Wanton Mee – White plate or Green plate? That’s the battle of the Wantan Mees at Tanjong Katong. After the original owners of Eng’s Wantan Mee sold it to a group, the relatives decided to open on the other side of the street – Eng’s Char Siew Wantan Mee. So naturally, the debate began.
Overall, we sure like Eng’s Char Siew Wanton Mee.
Not sure if i will come here again but if you like noodles, this shop is the place to go to.
I definitely ate more than I should, the food was way more than enough for 7 of us and burp.
I've lost count of the number of times I've dined at BITP but I know I'll definitely visit again real soon. I just can't get enough of their signature soup and fried fish skin!
The service is excellent but I felt extremely uncomfortable when they bowed 90 degrees to us every time after they served us.
overall 5 out of 6 myself included thinks eng’s wanton noodles just slightly better..
Eng’s wanton mee, particularly the dry version, was definitely a flavourful and delectable dish.
I will return for the roast duck next and hopefully, it lives up to the standards of the other meats I had this time. This stall is worth a journey if you love chicken rice and roast meats.
Famous for their Roast Chicken Rice, but I love it for their Char Siew. Old School, Sweet Caramelised Fatty Pork. Their Roast Pork as well, not too salty at the bottom and crispy at its skin with a mixture of lean and fatty centres.
Recommended by Johor Kaki. The noodles were soft and springy, and came in a fragrant and balanced sauce, slightly savoury, lardy and not quite vinegary. The pork was fresh, pork lard crispy, fishcake springy and meatball and fishball qq, soft and slightly fish flavoured. A bowl that went down quickly and easily, although the smallest $5.50 portion was a bit small.
Overall, a comforting and hearty meal. We went on a weekend and the restaurant was almost empty too.
Perhaps this makes up a decent meal if you are in the vicinity, but I won’t come all the way to Katong for this. To be honest. Then again, skip the horrid coffee.
If you care to step out of your comfort zone to give食得记 a try, I’m confident that you won’t be disappointed.
We were quite impressed by the menu of Old Hong Kong Kitchen and we thought the taste and quality of the food were quite good.
We heard that they are actually famous for their chicken rice but we didn’t get to try it. Perhaps, we will return again to give other dishes a shot.
xioalongbao 小笼包 here average. quite ok but other places like crystal jade, imperial treasures etc are better.
