Chinese-Japanese: Local Chinese Staples with a Delightful Modern Twist
As I am refraining from deep fried food due to a dry throat, I chose the safest option which is chicken with rice at MYR 16.90 nett. The rice portion is just a bit too much for me but I managed to finish all. The rice was not enough for my friends who ordered another rice dish.
Verdict: Good food good portion, wallet friendly and comfortable dining environment, certainly love to make a return if I need simple comfort food like these.

My Personal Opinion
I don't think I've come across any kuey teow th'ng in KL that offers pork intestines and coagulated blood as an option. I've only had it with shredded chicken, fish balls and fish cake so far. I read that this is an authentic version of Penang kuey teow th'ng though there's also another version that comes with duck meat and duck blood too it seems.
If you like a good kuey teow soup, this is a contender.....innards or not! ^.^
Better to get a seat in-side the kopitiam near the Tea-preparation area away from the stalls as all the hot air from the dozen or so stalls get cooped-up around the "outdoor" seating area, with fans seems to blowing from all directions.

Fancy a quick bowl of melt in mouth charsiew for lunch? C'mon over to The Toast & Roast Char Siew place in SS2, Petaling Jaya from 8.30am - 4.00pm!
If you like slightly sweet savory perhaps caramelized juicy tender Charsiew, then SS2's "Toast & Roast" will be a perfect alternative.
Yessss, the char siew here was utterly yummy. Sweet and succulent, tender and juicy. Notice the size of each piece? Yea, the pieces of char siew here are large.
You may have to spend around RM20 per pax for a meal here if you order their char siew separately by portion sizes. If you find the prices too steep, then go for a more reasonably priced plate of char siew rice.
Though this place has been around for 7 years now, I don't know if the standard is still the same as when they first started (since this is my first visit) but it definitely has a place (in my books) among some of the top-notch char siew I've had over the years.
We tend to eat at the same places or close to where we live and I'm only discovering some of these places since I started blogging about my food experiences among others. I guess I should have come sooner but better late than never, right? It'll be interesting to see what's in store at their new place.....new additions to the menu perhaps? I shall return! ^_^

Restoran Teow Chew Meng is a restaurant selling their specialty's " Sharkfin Mee Sua Tow " .
Seafood fried rice (RM12 – one portion). Good portion, generous amount of seafood (shrimps, crab meat sticks), nice wokhei.
Stir Fried Lai Fun with seafood (prawns, squid, mini scallops) for MYR 12
The Lai Fun is the default type of noodle used for Assam Laksa). The noodles are a bit springy so I need to chew for a long time carefully. I kept more than half of this dish for my friend as the portion is too much for me.
The restaurant does not offer a big menu list of choices and I think it is perhaps a good thing that they offer what they do best.

Verdict: A worthy addition of pork noodle place other than our usual one but I really hope that they can solve the unpleasant odour problem before my next visit.
Every thing was good except the soup base was a little too salty to my liking.
My order - dry horfun mee hoon at MYR 8.50 nett. There are pork slices the bowl of soup. Quite a decent pork noodles.

We went to Prosperity Bowl, SS2, PJ for lunch again and this time I ordered just a bowl of curry chicken (small) at MYR 7.50 nett from the ala carte menu. I have to say that I got hungry very fast after this so next time, I need to order more than this small bowl of curry chicken which contains 2 pieces of chicken and 2 pieces of potatoes.
The Restoran offers an array of choices: charsiew, fish/pork balls, chicken feet, chicken innards, steam beancurd (which looks interesting), and curry chicken; in either noodles, or rice option.
Prosperity Bowl's poached Free Range Chicken was tender with gelatinous-smooth skin... served over a luscious Soy sauce and home-made Chili sauce; while the barbecued Pork carried an indelible sweetness with pockets of fats. A surprise factor, the blanched Bean Sprouts were unusually crunchy and juicy, almost akin to those found in Ipoh... makes a great addition the variety nevertheless. Diners have the option to choose between Rice and Koay Teow (Porridge is also available).

Ask anyone who stays in the neighborhood of SS2 (Petaling Jaya) for an inexpensive, quick and comfortable place for Zhu Char (Chinese Stir Fry dishes), New Paris Restaurant is probably one of the names most mentioned. The long-established Chinese home-styled restaurant has been there for long and has since, earned its reputation for being one of the best Chinese restaurants around. Nestled within the housing area, the restaurant occupies 3 units with a huge signage can be easily spotted from far. The place is huge and could easily accommodate diners in large groups, air-conditioned seats are available too. The Cantonese-styled menu is large and reasonably priced (in the context of Klang Valley's living standards).

The shop offers a good variety of Chinese food from 飯粥面 Rice, Porridge and Noodles dishes, varieties of 蒸點和炸點 Steam and Fried Snacks, as well as 糖水 Tong Shui (traditional and contemporary desserts).
Being a dessert hot spot, and surprisingly, a very popular date spot too, KTZ gets very busy after dinner hours.
This place had been open for business for quite a long while, still going strong with the midnight supper crowd. Taste wise still pretty good.

Likes: Some dishes are edible. eg. sour vegetables, minced pork and petai. Just choose the easy to fry dishes where you can get in most tai chow/chap fan places; those are totally safe choices. Don't try to be too adventurous...
Dislikes: The rest of the food are all tai chow standards. Unauthentic Hakka food, use corn flour in practically almost every dish that requires gravy. Be prepared to be served by Hokkiens instead of Hakkas.
Overall, it was a perfect dinner for us. It is my first time trying out Hakka Cuisine and I have fallen in love with it. What I love about the food is that its clear, simple and flavourful. Any recommendation for any other Hakka Cuisine? Do let me know. I would love to drop by to try it. It is a nightmare to get a car parking in that area and double parking is common at night.
It feels like home when dining here. Good food. Reasonable pricing. I can’t wait to go back to try more dishes!

Tang Room showcases new creations and popular favorites of the group. Among the exciting new inspirations are Crispy Okinawan Sweet Potato with White Truffle, Platter of Chilled Jelly Chicken, Abalone, Black Squid Ink Ball & Baked Crab Meat; and Steamed Ocean Garoupa with Fresh Abalone & Squid Ball in Superior Soya Sauce. An excellent range of Dim Sum is available during lunch.
Verdict: Prices are slightly on higher side but considering the comfy dining environment and sufficiently good food (though a bit of hiccup on the service), revisit is on the cards.
Fried Noodle was superb. It has a good smoky flavour that we enjoyed it.

This was potentially the winner of the day!
Innovative fusion dish that proves the chefs could do more than just traditional chinese cuisine.
Delicious on its own, the creamy foie gras made a wonderful pair with the crunchy toast underneath.

I personally enjoyed the dim sum here on 22.01.2019, and subsequently 09.08.2019 to sample the Roasted duck Wanton Mee and Dumpling soup!
I got mine with roast duck. The meat was nice and tender, albeit a little lean (I think what makes duck tasty is the fatty layer under the skin!). As for the noodles, they were al dente and the soy sauce flavouring was just right (not too salty).
So the two of us just ate these - Lo Mai Kai MYR 5.50 nett, Egg Tart MYR 4.20 nett (for 1 portion of 2 tarts) and one bowl of sui gao dumplings soup (5 dumplings) at MYR 6.80 nett (without noodles). They taste decent enough so we don't mind eating here again if there are nothing else we wish to eat in this area.

My lunch: Salted Egg Yolk Chicken with (Small portion) Rice at MYR 8.50 nett. I kept half for dinner. The deep fried curry leaves enhanced the fragrance of the salted egg yolk. The pieces of chicken are coated with a thin layer of batter and deep fried until very crispy. A very tasty dish which I will definitely order again.

So I went for a large plate of shrimp chee cheong fun (RM7). The dish did not disappoint, as the slightly translucent rolls had a nice, chewy texture to them, and the sambal had a definite kick. I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve ever tasted coz the sauce was a little too oily + the shrimps were small, but it was tasty nonetheless. I’d rate it an 8/10!
It has been a while since I last ate "mixed rice" ( 杂饭 or 什饭) for lunch.

As a first-timer in Smart Kitchen (超人气), we ordered the “Super Deal Set A” RM18.80 which consists of – Hot & Spicy Soup with Australian Beef Noodles (台中麻辣肥牛面) (can choose any from: fine egg noodles, thick egg noodles, and smart noodles), Deep Fried Turnip Balls (五香沙葛炸丸) and a cup of FREE beverage.
We are astounded with the outcome which turns out to be super delicious – hot & spicy noodles have a very thick and fragrant buttery-garlic broth, not spicy at all and taste heavenly good while slurping with smooth semi-raw sirloin beef slices (feels like having beef sashimi dipping with some butter garlic sauce), personally would recommend this dish and is a must try! 😉

It was a perfect dinner for us. Delicious and spicy meal, we even ordered an additional Soy Bean drink as the Tom Yum Soup was very spicy which I like. I love spicy Tom Yum Soup!! I never thought that there will be a restaurant in Damansara Utama that will be selling a delicious Tom Yum Noodle (A little hidden gem for me).

My Personal Opinion
Since this is such an old name specialising in Ipoh sar hor fun, perhaps the standard isn't as good as they were back then. Nothing from the hor fun to the soup base to the prawn wontons to the poached chicken I cared for really. The environment of an old and dated shop with a slightly dark and not-so-clean interior didn't help it one bit.

My choice for lunch is the Pork Noodle soup version (dry version also available), the Soup/Broth is pork bone based, not salty. The bowl comes with pork lard + fried garlics, pork meat, and few types of pig innards. Generally, its not too bad.

The fried rice tasted good. Besides the rice, the dish also came with minced pork, eggs, prawns, scallion, peas. I liked that it was not mostly rice with a small portion of the other items. Nope, here it seemed like almost an equal portion. Every spoonful is bound to have a mix of items. Yummm.
