The standard of the food is decent, and we enjoy the laidback vibe that the restaurant exudes. Don’t forget to let loose and knock a couple of sake back too! They taste better when paired with the side dishes.

Overall, Fat Cow is much better but Sushi Jin is a decent fox for it.
Overall, I really like their okonomiyaki as they reminded me of the tasty ones from Osaka with just the right flavour and texture. The server also cooked the food very well and is a pleasant sight to watch while waiting for your meal. For fans of okonomiyaki, do make a booking and try them here.
Never underestimate Japanese street food, for they can fill you up as well as a bowl of ramen can.
The mentai salmon don was really nice – the salmon was torched outside and still raw inside, with the umaminess from the mentaiko, and creaminess from what seemed to be mentaiko mayo. The ebi mango maki was I thought a bit of an odd pairing. The mango was sweet, prawn and ebiko savoury, and the mayo creamy, but I didn’t feel that it came together so well.

The rice bowls that we had were not bad, but insufficient to warrant a second visit. However, I’ll make a trip here specially for the Gyocos and a taste of their unique Japanese butter bowls.
Nevertheless, the dishes we had were undoubtedly the beginnings of the must-haves here and would hopefully be signatures to stay.
To be honest, we actually found Kyodai’s food pretty decent — both dishes were actually not too bad especially at that price — their offerings might be appealing to the students in the area, considering the stall’s proximity to Singapore Management University (SMU) and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and also the office workers in the area.

I visited District Sushi without huge expectations and true enough, the food is decent value but not memorable.
It’s a place to swing by, for sure, because there’s also a range of sashimi, nigiri sushi, and more donburi to taste.
All in all, District Sushi is a hidden gem we would highly recommend to students studying at the campuses nearby or those who are on a budget. Their value-for-money donburis and nigiri sushi sets are definitely worth a try!
Our search for good and affordable eateries led us to this discreet Japanese shop called Ichi Tei, which is located inside Sunshine Plaza. Ichi Tei’s set meals are less than S$14, which makes for a decent lunch or dinner.
