Wong Kok Char Chan Teng - SS2 旺角茶餐厅 Restaurant

2, Ground Floor, Wisma Caesars Club Jalan SS2/67 47300 Petaling Jaya

Since 2003, Wong Kok Char Chan Teng has brought in a new trademark of Hong Kong great cuisine into Malaysia. As a joint for all sorts of Hong Kong famous food and treats, Wong Kok Char Chan Teng is well accepted by residents here and it has emerged as a new trend of great cuisine. It definitely a satisfaction act: "To Taste Hong Kong, Taste in Wong Kok."

I just select my most no-brainer instant noodles from the ala carte menu - Nissin Noodles Beef Slices at MYR 11.30++ (10% service charge and 6% SST = MYR 13.10 nett). The broth has too strong a sesame smell for me and there is a tinge of sourish taste to the beef slices so I think the next time my friends eat here, I will have to select nissin noodles with other ingredients such as pork chop instead of beef

Personal Opinion If you want variety, you've certainly come to the right place....just not everything is good though. I've only scratched the surface of what the many stalls here offer. I guess I'll have to work through the many stalls here to see which ones I like. For now, I'm pretty happy with this surprisingly worthy find of a good Penang Hokkien (aka Prawn) Mee while the Mee Jawa would be my other choice.

My Personal Opinion Still more than a decent place for roasted meats with a few crowd-pleasing side snacks, crispy or otherwise. Best choice will be the char siew followed by the poached or fried chicken and siew yuk in that order...hehe! ;) The texture of the wantan noodles, which are thinner than the norm, tends to be a bit on the soft side (I don't remember them being this soft previously). Either that or they were overcooked. So, if you don't like soft noodles, have your roasted meats with rice instead. I did enjoy their new dish of minced pork with barbecued sausages as I find the noodles of this one not as soft.

The Restoran offers an array of choices: charsiew, fish/pork balls, chicken feet, chicken innards, steam beancurd (which looks interesting), and curry chicken; in either noodles, or rice option.

Prosperity Bowl's poached Free Range Chicken was tender with gelatinous-smooth skin... served over a luscious Soy sauce and home-made Chili sauce; while the barbecued Pork carried an indelible sweetness with pockets of fats. A surprise factor, the blanched Bean Sprouts were unusually crunchy and juicy, almost akin to those found in Ipoh... makes a great addition the variety nevertheless. Diners have the option to choose between Rice and Koay Teow (Porridge is also available).

Ask anyone who stays in the neighborhood of SS2 (Petaling Jaya) for an inexpensive, quick and comfortable place for Zhu Char (Chinese Stir Fry dishes), New Paris Restaurant is probably one of the names most mentioned. The long-established Chinese home-styled restaurant has been there for long and has since, earned its reputation for being one of the best Chinese restaurants around. Nestled within the housing area, the restaurant occupies 3 units with a huge signage can be easily spotted from far. The place is huge and could easily accommodate diners in large groups, air-conditioned seats are available too. The Cantonese-styled menu is large and reasonably priced (in the context of Klang Valley's living standards).

Previously I selected Fried Wanton to find that it has dubious mushy fillings and Lemongrass Pork chop. The latter is a winner so I chose that again and tried an item that I have not eaten before - fried fish fillet (炸鱼柳 - zhá yú liǔ). Lim Mee Yoke’s much talked about Penang-style prawn mee deserves every single good review it receives. The soup is robust, full of prawn flavor and more importantly does not taste like it was sweetened with sugar. The additional toppings are worth the money paid too considering the pork ribs and prawn slices cost only an extra RM3.50 and RM2.50 respectively.

For 4.50 ringgit, once everything is mixed up, it resembled the amount you would get if you ordered a Large plate elsewhere. It sure is cheap. I can literally spend under 10 ringgit here and be full, just order myself a plate of cheong fun + 3 yong tau foo items and I am sure it can last me till dinner. The fried rice tasted good. Besides the rice, the dish also came with minced pork, eggs, prawns, scallion, peas. I liked that it was not mostly rice with a small portion of the other items. Nope, here it seemed like almost an equal portion. Every spoonful is bound to have a mix of items. Yummm.
