Fatty Dragon Curry Mee, originally from Kuantan Road. Is now operating at Genting Cafe. Packed with patrons and diners, this is the curry mee that need to queue for the flavorful indulge.
Overall, this CCF is not for us. But it is quite popular as most tables had a plate when we were here. If you’re in the area, do give it a try as it might be suited to your tastebuds. Taste is subjective and personal, after all.
The Curry Mee costs a whopping RM 4 for small portion, and if you want prawns, recommended to order the medium one at RM 4.80. The chilli is just incredible but it was not as oily as others. The best thing about Penang Curry Mee is we have a lot of ingredients like pig blood, cuttlefish, bean sprouts, cockles and beancurd. By 12.30 pm, they have finished 1 big tank of curry soup.
The signature at Genki Canteen is Hokkien Mee and Nasi Lemak. The cafe offers Signature Hokkien Mee at RM 9.90 (which is about double of usual hawker price), while addition of pork rib and prawns to the noodle have the price tag of RM 15.90 and RM 16.90 respectively. Genki Canteen's Hokkien Mee are nicely presented, although it did not differ much in terms of the ingredients offerings and portion. The taste is good though, brimming with nice and rich prawn scent and sleek in taste.
The Signature Hokkien Mee is probably one of the best sellers on the menu. We had the basic one at Rm 9.90 per bowl and it was.... basic. While we must agree that it was a decent Hokkien Mee (discernible Prawn flavor with a hint of Porky notes), the portion was small.
A very well prepared Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak !
One of the food court that provide many delicious local food, there are Hokkien Mee, Lam Mee, Wan Tan Mee and etc...
Here's the location.
🍜 Join me on a culinary adventure as I uncover another food trail of Jawa Mee at O&N Cafe in Island Glades, Penang! 🌴 Having visited this quaint cafe three times before, I finally seized the opportunity to try their legendary Jawa Mee during my last visit.
I have been patronizing O & N Wantan Mee for decades. I used to eat this wantan mee when I was in primary school. My first blog on this wantan mee was way back in 2007 when O & N was still a stall at Delima Mas Coffee Shop. Over the years, they moved from Mandarin Cafe to owning their shop. It has been 30 years since then. I love the taste of the wantan mee here and also now they are having additional nasi lemak that is very splendid as well.
7 Village Noodle House started their business way back at 1956 and is still expending until now. With the age of 65. The Founder Of 7 Village Restaurant, Mr. Lim, Began Their Business Of Selling Koay Teow Soup In Butterworth. Due To Small Population And Inconvenient Transport, Mr. Lim Used The Tricycles To Run Their Business By Cycling Around The Neighborhood. With The Rapid Growth Of Their Business, Mr. Lim Decided To Expand Their Business By Setting Up A Store And Named It As “Lin Restaurant” In 1970. Sin Nam Huat Chicken Rice are one of the famous Chicken Rice Chain Stalls available in Penang. Been to a few of the Sin Nam Huat Chicken Rice shops in Penang and would say you can't go wrong with them. Their Roasted Chicken is their signature dish while their roasted duck and barbecue pork is also just as good. Their home made chili sauce also is a must for condiment.
Apom Telur Island Glades has been around at Hawker Corner of Island Glades for ages and now is passing down to the 3rd Generation. Serving the traditional type of apom it is very classic and mixing the bite texture of outer crunchy while inner fluffy, this stall is one of the recommended apom in town.
Unlike any other places that serve Western Breakfast, AM Noshery serves breakfast differently. The 'Breakfast in a Cup' concept is popular in other countries but not in Penang but that is exactly what makes AM Noshery stands out amongst the rest. Leveraged on the brilliant idea of combining Bacon with Egg, the unassuming cafe within the neighborhood of Island Glades has proven to be one of the favorite spots for the parents to convince their young children eating breakfast. Those with stubborn Asian palate are not forsaken here, AM Noshery offers Asian staples like Rice and Noodles but ironically, we found the noodle dish out-shined its signature AM cups.
We opted for the Egg Benny With Mushrooms which was served in a thick slice of Brioche and a side of greens. The Egg Yolks were not as runny as we would have hoped and the Hollandaise sauce lacked the acidity as well as a pinch of Salt. The Brioche was great though- pillowy soft and nicely buttered; with the earthy fresh Button Mushrooms, the dish was pretty good (would be better if they could refine further).
Burnt Cheese Cake here is tasty, it is soft and creamy time, very tasty and is recommended to try when you are here in CAN By Haru Hari.
The most intriguing item on the menu ought to be The Bird Nest (RM 25). Its name must be derived from the presentation of the dish, as deep fried potatoes & leek resembles the wood sticks or dried leaves in bird nest, and there is a half-boiled egg in the center. To enjoy the dish, you have to crack the egg and mix it evenly with the katsuobushi, along with the veggie pancake at the bottom. It is a dish with an unique taste and presentation we would say, and worthy trying for the refreshing taste.
76 Coffee Stall is famous for its coffee art. For the price of RM2 or so for a cup of coffee, you get to choose a coffee art. Other than that, 76 Coffee Stall is also famous for their half boiled eggs and kaya butter toasts. For those looking for food that is more filling, the nasi lemak is also a good option, which ranges from anchovies to prawns and sambal to curry versions. If you are looking for a good spot for breakfast or lunch, this would be a great option.
For me, i personally like the Coffee, Nasi Lemak and Kaya Toast, you may try these next time when you are here. In terms of price, it is reasonable !
除了Nasi Lemak之外,其实档口还有其他本地糕点,你都可以慢慢一样样买来吃。
Stir-fried yellow noodles with clams is simplistic. Done with a pleasantly sweet taste of clams and mild zingy ginger kick, the noodle is served with accompanying spicy sambal.
There are many other selections recommended by the crew, namely kappa, sotong and etc but we had a Butter Mantis Prawn (RM 12) instead. The creamy and sleekness were well balanced, giving a rich taste if you take the sauce to complement the white rice.
The 3-flavored Black Pomfret did not impress us from the appearance but it was in fact, skillfully cooked. The flesh was moist and soft while the outer parts of the fish were deep fried to a crisp... slathered with a sweet-savory sauce. It can be dangerously addictive to munch on the crisp sides of the fish or to enjoy the meaty-bite with Rice
Environment here is really calm and relaxing with green trees surrounding 三点三 Meet.
不妨到Jelutong 的《三点三Meet》吃菠萝包吧!
Many come here for their signature Polo Bun (RM 3.20), which is freshly baked by the owner. Although it looks appealing with its golden and crumbly crust, it lacks both the crisp texture and buttery scent which we were looking for. Its saviour actually came from the cheese slices and turkey ham, which we added at RM 1 and RM 1.50 respectively.
Affordable and yummy breakfast available at Batu Lanchang, this place is known to many by breakfast under the tree but the actual name is ROTI by Golden Bowl.
Loved the Salted Cheese Series which sounds off putting however it tastes amazing.
Having all these special and tasty food under one roof is awesome, I can pick and match what I want to eat from their menu, then enjoy a good relaxing breakfast under big shady tree.
Batu Lanchang food court is one of the popular places in Penang that provide almost all types of Penang street food in one stop, From Char Koay Teow to Mee Rebus. From Char Koay Kak to Pasembur. This is the place to be for those that looking for varieties of good food. At this food court, there are a few stalls that are must try out, the Char Koay Teow and Claypot Rice. The 'Mou Tak Teng' Char Koay Teow that has been frying for more than 30 years is serving the great Penang flavor with a fire aroma. The famous 'Kim Por' Claypot Rice is also packed with salted fish aroma and chargrill aroma where all the diners who walk passed with get that smell instantly. These are the few great stalls that make Batu Lanchang Food Court lively.
One of the recommended Char Koay Kak in Penang is Kok Beng Koay Kak at Batu Lanchang Hawker Center. The Koay Kak with Seafood is RM5.50 which is reasonable served with prawns and squids. The Koay Kak is packed with Chargrill aroma and slight spiciness.
Our RM 188 package came with a range of ingredients such as fish maws, grouper fish slices, pork slices, cheese balls, fish balls with fillings, enoki mushrooms, prawns, abalone slices, Chinese sausages, tofu, vermicelli and etc. In our opinion, that is a competitively priced package which best shared among 6-8 adults. The soup itself offers a natural sweet taste but adding prawns to it gave the pot an elevated taste. You may request for fried shallots and chives to be added to the soup for better taste.
Eam Huat Charcoal Steamboat is known for its clear flavoured soup, made by boiling chicken bones, pork bones and fish bones. The steamboat is served piping hot in a traditional metal pot with a chimney holding the charcoal.
Handmade noodle made from fish meat Tender with fish taste in every bite. I liked this very much!! :p
I enjoy my dinner here, though it is simple but it is nice .. !
Smoked Duck Poke – RM16.90, the rice was served with cherry tomatoes, seaweeds, cucumber, lettuces and topped with slices of smoked duck. The sauce for the main dish was either teriyaki or garlic mayo. The salad dressing was served in roasted sesame dressing. The smoked duck slices were juicy and packed with smoky flavor. For this combination I chose garlic mayo which tasted nice and very appetizing. The sesame dressing sauce for the salad was aromatic and delightful. The dietary of this meal is well-balanced and it is a great option for health-conscious people.
Person who likes a sweet end would be delighted to find the desserts here. The Pili Toast and Pala Toast are both topped with a rich layer of Matcha and Tiramisu respectively. Where as for the Strawberry croissant, the crisp pastry is stuffed with some sweet strawberries to give it a mild sweet taste.
My personal favorite here is their fried Tua Pan Koay Teow but i heard many people recommend their Curry Noodles. The Curry Noodles is spicy and you can mix with Bihun and Noodles. The serving size is not big. If you are not a fan of pork blood curd, remember to inform them not to put it in as it will always be serve with pork blood curd. Overall dining in here is nice but the service is a little slow.
As for taste wise, it appears to be lackluster for us and probably we will return if we were too lazy to commute to elsewhere for a morning dim sum.
For Pasta, the Bonito Salmon Carbonara is one of the highlights... al dentely cooked Spaghetti served in a cream-based sauce and topped with Smoked Salmon, Soft-Boiled Egg and sprinkled with Furikake (Japanese Dry Seasoning); a seemingly familiar yet exciting flavor combo.
One of our favourite of the newly introduced dish is the Mediterranean inspired Shakshuka. Reason being the dish is so appetizing, attributed by the sauce made from tomatoes, chili peppers, onion, a variety of spices which offers a sense of pleasant tanginess. It is served with a piece of bread that goes well with the sauce.
他们自制的英式松饼不是传统口味的
This curry mee is white curry mee version in which the base of the soup is made of coconut milk and the taste and spices rely a lot on the curry paste. Overall this curry mee is rich and flavourful and is one of the delicious curry mee in Penang.
Classic Curry Mee – RM4, served with pork blood curds, squid slices, bean curds or ‘tao pok’, bean sprouts and the best part, the curry paste. Having curry mee as my breakfast is not my style but if a curry can seduce me to finish up the entire bowl, this is consideres one of the best curry mee to me.
Peri-Peri Chicken (RM 18.80) immediately caught our attention. It is not that type of fiery and hot peri-peri sauce, but more a mild spicy sauce that drenched over a nicely roasted chicken with tender meat. The sauce blends well with the chicken and elevated its taste. Served with a baked corn and some fries, this set provides a balance of nutritional needs in terms of carbohydrate, protein and fat.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio – RM15.80 Vege, RM20.80 Seafood. Spaghetti sauteed with olive oil, chili flakes, olives, broccoli, squids and lots of garlic. There is a choice of either vegetarian or seafood for different tastebad. To me the simplest dish is the most challenging dish. This is because everyone knows how to cook it and the taste can easily be compared. Therefore, to determine a good cook, I usually will order Aglio Olio. At Papilicious Olivia’s Pasta & Pizza, the aglio olio tasted exciting and spicy. It had the right balance of saltiness, spiciness and garlic taste. I would definitely go back for this again.
Olivia's Cajun Seafood Pasta did not disappoint. The cream-based sauce was multi-dimensional and carefully seasoned on the dot. It carried a hint of spiciness and backed by a handful of Pepper, Seafood was great but we thought the Fettuccine could be more al-dente
