I liked the fact that the dish came with 4 options for vegetables as oppose to the usual 3. There was spinach, corn + carrot, beetroot and cucumber. The corn + carrot was a rare combination, I cant say I’ve come across it being served at restaurants. I really liked how they cooked it – spicy and packed with flavorful, thick tasty gravy. The Chicken Varuval was awesome but since I couldn’t personally pick out the pieces I wanted, let’s just say there were plenty of bones. Not a big issue though, since I was using my hands to eat, my fingers can work, work, work. The Chicken 65 was a good addition, it provided something crunchy and chewy to an otherwise wet, moist dish. Overall, I had a good time here and yup, I agree, food is good here.
Unfortunately, I found the whole experience rather mediocre. Worst still, I felt like I have wasted my calorie allowance by eating this BLR. The prices are quite reasonable though – RM 6.20 for the rice with refillable veggies and curries and around RM 6 per small plate of protein. But I probably wouldn’t ever return.
A typical Banana Leaf Rice here served with 3 vegetable cost RM6. Price isn’t expensive but not considered cheap either – especially for the vegetable spread we received. While the restaurant rotates its vegetable spread daily, on this particular day the spread was uninspiring and disappointing.
