The ingredient serve here is fresh, good quality and the soup gives you the authentic Sichuan taste. There are also some small bites food apart from the hotpot where you can just munch on it while waiting for your hotpot food to be cooked.
Definitely a great hotpot experience, especially if you’re coming in a big bunch, the more the merrier.
Here's the location.
I like their Sesame Oil Mee Suah and there is only one choice of drinks to choose from which is their Cincau Ice.
The signature Sesame Oil Chicken Soup Mee Suah was reasonably seasoned and the Mee Suah was silky smooth but the lack of bold Sesame Oil flavor and Ginger-aroma left us underwhelmed. We thought they could be bolder to bring out better flavors. They could be more generous with the Chicken either, or merely they were cut into small pieces and the texture was less-satisfying
I won't hessiate to come back here for the 3rd time for its night session where other hawkers stalls opens up for dinner time.
The restaurant offers a decent range of Chinese seafood-based dishes, and even Bak Kut Teh! Bitter Gourd with Egg is another popular dish, a must try here.
Pan Fried Abalone Mushroom in Sauce which serves in big quantity with succulent abalone mushroom. We love how the chef maintained a semi-crisp abalone mushroom texture, which shows not over fried that might cause the mushrooms lose the nutrients
Most Malaysians can relate their diets with Soup as most of us growing up associating with Soup so when the proud Malaysian brand- Souper Tang (汤师傅) opened a new branch at Gurney Plaza, we were not surprised to see the long queue of curious gourmands scouting the new restaurant. Souper Tang is known to offer invigorating Chinese double boiled Soups that are believed to bring medicinal health benefits and a variety of wholesome Chinese dishes. Price points are high and the service staff lacked proper training so the waiting time can be rather long. Souper Tang is just opposite to Canton-I at 1st floor of Gurney Plaza.
One of the must order here is their Xiao Long Bao. It is available in a either 6 or 12 pieces in a bamboo steamer, with a variation of filling you can choose from. Although these xiao long bao looks tiny, it exhibits such a high degree of finesse - thin skin, delicate pork filling along with sweet broth upon puncturing the skin. Furthermore, the crew will expertly mix the condiments which comprises of soy sauce, vinegar and a few fine slices of ginger to give these xiao long bao a refreshing and balancing taste.
The design and decoration is look good.
For those who prefers a milder petai taste, the Petai Home Made Tofu (RM 12.90) is the perfect choice. The tofu is deep fried to possess a thin crisp skin and maintaining fluffy texture inside. It made a great combination along the petai with a slight heat component from the sambal.
So wait no more, head over to Wai Po Jia Granny's Cottage 外婆家 and be pampered with all the scrumptious cuisines and flavours they have in store for you.
I am definitely adding Go Noodles House to my favorite place to eat list, haha !
An exceptionally popular and fairly casual noodle-specialist hailed from central Malaysia has recently expanded its business operations to Penand and has finally swung opened its doors to the public. Go Noodle House's first Penang branch is strategically located in Gurney Plaza (7th floor/ opposite to SenQ). Beelines of long queues have been spotted for the past few days. The brand has gained strong reputation in terms of quality and wallet-friendly price tags. Go Noodle House is also famed for its signature clear-soup noodles, finished with Chinese Wine. The no-frills restaurant offers a simple home-styled cooking menu that features two types of noodle dishes- Clear Soup and Pan Mee (available from Rm 9.90). We were certainly impressed with the food quality, but we thought their service level could be further improved (or perhaps, the restaurant is still new and the staff lacked of experience and training).
For something more solid, give Triple Star Hainanese Chicken Rice a go. The Chicken is available in 2 different variants- poached or roasted; both are equally delicious and best served over the Chicken Rice seasoned rice.
Golden Salted Egg Chicken Claypot – RM17.90, following the craze of salted egg yolk in town, Awa’s version is to marinate salted egg yolk with chicken pieces and cooked with some curry leaves. For salted egg lovers like myself this is the side dish that you should not miss out. The seduction of salted egg yolk fragrance and the guilty pleasure really made me drooling again just by thinking of this dish.
The Hong Kong-styled Beef Brisket Dried Noodles on the other hand, was pretty similar to those in Hong Kong. The sauce was somewhat like "Lou Sui" sauce (the sauce used to braise the meat) and the texture of the noodles was great.
One of the item in the menu that immediately caught my attention was Noodle with Hong Kong Roasted Goose (香港烧鹅鸡米线; RM 32.80). Considering the price tag, it is definitely a luxury version of noodle but worth the penny. The goose has crispy skin and tender meat, along with a layer of nice fat beneath the skin that gives a wonderful aroma. Coupled with the signature Cantonese-style rice vermicelli and a sweet broth, the noodle is a luxury food to indulge in.
The foods serving at Idealite are also suitable for vegan as there are no meats selling here.
ツ [EN|中] London Duck (伦敦烤鸭) is a Cantonese restaurant that famous with the roasted duck.
We had a Crispy Aromatic Duck with Pancakes (Half Chicken, RM 44.80). The portion best to be shared among 2-4 people, and the service crew will help to cut the duck into small pieces upon serving the plate to your table. Cucumber slices and pancake wrap are provided. The taste of the duck is absolutely flavorful. Seasoning is nice, and the roasting give it a gleamingly crispy skin and juicy meat. Conventionally, duck has a strong odour but this type of unpleasant smell is totally absent. When we have it with the wrapped skin with cucumber slices and sauces, the flavour of the duck is slightly tuned down to a moderate but it does have more texture and layering though. Personally, we preferred to have the duck by adding some sauces without addition of the wrap, and there comes the thorough enjoyment of the duck meat. Absolutely delicious!
The Roast Meat with Noodles and Wan Ton Noodles on the other hand, were delicious.... springy noodles served with luscious barbecued Meat; a combination that speaks for itself. The Soy sauce was sweet and delectable while the meat was juicy-tender. The Dumplings were not shabby either; each completed with a huge piece of Shrimp in it.
I love the Salted Egg Custard Bun too, it is nice to bite into the Bun and have all the Salted Egg Custard oozing out from it, haha !
Here offer two type of Bah Kut Teh, soup and dried. Personally i recommend Dried Bah Kut Teh but if you have more than 3 person, i would recommend to order both. Both has it unique taste and flavor. Soup Bah Kut Teh can taste the fragrance and delicious of pork soup and herbal taste while the dried Bak Kut Teh can taste the sticky and spicy sauce. Both are equally good.
The overall Mala combo was quite good, the seasoning was spot on and the fragrance was irresistible. Their noodle dishes were not shabby either- bouncy noodles served in savory-sweet sauce.
Overall, the taste of the Supreme Hotpot was very hot and spicy, although it was only level 1. This is dedicated to those who love Sichuan-style hot and spicy food. The ingredients given were nevertheless fresh and good quality. Currently there are 2 branches in Penang conveniently located in Queensbay Mall and Gurney Plaza.
Lotus Root Soup with Peanut (RM 20.80) The verdict on the soup? It was nice! We enjoyed the depth of the flavour, possibly due to long hours simmering and a significant flavour contributed by the peanuts and chickens. Both of us finish two full pots of the soup without any sense of getting bored of it.
Buddha Jump Over The Wall was a show-stopper; the soup carried an in-depth yet subtle flavor which fully accentuated from the dried seafood... every sip contained a bold umami flavor. Ingredients found in the soup were Fish Maw, dried Shitake Mushrooms, Chicken and Abalone slices.
Zealand Bak Kut Teh & Seafood Restaurant (新西蘭) is one of the many good places to have a meal of bak kut teh (pork ribs soup) in Penang. A drive along Gurney Drive will lead you to the non-air conditioned restaurant which serves not only bak kut teh but also seafood (chu char) delights.
