One can't miss out having this Dobin Mushi – Tea Pot Clear Soup. It is a clear broth with a nice clean taste. We like how it was presented and how to get the maximum taste. You start off drinking the clear soup from the teacup as it is. This ensures that you taste out the natural flavour of the soup.

Charlie’s Chicken Chop did live up to its hype. We loved the juicy, large whole chicken thigh with its crispy, non-greasy batter. The beef strips are first marinated, hung out to air-dry, then deep fried and is served with a tangy, spicy tomato jaew sauce. My verdict: Will I visit them again? Probably not. Will I recommend them? Probably yes, but only their breads and pastries. I'd always come back for pastries and breads takeaway after 5pm (hooray 30% off!).

Yeast serves decent food and very reasonable prices, especially for their wonderful coffee. The bill came up to RM 83.75 for the two of us. The best thing about Yeast is that they don’t charge 10% service charge, it’s the standard 6% GST only and this is advertised quite prominently at their outlet in Mid Valley. It’s a nice place to go for a quick bite to eat in the afternoon if you’re into French casual.

The star of this lunch - deep fried grouper fish at MYR 120.80+ (MYR 132.88 nett). Luckily we requested for the sauce to be served separately because we do not like the crispy fish to be wet and drenched in sauce. When we ordered this dish, the server informed us that a fish weighs about 800g (price is MYR 8 per 50g) and we were ok with it. The fish is very crispy and fresh so we ate everything including the head but leaving the main back bone.

Alibaba & Nyonya - Mid Valley Restaurant

F-051 1st Floor, Mid Valley MegaMall Lingkaran Syed Putra Mid Valley City 59200 Kuala Lumpur

Peranakan food is no stranger to Malaysians. Malaysians have always lived in the cultural sphere of Baba Nyonya, especially the food fusion of Malay and Chinese cooking – ayam pongteh, pie tee, cincalok, kari kapitan and many more. We understand our guests fancies Peranakan cooking style and would like to have some traditional Melayu cooking style in the restaurant too. There’s the reason we innovate traditional Malay/Nyonya food with a modern twist on our recipe and menu. Now guests may enjoy both Peranakan and traditional Melayu cooking style at the same time. Delicious platter filled with 5 types of food item - 5 spice chicken rolls (similar to ngo hiong), crispy popiah, prawn kerabu, chicken and shrimp wanton and deep fried dumplings (sui gao) with what I thought was salted egg yolk fillings in them but later, I noticed that the poster printed "cheesy fortune cookies" as one of the items so it must be that this dumpling is filled with cheese and not salted egg yolk.

I ordered the multigrain lontong dish. It has half a hard boiled egg, long beans, cabbage, brinjal, carrot, tempeh, glass noodles and about 7 cubes of compressed rice made from multigrain rice so it is not as soft as the rice cubes in the lontong that I have eaten at Ole Melaka, DC Mall and AMAH, the Sphere. The curry is creamy, not that spicy so it is suitable for me but it is more on the sweet side (I prefer it to be less sweet). I kept half for dinner.

I ordered the Base Ice Mix with the lowest price which is Soya Ice Mix at MYR 9.60+ (MYR 10.20 nett) in which I selected the exact 3 toppings that I had before with Matcha Shaved Ice - actual Taro / Yam as the premium topping and for the two classic toppings, peanuts and red bean. Previously with the Matcha Shaved Ice, I did not like that there is a slight soya taste in the Matcha Ice but surprisingly I am fine with the soya taste when it is purely soya shaved ice.

Fish Katsu Curry Rice ala carte (MYR 16.80 nett) at Yoshinoya, Midvalley Mall. I like the curry because it is not sweet and has lots of potatoes and carrots in it. The fish is passable with some translucent flesh around the edges. I am satiated after eating half of the portion because I am a small eater. Luckily my friend is with me to eat the other half.

Overall, it was a perfect dinner for me. Good service and thanks for the recommendation. Your choice was great!! I really enjoyed it. Second visit? A big YES for me. The small portion was more than enough for me, but if you are a big eater, go for their bigger portion.

Beef Mushroom Pie at Dave Deli, Midvalley Mall at MYR 11.55 nett after 30% discount for weekday lunch. The fillings of the beef pie is very tasty and I kept half for later. There is a wedge of sweet potatoes among the wedges of carrots. I wish that they give me more wedges of sweet potatoes.
