Reasons to visit Cheong Fatt Tze – The Blue Mansion Penang: fantastic location; a culturally significant stay in a beautifully maintained museum with luxurious amenities and modern-day comforts; lap pool and garden; Indigo restaurant.
Reasons to visit Indigo Blue Mansion: Contemporary cuisine founded in local flavours with European cooking techniques; gorgeous setting; a fine dining experience in Penang; a place that takes hygiene SOPs seriously.
The Blue Mansion is now reopened, welcoming Penangites to stay and dine.
We stayed in the largest room category, the Han Suites, which is extra spacious and ideal for our family of four. All their rooms carry names with significance to Cheong Fatt Tze; for instance, our suite was called Mandarin, in honour of Cheong Fatt Tze who was recognised as the last Mandarin of the Highest Order by Empress Dowager. The grand chambers is appointed with a comfortable king-sized bed, as well as a separate sitting room with a day bed (which converts into a bed for the kids at night) and a dining table. We loved the modern bathroom, equipped with a shower and a gorgeous clawfoot bathtub. You will also find various other contemporary comforts and amenities such as a coffee machine, complimentary mini-bar, air-conditioning and complimentary WiFi for your comfort. The traditional sarong provided is a nice touch, where guests are invited to relax like a local. Every evening, local kuih is delivered to your room as part of their turndown service.
For mains, I had the Chargrilled Black Angus tenderloin (RM65 supplement), which comes with potato gratin, seasonal vegetables and green peppercorn sauce. Perfectly grilled and tender.
Reasons to visit The Edison George Town Penang: stylish boutique hotel conveniently located in the heart of George Town; club lounge benefits usually associated with the club floor of 5-star hotels; connection to local in both service and facilities; ample parking.
Excellent meal in a restaurant inspired by Cheong Fatt Tze himself, in a setting of "West meets East" where the design compliments the fine dining created and presented by Chef Weng!
Neptune Burger was merely Fried Fish Fillet doused with Tartar sauce; the combo was lovelier than the earlier option. Nothing spectacular about the Fish Fillet but the Tartar sauce was beautifully done with a gentle acidic touch. Good that they did not overkill the burgers with sauces or Cheeses though.
