You can't deny that the cafe has a rustic and quirky charm about it but it's a place you'd probably end up liking because of the decor and ambience more than the food. When we were there on a (school holiday) Monday at peak lunch time, the place was pretty empty with just one other table occupied. This is probably a far cry from its manic days when they first opened and were blazing through social media. But still a decent place to hang out over a cuppa (and soak in the quirky interior) or to rest your legs (for north or southbound travellers) ^_* I can't help but wonder why only Burps & Giggles remain to this day....I can only guess that having three cafes in the same row is stretching it a bit, especially so when customers dwindle down after the initial hoo-ha. I suppose that charm and arty ambience can only get you so far but when all is done and dusted, it's the (consistently good) food that will keep you in the game in the long haul! ;)

Overall, we were satisfied with the taste and we could see why they are so popular. The ayam goreng merah is delicious and recommended to try – it is after all their signature dish. However, the curry mixing skill leaves a lot to be desired, as I found the amount of gravy too little and lacked oomph despite repeatedly reminding them for ‘kuah campur banjir’. Anyhow, I asked for more curries on the side and it was provided FOC, so issue solved.

Established since 1971, this award-winning restaurant is undeniably one of the first few eateries that will cross the mind of many when asked “what to eat in Ipoh for breakfast”. If you are the stereotypical type of people thinking to eat Dim Sum whenever you are visiting Ipoh, try Chef Fatt's place next time, at least for a change. The Dim Sum restaurant is a stone's throw distance away from the famous establishments of Foh San, Ming Court and Yoke Fook Moon Restaurant. Stepping in the place feels like you are visiting a Cha Chan Teng (Hong Kong-styled cafe) in Hong Kong- closely arranged tables and chairs, nostalgic wall tiles, slippery floor tiles and classic Chinese restaurant setting. Once you are seated, you will be approached by the ladies offering trays of piping hot Dim Sum dishes and recommended some signature dishes or best sellers of theirs. It feels like dining in an intimate space in the neighborhood; pretty decent quality and reasonably priced, a good alternative to those bigger establishments.

We had a few pieces on the spot and all I can say is that they are delicious especially when they are still warm. There’s a good amount of egg custard in every piece and fills up almost 90% of the shell. The sweetness of the rich and almost molten custard is just spot on and you can clearly smell and taste the buttery aroma. Other specialties to try: Swiss Roll, coconut tarts, walnut cookies and Sachima (萨其马). Come as early as possible to avoid disappointments.
