Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice - Pudu Restaurant

Food was good, yawwww. Very good. The pork sausage + chicken + salted fish + rice = Da’ bomb! As you mix the rice, scooping the bottom, the crunchy slightly burnt part mix with the soft, moist part – a perfect combo. The chicken pieces came infused with a ‘kechuppy’ flavor and it literally falls of the bone, the pork sausage provided a sweetness that complimented the saltiness from the salted fish. Truly satisfying to mix it all up and having a taste, you’d get a burst of flavors.

Simply put, Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice is one of (if not) the best Claypot Chicken Rice in Kuala Lumpur. The claypot dishes here was perfectly cooked and taste quite delicious. The only downside of this restaurant is that it is cooked by foreigners as Madam Heun already passed down the skills to her workers.

The Tiger Prawn Roulade is the perfect example of head to tail eating, utilising every part of the prawn including its head and shell. Drawing inspiration from yong tau foo, the roulade is made with locally sourced prawns; with minced and diced prawns and chestnuts for added texture. The shells are used to make the aioli which the deep fried prawn head sits on. Pickled torch ginger flower and pickled radish complete this delightful dish. One of my favorites from the new menu!

Charlie’s Chicken Chop did live up to its hype. We loved the juicy, large whole chicken thigh with its crispy, non-greasy batter. For the past couple of days, I have been having cravings for Don (short for donburi - a Japanese rice bowl dish). Hence I decided to drop by Five-HT, a Japanese Fusion restaurant, for dinner. One of the reasons why I enjoy fusion food so much is because the amalgamation of flavors and textures, never ceased to surprise me. Just like the fish, the it was marinated in turmeric as well and boy was it flavorful. Just look at them ‘sotongs’ , yummmm! It was all crunchy on the outside and all soft and chewy on the inside. Now, this dish, I’d certainly give it another go. It certainly provided me with a burst of flavors. Loved it.

Unagi Tamage Donburi - This was extremely disappointing - the unagi has a lot of bones. So many that we had to page the staff to inform them of this situation. The staff only said "it's normal to be like that". I'm not sure if they are trained to speak that way, but that's certainly not right. Also, there was no offer to change / remove it off the bill for such a amateur mistake. For an upscale restaurant, bones should be completely removed. If not don't serve it at all. I complained via Instagram and the handler responded with a more positive note - to prepare another bowl on the house the next time I return. This is a great way to let us know that they can do better than that. I haven't actually gone back for food every since - maybe next time. Thanks for handling it well!

I don't understand, their food ain't fantastic to be charging prices like Chillis, it's slightly better than Pappa Rich perhaps but charging rocket high prices. If you deliver the right portion it would make much more sense. Sorry Dome, doesn't make sense for a cafe to charge that kind of price. Still, there are a lot of patrons are fine with paying something that's not great in value. Although I have to admit, their food quality is satisfactory. At least the money did not go down the drain.
