We ended the night with a triple distilled single malt scotch whisky which was matured over 12 years. Served in a tulip shaped whisky glass which concentrates the aroma of the whisky to our noses (& enhancing the overall tasting experience). If you prefer whisky on the rocks, ice balls are used instead of normal ice cubes to make sure the ice doesn’t melt too fast and dilute the taste of the whisky.
Grapes & Malts is an unpretentious wine and whisky drinking place housed in an old heritage building on Chow Thye Road, Penang. Offering comfortable seating with low ambient lighting & cozy music, it breaks the mould of other wood-paneled wine and whiskey bars around town.
They only served Cuckoo alkaline water for free, but if you need to mix with Whisky, they will recommend to buy the S.Pellegrino sparkling water or Acqua Panna Spring Water for better taste.
Serving on the board included 4 types of cheeses - Cheddar, Brie, Camembert and Edam with crackers and spring onion. I know, our jaw dropped when we saw the spring onion. We learnt that the French started eating like this, and it was our first time eating cheese with that. To our surprise, the spring onion actually made the flavor sweeter!
