Man, the fried tenggiri fish is da bomb. Do give it a try if you haven’t already. The price of the fish varies according to the size of the fish, so if you want a bigger piece of fish, do head on over to the frying pan and choose the fish you’d want them to fry for you. This seriously is delicious. If I was not watching my calories, I would order another one. The chicken varuval was equally as yummy. Usually, you would get quite a lot of bones accompanying the meat, as in the bits and pieces that accompanies the dish on a plate, sometimes you would get meat and some times bones. The bones kindda makes up a whole piece, with no meat on it. Here though, every piece has meat on it. Yay!

Salli Ma Margi (RM 25.00). This curry dish is of Persian origin; which has a strong combination flavour of spices and herb. The chicken meat was tender with the thick gravy superbly matched with the pav that is served with this dish.

Papeta Par Edu RM 20. Moving on, there's the hearty vegetarian dish called Papeta Par Edu ~ Featuring a Parsi-style tomato onion masala dish topped beautifully with a baked sunny-side-up egg. To best complement this dish, it served with Pav, those soft fluffy buns to soak or mop up the flavoursome aromatic gravy. If you're looking for a more filling meal with some meat, add in RM 5 for chicken.

Will I be back? Well, I don’t see anything that appeals to me on the breakfast menu nor the lunch. Lunch is simply rice (or puttu /iddiyappam) with sides while dinner is just kottu again, though with choices of puttu, iddiyappam or roti. However, I don’t mind returning on a Sunday for their RM38/pax Sunday lunch buffet. I was promised authentic Sri Lankan crab curry and unlimited curries.

Paneer Burger, 14.90 ringgit This was simply because we both loveeee paneer – cottage cheese and paneer served this way, in a burger? We just had to give it a go, too curious to say no, lol. It was pretty good. The burger buns itself was crispy and a lil sweet, which complimented the paneer itself, which basically tasted as paneer usually would. Good thing that their paneer patty was not too thin or else we would not have been able to taste much. Here, it was just right. I liked this dish very much. I’d order it again too.

Ooo man, the Garlic Cheese Naan was sooo goooood! It felt like I was eating an Indian Pizza, lol. There were plenty of things I loved about this roti. One being that the roti as a whole was somewhat thick but dense, a soft texture. Secondly, there were quite a bit of cheese filling and more than a generous portion of garlic sprinkled on the top. It was really good. It was one of those dishes that I can have it in its own. I didn’t need any gravies to go with it. If you like this particular naan, then this is a must try, guys.

Kayra Restaurant

46, Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad 1 Taman Tun Dr Ismail 60000 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Kayra derives its name from keram, which means coconut palm trees in Malayalam, the language indigenous to Kerala and the birth of its name. The inspiration behind Kayra started over 65 years ago with the opening of the first Kerala Restaurant in Johor Bahru in 1949. It was a meeting place for Keralites to connect with their roots, and savour authentic Kerala cuisine. Kayra pays homage to this heritage, and serves recipes handed down through the generations, renowned for its distinct use of coconut – whether grated, roasted, or as a cooking medium. The palate-pampering dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, are freshly prepared and served everyday. Each dish is lovingly crafted and celebrates the true flavours of Kerala. We hope you love it as much as we enjoy sharing it with you.

Murgh Bombay Bohri Briyani, 50 ringgit. This was delicious yawwwwww. The rice was moist and soft + tender bits of chicken scattered all over and contrary to the usual, I did not even need to add gravy in. The moistness and softness + spices and flavor from the briyani rice was just right that there was no need to add on gravy in hopes of adding flavor. No need at all. The chicken pieces were tender and the meat almost drops of the bone. What better combination can I ask for? Yummm !

This is how their Thali set looks like and for 20 ringgit – I think it really is worth it. The set come with an option of 3 type of rice – white, parboiled and briyani, of which I opted for the latter, briyani. The rice itself was delicious, soft and moist, accompanied with cashew nuts and raisins. Then, you’d get 6 side dishes – 3 vegetables (spinach, potatoes, bittergourd), 2 gravies (sambar, sothi) and 1 portion of onion with yogurt. That is not all. Also on the plate is a cup of rasam and payasam yawwwww! + papadam. Okay, and then of a separate bowl is the chicken sambal with 1 huge, meaty chicken drumstick and green peas for garnish. It literally was like a mini food heaven – you’d get everything from starter, to main meal, to side dish and dessert. It tasted yummy. I would not change a thing except maybe for free flow of payasam? lol.
