandwiched between the soft charcoal bun!
Burgerlari are also proud of their chicken patty which only strictly make from thigh meat for tender cuts.
[Platform Cafe] has an air-conditioned area and an outdoor smoking area. Very spacious and comfortable~ It is a good time to dine, talk business or meet up with friends
It's a place you can go to for a cheap and no-fuss meal but keep your expectations in check although the chendul is worth trying if you like very fine shaved ice. If I do come back it would to try their Assam Laksa (since I had a small sampling with the fried popiah dip) and to have their chendul again....but next time I'll have my own bowl and ask for less sweet (or ask for the gula melaka to be served separately) to make it as perfect as possible (for my personal taste bud)! ^_*
Look at that tasty-looking cross section slices of beef shank (the two slices with "patterns" in the meat). They were very tender too - so delicious!
The restaurant is air-conditioned so you can dine in comfort. The menu features various combinations of beef parts and diners can also choose what type of noodles as well as whether they want it dry or in soup.
Kokoro means "Heart". Serving authentic traditional Japanese cuisine which is prepared by their chef with more than 30 years of culinary experience
Grilled Pork Belly Don (RM16.90)
Cheesy Octopus @ RM10.90 Our preferred one out of the 4 is the octopus. We liked the contrast between the spongy octopus and soft mashed potato worked perfectly. Smoked duck come close to second as the smokiness of the duck slices balanced well with the sweetness of the potato.
My Personal Opinion I don't know what's the 'secret' in the name...but I do know that the 'Penang' part of it wasn't met in some of their offerings. I didn't like any of their soup based noodles, like prawn mee, assam laksa or curry mee, nor their drinks. Their fried rice, char kuey teow and chee cheong fun fared much better, so these would be the more worthwhile options here, if you ask me.
Service here was seriously bad because the they hire some Vietnamese workers which cant understand what the fish we're saying which makes it pretty hard to communicated while taking order but most of the restaurant or Kopitiam now days is the same
Usually we preferred just the pork belly and pork ribs and the soup with taufupok and youtiao. Kim Zen’s version of bakuteh is decent, the taste is alright, nothing to shout about and it is pure comfort food. We believed that their service can be improved especially during peak hours.
I remember reading a post by Submerryn about the tasty pork chop at this eatery so when we were at Cheras Leisure Mall a few days ago, we tried it. I also remember PH trying the food at another branch twice.
I personally wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone . Try it at your own risk ^^...
