It's not common to see Canelé in Penang as it is not easy to get the consistency of the crust and soft-tender center. We were lucky to taste Slow Coffee Person Slow Bar's.... not always on their menu, their Canelé was good. The crust was crisp and with an addictive, delightful bitterness while the inner part exhibits custardy aroma.
Their signature Baba & Nyonya High Tea Set is probably the best way to kick start, it allows diners to order 5 items from the Kuih selection. We had Ubi Kayu Kukus, Kuih Seri Muka, Yam Cake, Kuih Kacang Merah and Kuih Bengka. My personal favorite was the Ubi Kayu Kukus, which was firm but bold with Tapioca flavor.
We particularly like the signature bubur cha cha, a medley of sweet potatoes prepared with fresh coconut milk and a nice sweetness of palm sugar.
Foodies, we highly recommend you guys pay Nyonya Palazzo a visit!
For starter, we had the Herbs Mushroom Bruschetta... served on a piece of crusty bread, lightly spread with Avocado and topped with Oyster Mushrooms, Feta Cheese, Cherry Tomatoes, Chick Peans, Sunflower Seeds and Pomegranate. The flavor combo was straight-forward but delicious. Seasoning was minimal but more than enough to bring out the flavors.
The Shanghainese Soup Dumplings contained some really sweet, toothsome broth; though a tad pity that the skin was too thick to our liking.
Intrigued by it, we ordered Xiao Long Bao (RM 15 / 6 pieces) for trial and it was rewarding. These steamed buns were packed with generous and delicious pork fillings, along with nice broth. If the skins of the steamed buns are made thinner yet can hold the generous fillings and broth, these steamed buns definitely would have been excellent.
For mains, the Black Pepper Chicken Chop fared better than the Chicken Bolognese Pasta, the former choice had a luscious sauce, tender Chicken and crisp-soft Garlic Butter Bread (which we presumed from 6 Cinnamon). The combination was nice and no complains for the price.
Quite surprisingly, Tofu Village is also popular among tourists. This is mainly due to the fact that the restaurant serves vegetarian dishes.
