If you want a local Penang version of loh mee, you can visit Kim Leng Loh Mee at Restoran Joo Huat at Perak Road Penang.
1119 Curry Mee Stall at Joo Huat Cafe is one of the curry mee selling in Penang that served non-santan (no coconut milk) at their base. The taste of the curry mee is as good as those that have included santan and it is packed with nostalgic and classic flavor. The blood cockles are fresh and juicy, while the soup is thick and aromatic, and the chili paste is packed with pungent. Overall the curry mee is worth the taste
The pancake taste good, the outer layer of the pancake is crunchy and the ingredient inside it is good too, though simple but I like it.
他们有很多种鱼/肉丸和鱼饼。有几种新鲜的海鲜,如贻贝,墨鱼和蛤蜊。
Food here comes in big portion and it is tasty too. I ordered their Ssambap set which comes with Samgyupsal, a big bowl of Kimchi Stew, Rice and Vegetables. The meat is tasty and the Kimchi Stew is nice.
For Rm 21, diners get to enjoy both Tteokbokki and Kimbap as a set. Kimbap tasted fine but the Tteokbokki sauce was a little diluted, as in it was a little watery and not thick enough to cling onto the Korean Rice Cake. Instead of being sweet, it carried a peculiar spiciness and we found out why.... they have included Bird's Eyes Chilies. The Spicy Korean Fried Chicken was not any better either, though the texture was legit, they possessed a peculiar fermented Soy flavor which we were quite fond of. In terms of sweetness and spiciness, we thought they were alright. A little hits and misses but given the wallet-friendly price points, we thought the place is worth-trying, at least for novelty experience.
Here's the location.
The area of Jelutong is fast becoming a Vietnamese food hub, with the opening of a few Vietnamese restaurants in the vicinity. Little Ha Noi takes a strategic lot opposite to the market, highly visible from the bustling Perak Road. The Vietnamese restaurant has an impressive spread though... with easily more than 100 types of dishes on offer- the quintessential Pho, Spring Rolls, Baguette, Steamboat, Banh Xeo and whatever you can think of. The bright and charming facade exudes a welcoming vibe, while the interior decor delivers a different result- homey with shades of Chinese restaurants and the Vietnamese handicrafts and knick-knacks adorned the walls. Most of the servers do not speak local dialects but the Cashier does understand Mandarin. While we did not manage to try a lot of their dishes, most of them were above average and we were more than happy with the serving portion. A place that I would love to make another visit whenever I crave for Vietnamese eats.
He says: My favourite lok lok! =) Loveeee fried wantons, loh bak and the "ju hu eng chai" (cuttlefish kangkong). She says: All the raw foods are fresh. I like the fried wantons. Not so much meat inside but it's super yummy when you eat it with their spicy sauce.
Just wait for the water to boil and you can start dipping your Lok Lok into the hot water. Mix and match with your own choice of seafood/fish balls or whatever ingredients. One thing for sure, their seafood were very fresh on that day, particularly the squid and prawns, so succulent and juicy, I don't mind having more right now. Most importantly, the satay sauce and the chili padi sauce complemented well with the seafood. Apart from the seafood, they do have various kinds of fish balls, pork meat balls, quail eggs, dumplings, vegetables etc. Recommended.
We were having our lunch here after the Qing Ming Festival. I missed the Lok-lok very much, and I felt comfortable and enjoy having the lok-lok even under the hot sunny day! :)
One of the oldest and well-known roast houses in Jelutong area is Kim Poh... previously housed within a snug lot under a low-cost flat behind the famous Kim Leng Loh Mee but it has since moved to a bigger lot right opposite to the aforementioned Loh Mee stall. The new shop is brighter and seemingly cleaner; it's hard to miss Kim Poh... the huge facade and signage will easily catch the attention of any road users on Perak Road. The renovation gave the shop a modern interior with comfortable seating; business has been brisk with long queues spotted during lunch hours and dinner hours. Kim Poh specializes in Roasted goodies, particularly Roasted Chicken, Roasted Duck, Barbecue Pork and Roasted Pork... along with mains like Wan Ton Mee, Porridge, Rice and sides like braised Tofu/ Egg, blanched Bean Sprouts etc. We believe one of the reasons that contributed to the success of Kim Poh is the affordable prices and quality offering.
肉骨茶汤里有该有的佐料,猪肉、猪肉丸、金针菇、排骨、腐竹皮、玉米荀等都很好吃
Personally, we enjoyed the char scent imparted by the chef to the fried rice, and presence of tiny char siew pieces and fried shallots further elevated its aroma. Pour in the nice sambal to introduce a subtle heat component makes the fried rice even more enjoyable.
Over here, a classic piece of Apom Balik with peanut solely cost RM 1 only. While taste is a very objective flavour, we enjoyed the generous quantity of banana slices in our Apom Balik Pisang, though we'd hoped for an additional dash of peanuts.

Initially hesitant about trying Siam Road Charcoal Char Kuey Teow due to trying a different CKT place, I eventually decided to give it a try. However, the experience wasn't the most pleasant due to the non-air-conditioned setting and an extensive queue. The uncle cooking the CKT prepared each plate individually, leading to a considerable wait.
Siam Road CKT remains close to the hearts of many.
Its good and ddfinitely Penang.
Along with a nice cosy ambiance to go with it. If you have not tried their desserts before, you should :)
Creamy tong-sui is showcased in the bubur cha cha, green bean sago, and the black glutinous rice, with the former cooked in coconut milk and the latter complemented by a topping of thick coconut milk.
Tiger CKT is one of those famous CKT that located in a Old Coffee Shop in George Town, which is open for breakfast and lunch, perserving is RM7.50 at this date and time, comes with 2 large prawns, and will customize the CKT to your requirements. I would rate this place is as one of the Top CKT in town. (personal).
The Char Koay Teow may not look much different from the others, but it was really delicious, fragrantly fried with lots of “wok-hei” flavour! We suspected the use of duck egg made the delectable plate even more fragrant. It didn’t leave a very greasy feel too. Much better than the one we had from an unknown stall in Pulau Tikus the previous day!
The place was in in full swing on Sunday morning circa 10.00am and we were lucky to secure the last table or else we might need to wait table for hours according to Ken. We placed our order and wait patiently for our food to be served. There are other foods available in the coffee shop too such as prawn noodle (known as Hokkien Mee in Penang), Lor Bak and etc.
During my visit, i tried their thin crusted 10" pizza dough which is topped with napoli tomato paste, swiss gouda mozzarella cheese, oregano herbs, parsley, basil leaves or rockets and topping of smoked salmon, olive and onion. This pizza is tasty with its crunchy thin layer of dough. It is enough to fill up your tummy without making you feel bloated.
Teriyaki Chicken and Sesame Pasta was probably the best scorer of the day but it was a misnomer. We were expecting a dry Pasta with Teriyaki sauce as seasoning but it was in fact, a cream-based Pasta topped with Teriyaki Chicken. The sauce was alright- creamy and perfectly seasoned but the Linguine was slightly overcooked (a little too soft to our liking).
Another best brekkie specialty is the Grill Salmon & Scrambled Egg. A surprise indeed as its visual does not prepare one’s guests for the fish dish. The marinated salmon rolled into the shape of sausage goes through a grilling cooking process, and served with scrambled egg on top of a slice of wholemeal baguette. A tasty Hollandaise sauce prepared from egg yolks accompanies it well.
Soul Cafe 也不例外,推出了四道邪恶的的圣诞精选!
Soul Cafe also caters special menu for events and celebrations.
Their food and coffee are pretty impressive as well as usual. And definitely not forgetting their lava cake lol.
The thick and fragrant curry, where the fish heads are cooking is said to be delicious. It goes very well with roti prata and will keep you wanting more.
Overall, Living Room offers a nice ambience to dine at. The taste of certain food here is nice especially the Kam Heong pasta and Red Wine Stew Beef which are my favorites. These dishes will be my in my order list when I visit next time.
Moreoever, we got to know the soup base was prepared, cooked and simmered a night before. No wonder we could savour a natural sweet taste and it is so addictive to enjoy the soup.
套餐的份量很大, 服务生捧炭炉上桌的时候炉火旺盛, 热腾腾的汤底滋滋作响。
The Pad Thai Seafood (RM 8.90) was impressive. It shares almost 70% similarities with the Pad Thai we had in Bangkok and the heat component was no joke. It put our mouth on fire and we had to take small pauses in between to give some resting period for our tongue.
泰式鳳梨炒飯 Pineapple Fried Rice RM8.90 This is the best dish that we ordered. Yummy!
丰富的材料一层一层的叠进盆中,将最容易吸收汤汁的材料放在最底层,越是在盆深处的菜,滋味越浓,赞!
Penang Food Trail 2022
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We definitely want to return when we head up north again (salivating as we type this) and pray that it won’t become too famous then so we can get our fix easily. This is truly one of the best koay teow th’ng in Penang.
说说这里的粿条汤,我们喜欢罗记的粿条汤底,很鲜甜。
I like that they do not put in any preservatives inside the coconut jelly.
oh do you know that the jelly is made in the coconut itself? unlike how we make our konnyaku jelly where we pour the mixture into moulds and let them chill and set. here at Joez Coconut, the coconut (outer husk removed) is first roasted in the oven and then chilled in cooler room. and that’s how the jelly formed from within! ingenius innit? no addictive or artificial chemical is added so the coconut bought must be kept in refrigerator and is best to consume within 3 days.
