The noodles were done very well – tender, smooth and qq with bite, in a strong vinegary spicy lardy sauce, and coming with fresh crispy pork lard. The ingredients were all standard fare but cooked well, including the fresh liver and bouncy fishballs.
Recommended by Daniel Food Diary. The lor or braising sauce had a seriously deep and meaty flavour, although retaining some lightness and balance, and complemented the noodles and ingredients well. The shredded duck meat added some texture and variation, and the ngo hiong was quite sweet and tasty.
Recommended by Johor Kaki, a popular stall with a constant ten-plus person queue which moved quite fast. The braising sauce was very tasty, having a non-herbal deep soy sauce flavour with a slight sweetness and five spice and duck aroma.
Flowy salted egg within the crispy croissant, with melty and rich raclette cheese over it. Indulgent stuff, at the cafe that start it all – the salted egg and the raclette cheese trends.
Ms Lu might have been an absolute beginner when it comes to cooking, but she’s definitely mastered the wok well enough to get a frequent stream of customers at Quan Ji Cooked Food!
While I’d pass on the wanton noodles unless I’m having sudden cravings for it, I would definitely go for the roasted meats at Chuan Cheong Wanton Noodle again. Even now, I can’t stop thinking about the roasted pork and duck!
Prata with a queue that draws my attention in Serangoon North Ave 1
It's one of the hundreds of food stalls that epitomises Singapore hawker culture upholding tradition, taste, affordability and community.
Yi Liu Xiang Nasi Lemak is the most popular stall at Hainanese Village Centre in Hougang.
Hainanese Village (Lor Ah Soo) Centre is a relatively small market & food centre but it is well loved as there are several good food stalls and warm kampung spirit here.
