西班牙猪大排 Spanish Iberico Ribs – RM14/100g Iberico pork, also known as black pigs are imported from Spain and it feeds naturally on oak tree acorns. The texture of the meat will be a bit chewy indeed. The well marination of the meat with the herbs and sauces gave this dish an aromatic and delicious feel.

Hong Kong Style Seafood Congee (港式海鲜艇仔粥; RM 388/10 pax) is one of the dish that demonstrated the shrewdness of food preparation. The soup is double boiled for long hours with pork ribs to harness its essence prior cooking with seafood, and resulted in a final product with sleek sensation of the seafood. It hits the quality of not being overly stout with seafood taste.

The popiah is the best I've tasted in Penang - tasty with a good balance of fillings. The chilli paste actually makes a presence so there's an oomph to the popiah! I'm not used to the soggy-ness of the popiah but the taste and texture was good enough for me to completely disregard it.

None of the delicate Cantonese delicacies disappoint at Grand Imperial but their Siew Mai left us with the deepest impression. Sliced Meat was used in the Pork Dumplings... in lieu of the skimp-conventional Minced Meat. The texture was great- firm with a meaty bite, even better with the addition of crunchy Shrimp. Equally delicious was their Lau Sha Bao, though in dainty portion; the filling was nicely done. It possessed a gritty texture with mellow Salty-essence and expertly sweetened. Dim Sum dishes were above par but the wait was a little long; worth a visit nevertheless.

Both Hua Diao Marinated Pork Belly Rice (RM 8.90) and Hakka Style Braised Pork Rice (RM 8.90) are truly meant for carnivorous person. When the bowl of rice is served in front of you, you can practically see the glittering surface of the pork glazed by the rich sauces. On top of that, you can see there are generous quantity of pork belly served for each portion.

Noodles are deeply rooted in our culinary consciousness, there is no one size fits all. There are a lot of varieties on offer and they can come in different size, color, shape, texture as well as flavor. Typically, Pan Mee (a type of Hakka Noodles) is served in the shape of thin, round and smooth texture but Ah Ma Pan Mee, a newly opened Pan Mee specialist at 4th Street Club (Tye Sin Street) decides to do things differently. Using traditional recipe from Pahang, the noodle joint offers Pan Mee in its own style. While the soup bases and condiments are similar, the noodles stand out. They come in irregularly fat-round shape with al-dente (slightly chewy and bouncy) texture. The menu is not big but the air-conditioned restaurant offers a comfortable dining space for hungry diners to have a quick fix; definitely a place where fans of Pan Mee should check out.

Small bowl at RM 3.80 is really a good bargain. Filled with classic ingredients such as chicken feet, pig skin, pig intestine, herbal egg, special home blend garlic vinegar sauce and also chili paste. Love the starchy soup base with a bit of saltiness and sweetness to my liking as the amount of vinegar garlic is just nice and could be better if slightly stronger.

The gravy is definitely the one that makes Kim Leng loh mee unique. The thick gravy is flavourful and gives a bit hint of sweetness. It is very inviting. Next, KayaButter love its braised eggs, very well marinated. You can add extra ingredients as you like such as the chicken legs, braised eggs, meats and internal organs. Internal organs are not KayaButter’s favourite, so we ask them to exclude that in our loh mee. Oh ya, the loh mee also comes with pork’s skin.

Sabah Tomyam (RM 14.90) with fried fish. We are not sure whether this is the real version of Sabah Tomyam or not, as my few years experience in Sabah tells me otherwise. However, setting aside the arguement, the tomyam is great in taste, having a little bit milky taste with a mild spiciness. What we appreciate is the fried fish is served separately from the tomyam soup to prevent it become soggy after being "flooded" with the soup. An excellent choice for a chill night. You may choose the preferred type of noodles for the tomyam.
