A food blog from a Singapore-based traveler
Overall, I would give Merci Marcel the following rating: Food: 4/5 Space & Ambience: 5/5 Service: 4/5
Like these raclette toasts which were nice.
In conclusion, if you are keen on quality roasted meat and do not mind spending a bit more on food, Lai Fa Ba will be a good choice.
I'm impressed by the quality of meat and I will make a return for their food.
The noodles was qq and tasty with the sweet fragrant white sauce. The char siew was tender, fatty and sweet, although just lacking a bit of caramelisation. The wanton was plump, although just a bit salty. The pork lard was crispy and fragrant. Quite nice, in a simple retro themed cafe.
Fairly reasonable prices for a causal Japanese meal in Chinatown even though the location doesn’t remind me of Japanese food in the first instance.
Overall, it was a unique yakitori experience at Kakurega.
Ambience at Kakurega (The Lair) carries an understated charm. Cozy, rustic, and intimate, the 3-story bar features 4 private rooms, with carefully partitioned open seating areas that manage to feel like private dining. Pops of colour from vibrant paintings and colourful Japanese fans adorn the sleek black walls, while sturdy wooden tables and comfortable booth seats are illuminated by bright spotlights overhead.

The seatings are a bit limited which may be a disadvantage. Other than that, I will say the fish and chips are better than average but not to die for.
It was unfortunately disappointing.
Overall, it was nice to be back at Wine Mansion Keong Saik. The dishes from the new menu are very delicious and well-executed.
Overall, we enjoyed dining at The Wine Mansion very much, and hope to be back again soon.
Even with social distancing in place, I think there’s ample space to indulge in some wine & dine to ward off the ongoing pandemic gloom.
Don Ho Restaurant review - food and drinks at Keong Saik Road, Singapore with pictures of menu and Social Hour drinks list ...
Overall, Don Ho serves some mean brunch dishes, and if you go from 11.30am onwards, you can also order from their lunch menu, which features salads, flatbreads and some meat-based dishes. Kudos to their friendly and attentive service crew, and definitely to the pretty set-up of the cafe.
All in all, we had an enjoyable dining experience at DON HO Social Kitchen & Bar.
They were better than I was expecting, but they also weren't as briny as I prefer. Either way, they did a wonderful job with their smoked local sea bass, which was paired nicely with shaved fennel and green apple.

Their mac and cheese was delicious. Creamy and cheesy fortified by a glaze of broken house cured yolk and bits of their house cured bacon.
The Kongsee located at 10 Gemmill Ln, Singapore 069251 is about a year old at this stage and is a mecca for cocktail aficionados...
I love and support you, Willin Low, the chef-partner of Kongsee, but I gotta tell the truth: the mod-sin cuisine is disappointing. I can’t be sure because I didn’t ask, this is not a fact, it’s a guess: That pizza tasted like a factory made prata with toppings. My friend and I quit the place after a few dishes and drinks and went to a hawker centre.
The Place The name Kongsee has two meanings. The first being “company”, as in a commercial business, in Hokkien – a Chinese dialect. Second, it also refers “to share” in Malay. With these, you can …
We love that their grub, in particular the sandwiches and beef pie, are consistently delicious, hearty, and unpretentious.
The espresso for their affogato was thick, bitter but not so aromatic as coffees go. So it kinda works with the ice cream but doesn't quite work for me as a coffee.
A great and fun brunch experience if you are looking for something other than the typical café fares. Expect robust flavours for the modern Indian dishes, in a beautiful cinematic setting no less.
Come to Firangi for a modern take and twist on Indian cuisine, and indulge in the cinematic dining setting which feels out of the world.
Nixta Mexican Grill and Bar: experience the vibrant flavours of Mexico in Singapore. Indulge in a diverse menu featuring tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, prepared with fresh ingredients and a deep reverence for Mexican culture. Make a reservation online or through SevenRooms for an unforgettable din…
Service was pretty good, and we liked that the servers took time to briefly run through the dishes whenever they were served.
Love a smokehouse, something that’s lacking in Singapore. Wouldn’t mind if Thirty Six goes full swing into a food menu of that of a smokehouse, minus the beer bites.
All in all, there are some hits and misses but I would return for their crab meat pasta.
Mozza Restaurant and Bar Review by Chubby Botak Koala, Mozza Italian Centric Restaurant, Italian Char-grilled Singapore, 48 hours fermented pizza,
The service was also great. We were served by a white man (Australian?), who introduced the dishes to us as he served them. That is the proper etiquette, but a pity not many fine dining restaurants do it these days because of their untrained staff.
The food impresses me at Club Street Wine Room, as it is easy for a wine bar concept to overlook on its food quality. Lovely shophouse space, and I am keen to return for dinner next time as the ambience should be quite charming in the evening. I am eying that Aged T-bone 500g beef next.
Tried their laksa pizza. The rempah was a little weak.
Alegria Singapore located at 8 Teck Lim Rd offering Filipino and Latin American fusion, Ceviche, Pao De Quiejo, Elote, Bistecca, Pulpo, Sisig
Alegria Singapore is some of the best food on Tek Lim Road, ex-neighbour to Burnt Ends, offering Filipino and Latin American fusion
The atmosphere here was perfect. This place just might have outranked every other bar I been to in Singapore and I would come back here for a date night with my loved one again.
The buah keluak pizza was really quite nice, and went surprisingly well with the crispy thin pizza, with the buah keluak imparting an earthy aroma and taste together with the cheese. Nice fusion stuff.
Lionel is an artisan - at his best, his Peranakan and Eurasian dishes are among the most delicious I've tasted.
Similar to Moonstone Bar, these stores also serve up simple and unpretentious dishes, but do them brilliantly well.
We liked how the food menu is kept pretty basic here, yet being pretty refined at the same time — simple, comforting fare that works well with the drinks without being particularly exquisite or elegant, but also satisfying to the soul.
The next time you’re in the Telok Ayer area, be sure to mark this down on your list of must-visits.
