For the longest time ever, I remember that the only hawker food sold at Guan Heng Cooked Food is the Singapore style carrot cake but that’s ...
Having to endure a craving can be such a frustrating chore! My simple mind was hankering for a bowl of dry prawn noodle one Thursday afterno...
The soft radish cubes are fried with their home-made chili (if you opt for spiciness) and chye poh over a large skillet pan before beaten egg was added. Held together by the layer of egg, its exterior was fried to a smokey crisp without being oily.
I am keen to try the fried carrot cake with prawns next time round, so I guess I need to be back again!
The carrot cake here refers to steamed cakes made from rice flour, water and daikon (white radish, which in Chinese, is also referred to as carrot), wok-fried with eggs, garlic, chye poh (preserved radish) and other seasonings to create a hot, savoury snack.
The duck was tender chewy, the tau kwa and peanuts soft, and egg flavourful. The soup was really nice, having the same herbal bitter sweetness but lighter and less savoury than the braising sauce – I drank the entire bowl.
Definitely a few notches better than what i had a few years ago even though my heart continues to flutter towards Sean Kee braised duck rice at Geylang!
I jog almost everyday and I don’t like to be constrained by a running track in a stadium or in the many parks in Yishun. Therefore, you woul...
My family had a satisfying meal at Nummun Thai Kitchen and would definitely be back in the near future, since it's so near to where we stay! The visits would have to be for special occasions though as prices were considered high for suburban neighborhoods. I can only pray it would last long in this area.
With traditional Hokkien salted ducks hard to come by these days, be sure to pop by if you’re in the area!
I was super ecstatic upon seeing the goodies on the rack as it would be at least next year before I would visit Vietnam again, and there were so many stuff I could get from this bakery!
Thankfully, i stay pretty near which means if i visit on a lull weekday like Wednesday, the wait would be less than 15 minutes.
I was quite happy with the char kway teow ordered from Pin Xiang 品香 a few months ago and since we were thinking of getting something to sha...
There was only one thing that i feel could be improved; the addition of crispy pork lard as i didn't find a single piece at all.
As a long time patron of Chong Pang hawker center, I have my regular stalls but would, sometimes, take the opportunity to observe the custom...
Ja Kin Mukata’s XXL platter is definitely more affordable shared between more people, with its customizability being its strong suit so you don’t have to fight over your meat flavours.
I took my time with my chwee kueh and coffee. What a simple and satisfying breakfast.
Excellent lontong in Chong Pang - they make their own rice cakes, the tofu is so soft, the vegetable curry so tasty, the sambal chili is not too spicy nor salty.
A sip of Lian Yin's soya bean milk on a hot day is always so thirst-quenching! And you know what's better? Having a number of hot and crispy youtiao to dip into the cold soya bean drink!
The common comment I heard about Cha Thai is that they are expensive. But if you try them out you would understand why the pricing is so. Having to import quality ingredients from Thailand to whip out authentic flavour hence paying the premium is justified.
The weather has finally turned cooler yesterday and with the lower temperature, I suddenly had a craving for kueh tutu! The nearest for me w...
Wisteria Mall , located in the infamous town of Yishun, has been opened for more than two years. Embarrassingly, as a proud Yishunian, I onl...
I will definitely be back for more of their chicken rice.
In terms of taste, i would very much prefer the Poached Chinese Spinach Soup with Egg Trio and Wolfberries from Hualong Fishhead Steamboat & Tze Char but the price difference (S$9.00 versus S$3.80) and the convenience of being closer to Chong Pang hawker centre means i would still go for this stall whenever the craving hits.
With the café-openings slowing down in Singapore, my recommendation for Wild Wood Café is to have more personality in their dishes, and perhaps introduce a brunch dish or two that is uniquely theirs.
