Went to Ong Cheng Huat Seafood Restaurant after almost 20 years ago..........
Since there are only 3 of us, all ladies, so we ordered two (2) of their signature fried chickens. It cost only RM6.50 per chick. It was well marinated and fried to perfection. It is called "chien kae kia" or fried baby chicken in local Hokkien dialect.
Verdict: Revisit? Most probably yes if I happen to be at Butterworth again. I highly recommend the Deep Fried Spring Chicken and Fried Mee Hoon. I also read a lot good comment regarding their steamed Red Snapper, try it out if you have plan to dine in here.
Poached Hor Fun with Fish. – RM7/- This dish is very similar to the Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun found in all Tim Sum Place, Basically Hor Fun and Fish Slices poached and topped with soya sauce. Quite enjoyable by itself
Basically food is self serve, with on occasion visitation by a server carrying a tray of a single type of Tim Sum. What available here are similar in terms of verity and taste with HQ, however with subtle difference.
Braised Duck Meat, believe the duck meat must be braised for long as it fully absorb the sauce flavor and the bone easily fall of from bone, it is so soft and delicious.
The contemporary design of the shop with classic bak kut teh recipe, this made Lao San Dong outstanding from the rest. Packed with herbs where once sitting at the dinning area of the shop, you can smell the strong aroma is also one of the signatures of Lao San Dong.
There are 3 compelling factors that made us had an enjoyable late dinner here: a) Relatively affordable price for Bak Kut Teh (RM 10/pax) b) Good flavour - Mild herb taste though it was a tad salty. c) A lot of ingredients in the pot of Bak Kut Teh - pick and customize your own without additional cost.
We are following tight SOP to step into the restaurant...
What I like best is either their Dry Laimen, dry style, serve with a giant mince meat ball, and slices of Grilled Honey Pork and half boil egg, or their Pork Belly Laimen, serve with herbal soup, braised pork belly, and slightly undercook (Japanese Style) hard boil egg and their loh bak.
VERY DELIVIOUS...yummy yummy.....................
Luan Fong Coffee Shop is the shop at Bagan Luar, just behind the MPSP big field that is renounced by its famous beef koay teow soup and also the toast, and coffee. This is the place where people queue up and waited for their turn just to get a seat for these delicacies. The beef koay teow soup here is the father of the Famous BM beef koay teow soup that selling for over 30 years, the coffee and toast here has been around for decades too.
The beef noodle served here is one of the best in town, having rich and light broth with mixture of edible beef parts, and the beef balls are delicious. It is notable that the stall uses only halal-ceritified beef in the noodles.
All seafood here are very fresh and delicious
Ong Lai Kitchen Raja Uda 旺来小厨 - 家常小饭。。。。。顶瓜瓜!!
风味家乡猪手,每次吃猪手都是RM30起跳,这里却只卖RM20
Verdict : Decent Boiled Chicken, tasty enough, the only one that open for Lunch. The “Ipoh style” koey teow is only an approximation of the actual Ipoh Version, while the Prawns Dumpling is not bad
It's no secret that Butterworth is home to a few good restaurants that serve delicious Poached Chicken and one of the oldest names in this "expertise" is May Fong Restaurant at Kampung Benggali, Butterworth. It's impossible to miss the place during lunch hours, the place is often thronged with regular patrons especially during weekends. Families bringing the old and young is a common sight here, it is possibly the de-facto dining place for those living in the neighborhood. The menu is small here, in fact, only Poached Chicken and Wan Ton.... with Rice or Ipoh-styled Hor Fun (with add-ons like blanched Sprouts or Vegetables) but more than enough to entice the crowd. The best time to visit would be around 11 am or expect to wait for at least half an hour before your orders are served.
Always famous with ONE PERSON ONE FISH.
PRICE RANGE is reasonable.
How about One Fish per person for your meal? That may sound lavish but that's the norm for diners dining at Lan Je's place. The long-established (since 1978) name- Lan Je Steamed Tilapia (兰姐清蒸非洲鱼) from Rawang has finally opened its first branch in Penang (more than 13 branches across the nation)... at the bustling Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth. It needs no elaborated menu, just a simple one that offers uncomplicated home-cooked dishes with their signature dish- Steamed Tilapia. Freshness is what they believe in and fortunately, the branch in Penang is able to live up that reputation, for serving some of the freshest catch in town. Ironically, the prices are well-maintained at unbeatable-low rate. The name has traveled far and attracted the attention of many gourmands; the past weekend at Lan Je's (Raja Uda branch) was extremely hectic. The restaurant opened at 5:30 pm (for dinner) but the place was already packed to the brim at 5:40 pm. If you intend to make a trip there in the near future, be sure to grab your seat as early as possible.
Like most of the Koay Teow Theng, the bowl comes with flat noodles / vermicelli, fish balls and a generous quantity of minced meat. However, they make a difference to their Koay Teow Theng by adding lemon juices to the soup, creating a zesty flavoured soup. It does not create a wow factor but the resultant soup is more refreshing than usual, and registered a new taste compared to the common Koay Teow Theng we had. If you prefer an usual Koay Teow Theng, just informed the lady beforehand.
如果想吃的话,一定要请早!因为差不多早上10点多就卖完了。
Most people are after the delicious Hainanese Chicken Chop, a fairly priced item at RM 13.50 Personally, we enjoyed the chicken chop. The large chicken fillet has been cut into small slices, and the thick gravy complemented it well by introducing a nice aroma yet without affecting the crispy texture of the chicken chop. Although it appeared to be a heavy dish but it tasted light and easy-going in the palate.
All dim sum looked tempting for me!
We particularly liked the Steamed Prawn Dumplings... we thought they did exceptionally well when it comes to Prawns. The Prawn filling was plump, juicy with an addictive bouncy-bite.

真心的希望,这一档传统的炭烧瓦煲鸡饭可以继续的细水长流,不辜负始终都支持他们的饕客们。
After trying it, i feel that the Claypot Chicken Rice here is just average but the porridge is good.
Ah Zhen, the delicious Hokkien Mee stall, and also Ah Siang of prawn fritters stall are now serving mantis prawns add-on. The Hokkien Mee is served with mantis prawns blended in with the Hokkien Mee soup. As for the Fresh Mantis Prawns Fritters, this is a real great deal at affordable prices for all mantis prawn lovers.
This stall is selling flavourful and delicious Hokkien & Curry Mee. The signature of this stall is the roast pork that very crispy and tender at the same time and packed with slight savory. This is one of the must add-on for the order. Both the Hokkien Mee and Curry Mee taste so good that they are finishing fast. In order to avoid disappointment, dinners are advised to go earlier.
Tong Yie Chicken Rice stall is one of the stalls in Tong Yie Coffee Shop (統一茶室) that is located at Taman Baiduri, Butterworth. This stall sells classic and pleasant chicken rice. The highlights are the rice that is packed with sesame oil and ginger also the home mixed chili sauce that is packed with lime citruses and ginger aroma.
The restaurant ambient - Big Space, Cooling Environment, China History Wording Decoration.
What I really like about this place is, 1) Simple Unpretentious set up, May be a bit “rough” for others 2) The Beautiful view, best view just before sunset. 3) The Unpretentious and Simple food, not overly decorated.
Wok Baked Crabs, Juicy! serve with a hammer
this is one of the famous restaurant here
Little Spicy Noodle House Raja Uda 小红面屋 - The berry drink is excellence!! I like it very much....
The signature Japanese Mazesoba may seem small in serving but the noodle dish packed great flavors. The home-made noodles possessed a springy texture and topped with various ingredients like minced Meat, Spring Onions, Japanese Long Onion, Seaweed and raw Garlic. The accompanying sauce has an Umami flavor... similar like the Japanese-style noodles. The interesting part of this noodle dish... it comes with small White Rice (Japanese-style Pearl Rice). The usage of the Rice was to mop up all the leftover sauces after the noodles were consumed. The trick- to add a dash of specially concocted Vinegar for the extra spicy-sour experience. This was a dish we thoroughly enjoyed.
Dish that stood out for me was the Stir Fried Egg Plant, Steam Egg and the Beancurd. All this plus a stout came up to RM280 for about 12 of us, 6 adults, 6 children.
This is a good one...a real local Butterworth Cuisine.
The name "Ko Cha Mee" brings evocative images as one would be able to link that to the delicacies we used to enjoy during earlier days. Housed in one of the corner business lots at Raja Uda, Ko Cha Mee is a noodle specialist that offers something similar to "Lam-Mee". For the uninitiated, Lam Mee is closely linked to Nyonya families and often served during birthday celebrations as the dish signifies longevity; the flavorful broth is usually cooked with Prawns and Pork Ribs/ Chicken, complemented by a dash of home-made Sambal Belacan. Ko Cha Mee offers such a platform to savor the flavors of the past, but if you are looking for a variety, this is not a place for you as the small menu only specializes in noodles (with optional add-ons). Albeit the catchy name, we did not find the food outstanding nor worth the distance to travel all the way to Raja Uda; probably a regular Lam Mee in the neighborhood is on par with theirs.
For me - the taste is quite similar like Chinese Birthday Noodle (寿面).
据说这家餐馆是没使用任何味精的咧!而且是主打古早味,连 #面包都是碳烧的哟!还有#半熟蛋,#温泉蛋。
