Food at Fong Sheng Hao is focused on Taiwanese breakfast dishes, especially charcoal-grilled toast sandwiches. The fragrance of fresh brewed coffee and tea lingers, while around, metal plates are piled with succulent sandwiches.
Taiwanese chain Fong Sheng Hao seems to be a big deal here in Singapore. It has long queues and people rave about it. I went and tried out their TW Special Sandwich. I was very, very, very unimpres…
I love Sushi and Sashimi, but I have always been on the fence in regards to Donburi and Poke. I am not sure why, it just seems like it is all mixed together and you enjoy it almost the same way. Bu…
Very average chirashi don.
Food at Donburi King is Japanese cuisine, focused on rice bowls. Ingredients are fresh and tasty, resulting in quality of most dishes being pretty good. The menu has good variety, so repeat visits are worthwhile. Portions are large for individuals. Prices are reasonable and affordable, budget about SGD $28 per person.
We had a pleasant dining experience at Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King Niku King.
Prices are not extravagant, and you do get more than a fair amount of decent food.
We tried all three styles with flavoured egg and added additional S$1.00 per portion for spicy paste for the Miso Ramen.
Yakiniku Like in Paya Lebar Quarter is a specialty yakiniku fast food restaurant for affordable Japanese BBQ. We have not managed to eat in the popular restaurant but we enjoyed a good Yakiniku Like Takeaway meal at home.
If you love a good meal of grilled meats and no frills concept, you should head down to Yakiniku Like soon.
I love yakiniku, but it's pricey. So this chain from Japan sounded promising, as they were serving cheap sets as fast food under the name Yakiniku Like (10 Paya Lebar Road #B1-28, 6970-7397).
Charcoal-Grill & Salad Bar Keisuke, a new concept restaurant of Chef Keisuke Takeda’s chain, offers a variety of sumiyaki (charcoal-grilled) dishes. The restaurant in Paya Lebar Square is quite compact and can accommodate about 30 guests during normal times. With safe-distancing measures, even fewer diners can get to eat in the restaurant.
To me, this is a place I could go back to repeatedly for a good, comforting and satisfying meal at pretty affordable prices.
Food that is cooked over charcoal seals in the moisture and flavour, giving consistently tender and succulent results.
Kanada-ya’s award-winning, flavourful pork bone broth is first boiled for 18-hours, making it rich and creamy before mixing in a secret sauce to add flavour and umami to the broth.
Kanada-Ya specialized in the authentic Tonkotsu ramen, the award-wining, rich and flavouful pork bone broth boiled for 18 hours before mixing in a secret sauce to add flavour and umami to the broth.
This is a satisfactory meal. The ramen is good. Not my top 5 favourite ramen shops in Singapore. But good enough to sate any ramen cravings.
If you’re someone who goes to cafes for the “vibes”, it’s highly likely that Knots Cafe And Living will be right up your alley.
Beautiful pretty cafe. Nice woody latte.
Albeit on the pricier side, Knots Café and Living is a great date spot for those looking to dine at an idyllic café.
Service at Zing By Xi Yan is friendly and efficient. Staff are clear in recommending dishes and taking orders, demonstrating basic product knowledge. As some staff employed have special needs, there is less casual interaction, and diners are advised to exercise patience. Staff offer to remove finished plates throughout the meal, and clean up quickly when diners leave. Experience is generally pleasant.
Good quality food at reasonable prices, Zing by Xi Yan is a contemporary dining option which will appeal to the younger crowd or the family demographics in Paya Lebar.

Rempapa is a new all-day-dining restaurant, serving the flavours of the Chinese, Peranakan, Eurasian, Indian and Malay kitchens.
I was looking forward to Chef Damian’s kueh kosui but there was something better — Durian Bingka. This well-loved baked tapioca cake has a distinct durian fragrance which everyone enjoyed.
Hello Makan Kakis! It’s been at least a year since we last caught up with MasterChef Singapore Judge & our foodie friend, Chef Damian D’Silva. He returns this week to tell us all ab…
You may enjoy the Kurobuta Pork Sate Lilit With Sambal Matah (SGD $9) if you can get past the pungent, fermented aroma this has.
Service at Tipsy Bird Gastrobar is above average.
Tipsy Bird Paya Lebar is a lively venue for drinks in the evening, with sports screening and live perfornaces, but also a nice quiet spot for lunch.
Tingkat PeraMakan is another place that I walk by all the time but have never tried until a friend asked to meet there for lunch.
The best thing about TingKat PeraMakan may be that you do not need to have a big group to enjoy a variety of dishes. The prices are not low but affordable and you do get good quality and tasty food at TingKat PeraMakan.
Service at Wursthans is partially self-service, with ordering and payment online, as well as self-collection of orders.
Wursthaus Switzerland is a new casual Swiss restaurant in PLQ serving sausages, rosti, meatloaf, chicken, sandwiches, soups, salads, tarts & desserts.
Maccha Cheese Dorayaki - i looked at this as three separate desserts! Aside from the stack of dorayaki, you also get soft serve ice cream and shirotoma dumplings with azuki beans.
Maccha House has an extensive selection of Maccha-based drinks and desserts and its food menu also offers a variety of Japanese cafe staples. It has reasonably priced sets which makes it a nice place for affordable casual meals.

Frankly, there are not many cafes in Singapore with such a nice alfresco dining space. The service standard is a shame at Jimmy Monkey PLQ, unfortunately.
a space that works well for catch-ups without having to jostle with the crowd that serves up decent fare and good coffee to pair with.
Jimmy Monkey Cafe in PLQ is a nice place for good coffee as well as for brunch and dinner. It opens early, offers al fresco dining and has a nice laid back atmosphere. The new Jimmy Monkey PLQ has certainly enhanced the hip quotient of Paya Lebar.
Ajumma’s is popular with a young fanbase. It is easy to understand why. The casual Korean eatery is unpretentious but effortlessly cool. Service is friendly and efficient. Most importantly, it serves a wide variety of good Korean dishes at wallet-friendly prices.
Collin’s Gastro Dining offers menu of quality Western food at affordable prices in setting where friends & families can indulge in good food & company.
Overall, the ramen did satisfy my craving for a piping hot bowl of ramen with umami-flavoured broth and firm noodles. While a thicker piece of chashu would have been fantastic, the overall combination of the ingredients was great making it a value-for-money bowl of ramen
The beef was sliced to a nice thickness and the rolled slices were neatly presented. The platter of vegetables, mushrooms and beacurd was of a sizeable portion.
Chimichanga Paya Lebar is a new Mexican restaurant bar at PLQ serving tacos, quesadillas, hand-crafted cocktails & freshly brewed beer.
