Checking out New Lucky Claypot Rice 新鸿运瓦煲饭which was listed in the Michelin guide. The chicken claypot rice was cooked to order, thus there was a long wait.
New Lucky Claypot Rice at Holland Village serves a mean claypot, but avoid the soups.
The dining frenzy passed quickly and everything quietened down around 8pm when the wave of customers finished their dinner.
The Aburi Mala Charshu Kombu Noodles was recommended by Small Potatoes Make The Steak Look Bigger. The noodles tasted like normal thicker springy noodles, and the charshu was sweet and very lightly numbing spicy, with a bit of bite.
While spicy food like this is not often my ideal choice of food selection, it will be unlikely that I will be back again for it.
At last I have tried this. Nothing earth shattering, but good hearty spicy tofu with just a bit of bite, and qq, savoury and spicy dan dan noodles.
Margaret Drive Sin Kee Chicken Rice, one of the top chicken rice stalls from the Hawkers.
The rice was I thought the gold standard of chicken rice – moist, oily, flavourful and fragrant with chicken stock and oil, garlic, onions and lemongrass etc.
Sin Kee is a well-known name among chicken rice stalls in Singapore, mainly serving poached chicken rice Cantonese-style.
The time-limit was good to prevent us from over-ordering and over-eating.
Fans of the ramen place can rejoice because they have launched a Hearty Shrimp broth made from big prawns baked, hand ground till fine and simmered for more than eight hours with premium conpoy, clams and spices for more oomph.
Enjoying the food with a group of friends at Beauty In The Pot at The Star Vista is surely a good way to end the work week and especially for supper.
Authentic Taiwanese Food that worth the calories.
I will be back again to try their Sautéed Beef Cube with garlic and others.
Nevertheless, it looks so good so I’ll be popping by again on a treat-myself day!
Monki 台灣小吃部 was previously at Holland Village and they have relocated to The Star Vista. Perhaps due to the restrictions in travelling, the urge and the constant search for Taiwanese Food seem unstoppable.
Very complex, tasty, moist and generous braised meat, with a strong sweet flavour. 肥瘦参半的肉燥. Nice bowl.
While this place serves up a mean plate of lu rou fan, its portion would have me think twice about coming back for it. That being said, the snowflake desserts are worth trying.
The Hor Fun was well fried with strong aroma of wok hei. The brown sauce provided contrasting flavours that alternated between smokey and caramelised flavours.
HEAR:Click to listen/ download podcast of this week’s gravy-smothered, wok-fired episode! SEE: Hi Makan Kakis, Talking Point’s Steven Chia is back with another recommendation and this time it…
In a nutshell, Hin’s Hor Fun is a heaven for those of you who love hor fun. I’d recommend the beef mui fan and/or hor fun if you’re able to consume beef, if not the fish gravy is not too bad too!
Exploring the West today! Hong Kee Porridge 鸿记粥, nestled within the charming Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre, boasts over 50 years of serving up heartwarming bowls of porridge to generations of satisfied customers.
Hong Kee Porridge is a good reminiscent of home-cooked porridge that brings back the old taste.
I enjoyed that homely taste, it is a good choice for breakfast or a light lunch.
Tong Kee Chicken Rice has moved to the new Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. Be prepared to queue for their popular roast chicken!
The roast pork and char siew are generally nothing to write home about.
I am rather disappointed with their rice. I am not sure if this is a one-off mishap or this is exactly how they want their rice to be? If so, then I am not too big a fan of it.
Fatty Ipoh Noodles Spawned just last May within Pasir Panjang Food Centre, rather new kid on the block Fatty Ipoh Noodles (a poky ...
This hor fun presented an interesting contrast in textures not seen elsewhere with the crispy hor fun on top. The generous pork lard was very crispy and fragrant, and the sauce was really smooth and eggy. The accompanying ingredients – fishcake, sliced pork, sliced fish and chicken prawns – were ok and quite competent. Overall quite nice – comfort food I will go back for.
Fatty Ipoh Fried Noodles is a definite hidden gem in Pasir Panjang. Most of their dishes are priced at $5, making it an absolute steal! Read more.
A good mix of food items that go well with steamed rice. The medium was adequate for two persons. We think it is a nice dish to try once in a while and is a good break from the usual hawker food dishes.
The dish is indeed unique on its own and maybe pricy as it seems but the taste and quality of standards say it all. There will be a second visit from me definitely.
Exclusively available online, they deliver island-wide to your doorstep. You can store them frozen for 3-6 months!
Really quite tasty, fresh and affordable dim sum.
Two of Singapore’s finest Hawker Centre Dim Sum - Five Star Hong Kong Dim Sum Mei Ling Street vs Neptune Hong Kong Tim Sum Marine Parade
Good quality dim sum, with the siew mai springy and fresh and having nice contrasting textures, and the chee cheong fan silky smooth outside and crispy and springy inside.
The rice was very light though, not oily or flavourful enough I thought. I had to add some of that superbly potent, spicy and slightly bitter chilli to the rice, to add flavour. Been wanting to try this for some time, since it had always been a wonder to me that a business had been named after my primary school mate’s name. The stallowners were friendly enough, despite what I have heard.
I wouldn't mind eating at Henry's. But I won't miss it if I never had a chance again. That's how it was.
Roasted chicken with a really good chilli sauce and soy sauce dressing that brings back memories!
If you are a cockles lover, this plate of CKT might disappoint you. Not only that their cockles are tiny, but they also do not allow adding of cockles too.
It was a special joy as I had been waiting to taste this CKT again for a very long time, one of Singapore's most famous fried kway teow.
I will definitely eat this again when I swing by the hawker centre with my family.
There was something else that seemed missing. Can't put a finger to what that might have been but I think I like the fishball noodles better.
Fishballs were nice as well.
Over at Ru Ji Kitchen Holland Drive, take note there are two long lines – the one on the left sells Fishball Noodles, the other Bak Chor Mee.
The ten person queue moved really quite leisurely; I got my food only after thirty minutes. The kway was really soft, silky and smooth, coming in a nice sweet savoury braising stock.
Braised Duck & Kway Chap in Holland Drive Market and Food Center is definitely worth the queue. I consider this as the best I had over the years.
Their braised duck is tender and richly-flavoured. If you come towards the latter part of the day, it is possible for the duck to run out.
Though Holland Village XO Fish Head Bee Hoon is most renowned for its XO Fish Head Bee Hoon, their San Lou Horfun is also excellent. This was right in the middle of Buona Vista and Dover MRT station.
Holland Village XO Fish Head Bee Hoon (Dover)
Frankly many people have said that the standard has dropped over the years. Even so, I think it is still a decent bowl of fish bee hoon soup. It is still my to go place if I am craving for a bowl of the warm and comforting fish soup.
The bowl of delicious herbal soup is slightly bitter from the herbs but still enjoyable. I wished it is served hotter and filled to the brim.
Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck is easily one of the best braised duck rice in Singapore for me.
While it may not be the best-best in Singapore, if you are hankering for duck rice that is cheap and good, Chuan Kee is worth the venture to.
With Tanglin Halt undergoing the Selective En Block Redevelopment Scheme, our laksa hawker might just retire when the time comes for the market to be demolished!
For me, this is a rather disappointing bowl of laksa hence I am bewildered by its popularity.
i like weiyi laksa 唯一辣沙 particularly because it is lemak but not very lemak (& sweet) like katong laksa.
Overall, I enjoyed the meal at Wok Palace as most of the a la carte dishes were very on point in their flavours and texture.
Wok Palace offers lavish tze char (煮炒) dining in a comfortable setting and originates from Wok Master and Coffee Hive family.
I feel Wok Palace is an exciting addition to our local Chinese restaurant establishments, given its background and the years they took to reach this stage.
