Steamed Cod with Chinese Ham Served with Honey and Supreme Stock Paste The generous portion of the cod comes perfectly good to our tastebuds. The cod is perfectly steamed together with the Chinese Ham bringing you the aromatic flavours . The dish is just awesomely good where the fish remains its flaky texture but the flavours are enhanced by the Chinese Ham as well as Supreme Stock Paste.

YURI / Matcha 6th Avenue Cheesecake! Priced at RM21, this is exclusively made available at The Tokyo Restaurant, Isetan The Japan Store, Lot 10. We personally prefer this to the original now as it has the right balance of sweetness together with the matcha. So velvety smooth and tasty!

Priced at RM20, you will get a slice of lusciously rich and creamy cheesecake with whipped cream. For example we really like this Unagi Bao RM28. Small in size, big in flavours. Spicy, succulent unagi contrasted by crunchiness of deep fried nori, flavours lifted up with salted egg crumble and julienne cucumber for a refreshing crisp that comes in just right. We enjoyed most of it, especially the Unagi Benedict. It’s essentially Egg Benedict, topped with avocado, poached eggs, barbecue Unagi and Sansho pepper. For those looking for something unique and unconventional, this is the dish for you. We liked the Japanese twist of this brunch dish. Surprisingly Unagi and egg pairs very well together. On top of that, the portion was just nice. Overall, we found this combination rich and deeply satisfying.

Another popular item at Lai Ching Yuen is the Claypot Pork Belly With Salted Fish, where pork belly is cooked in high heat with ginger, a generous amount of scallions and red onion for a bit of texture. The pork belly slices were juicy and came with enough fat for flavour. Since it was cooked with salted fish, this dish can be a bit one-dimensional in terms flavour—salty, therefore it is best to tone down the saltiness by pairing it with a bowl of white rice.

The other main was Confit of Soon Hock. I like this one better. The fish was cooked decently and flakes off well. I thought the portion was a little too small to be a main but maybe that’s an internal food cost calculation thing. I would go for this over the beef. The addition of potato balls (?) was a bit curious though. I did not think it added to the dish and the texture doesn’t go very well since both are soft.

I tried both version of soup and dry beef noodles and found that dry version taste better. Also their dry version with peanuts which makes the noodles taste better. The meat is soft. The tendon is good and normal beef noodles bowl came with beef balls & tripes. I order extra honeycomb which is very tender and taste good in beef broth. For MYR 13 nett, there is a lot of ingredients (exclude the honeycomb tripe which is from the big bowl). This is the closest to my favourite Yong Kang beef noodle in Taiwan that I can get in KL but the broth does not taste as strong although many people who have reviewed this eatery wrote that the broth taste very strong (star anise) to them. The chunks of beef are very tender with a strong beef taste so for those who do not like strong beef taste, please give them to your friends who do.

First to arrive was the Daging Rusuk, and the staff promptly portioned it out for us and served it on our plates. Great service! The beef ribs has first been braised, then charcoal grilled, imparting a delicious smokiness to the tender meat. The meat was especially good eaten with the air asam jawa as the tangy sauce pairs well with the rich meat. Highly recommended!

Our most favourite dish here in A • Toast is their Milky White Toast (RM8.90). Not only the dish was visually appealing, we loved the combination of fluffy white bread and grilled chicken. There was a good zestfulness and kick from the chicken. Overall, the entire dish was very flavourful and delicious.

Verdict: The food we had was just mediocre but I know there are people who love their food but definitely not me. The long waiting time and the uncomfortable dining environment (outdoor seats) most probably the main factors that deter me for a revisit.

The chicken patty that accompanied the burger was not fried but grilled. It was nicely flavored, with a spread of green secret sauce, it made for a delicious burger. Oh, and the caramelized onions made it awesome. There was also a coat of cheese and pickled vegetables cubes. All these lead to a combination of flavors that somehow worked really well together. It totally make sense why this is one of their popular burgers.

Her absolute favorites were the mains, she single-handedly demolished the duck and lamb and was so delighted to find out they had perfectly sautéed some yummy fresh green beans, carrots and cherry tomatoes just the way we like it, barely seared, crunchy, well-seasoned yumminess. We may or may not have ordered another two more portions, which you can do as long as they have stock.

Pisco Bar Restaurant

29 Jalan Mesui Bukit Bintang 50200 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

By visiting Pisco Bar you will be able to taste today what the rest of the world will be eating tomorrow. Today, Peruvian cuisine has two main icons in the world. The first one is certainly Cebiche. The second, which you may already know, is undoubtedly Pisco Sour. But what is new about Pisco Bar, though, is the approach to Peruvian cuisine, as it recognizes its influences and proposes a significant variety of some of the most succulent Spanish tapas. Peruvian cuisine has been praised by the Spanish superstar Ferran Adrià and is quickly finding its rightful place in the world food scene. Peruvian cuisine, as with Malaysian food, is a unique blend of indigenous and colonial cookery traditions. With influences from Andean to Spanish, Japanese and Chinese to African and Italian.
