When the restaurant first opened, everyone was raving about it and we thought "how good can a cheesecake be". Once we had a taste of it, we were hooked! Priced at RM20, you will get a slice of lusciously rich and creamy cheesecake with whipped cream. First to arrive was the Daging Rusuk, and the staff promptly portioned it out for us and served it on our plates. Great service! The beef ribs has first been braised, then charcoal grilled, imparting a delicious smokiness to the tender meat. The meat was especially good eaten with the air asam jawa as the tangy sauce pairs well with the rich meat. Highly recommended!

I'd like to say that my first dining experience at Nam Heong has been a positive one...though their famed Ipoh White Coffee (or black coffee) was a miss for me. I suppose if you're looking for hawker classics in a clean mall environment (and willing to pay mainstream mall prices), this could be a possibility! ^_~ Since what I tried was just a tiny fraction of what they offer, I wanted to return to try more...and I did....but my second outing left much to be desired. You see, I had seen quite a few dishes (on other blogs) that I wanted to try (like poached baby octopus, fried mantou with curry pork, mini assam laksa, etc.) that were available in Starling but was told they've just started (in Pavilion) and didn't have them on the menu yet. So I returned (more than 3 months later) one dinner night hoping that I may be able to savour these and more but couldn't find them on the menu. Not only that but we found some other dishes that we wanted to try (that were listed on their paper menu coz we were given a copy) not listed on their iPad menu (one such dish was the signature dry assam curry noodles which I wanted to try). There were also many dishes listed on the iPad as Sold Out (and some of them were their signature dishes). How can a restaurant run out of their signature dishes...at prime dinner time (7.30pm) on a weekend? I decided to ask a server and was told that whatever I can't find on the iPad means they don't have it anymore (I don't know if that meant just that evening or no longer on the menu for good...even something as simple as char siew rice)! @_@ In the end, we got up and left. This is certainly not the impression I have of how Nam Heong runs its business (unless it was just this outlet only). I doubt I'll return to a place where I have to second-guess what will or will not be on the menu or what I can or cannot have on any given day! :P

Established in 1958, this is where the tastes of traditional Ipoh fare live on, says Nam Heong. From Ipoh to KL, Nam Heong evolves with the test of time by introducing the use of technology to elevate the dining experience, hence earning its position as one of the most iconic brands in Ipoh’s rich culinary scene. No doubt on that.

We're usually here for lunch, and we can't resist a good deal when we see one. The Kalbi and filet set meal (RM30) is very good value for money - it comes with 150g of kalbi boneless rib as well as filet. The set also comes with kimchi, salad, rice and seaweed soup.

Due to changes in the currency exchange rate between the ringgit and the yen, Yakiniku Toraji has improved their signature premium course menu (while retaining the original price) to correctly reflect its true value. Not only the course will include more meat, some of the existing items have been upgraded as well. Lastly, you definitely would not want to miss Yakiniku Toraji’s weekday set lunch. There are two types, one comes with marinated Wagyu beef at RM30 (limited to 10 sets a day) and the other is served with Australian beef (no limit) at RM40. Every set is also accompanied by an appetizer, rice, salad and soup. Trust me, it’s super worth it

All in all, I like the warm interior and spaciousness of the place which makes it an ideal venue if you're looking for a nice, quiet place to have dinner...and a conversation (one that's obviously a lot less hectic and noisy than some of the other restaurants in this mall) ^_~ The food, though not outstanding but certainly more than average, is still decent enough in my books for a repeat visit as there are lots more on the menu to try.

Seafood Risotto RM39.90 Our favourite in D Empire Restaurant. Risotto is getting more common in Kuala Lumpur but not all done it right, sometimes over rich, sticky and way too difficult to finish. D Empire version is surprisingly delicious! Creamy gravy but not cloying, thickly coated to rice that is still hard at the centre of grain. Tossed with mussels, squid, prawns and clams.

Grilled Seabass (RM 46.90) One of my favorites of the day, the sea-bass is being grilled till perfection and leaves them with the flaky textures. The spicy coulis delights which is blend with the combination capers, olives, tomatoes and jalapenos in it.

In Sanoook, we hope to bring you the future of gourmet where cultures and tastes merge, creating a whole new culture of fun dining. ‘Sanook’ means ‘fun’ in Thai. The majority of the menu leans towards Thai specialities with Japanese offerings making up a small part of the menu only. The few that I tried, I have to say the Thai dishes made a more positive impact. The food I've managed to try here is average at best (though there's still plenty to try as the menu is quite extensive). Prices may be a little on the high side (for both types of cuisine, especially the desserts) but some of the Thai dishes do come in generous portion-sizes. I'm not sure if I'm convinced to order from the Japanese section of the menu again since they failed to nail the salmon skewer which I thought is one of the easiest things to execute. Managed by the fine folks of Chakri (of which I had the pleasure of dining before), I think the Thai dishes here are still worth checking out as they certainly won't be as expensive as Chakri. Just don't go in with too high an expectation and you should come off satisfied.

My favorite dish here at Tapas Club is the Arroz Negro (RM78), the squid ink paella with clams, fish and squid. The paella here is literally perfection; made with bomba rice, lovingly stirred with seafood stock for 20 minutes and a final blast of heat to create the essential soccarat (ie crust) at the bottom of the pan that a good paella must possess.

Gambas Alajillo/Garlic Prawns RM26 Took a while for Gambas Alajillo to arrived at our table but definitely worth the wait. One of our favourite Spanish tapas, also the more well-recognized tapas here in KL. Bouncy shrimps, deeply coated in flavours of garlic and olive oil. Came with toasted bread for us to mop the olive oil-based sauce clean.

Classic tonkatsu pork loin is the most perfect. Slight fatty yet you get the nice fragrant from pork oil and the the batter that they use makes it crips inside out, yet the meat is soft and juicy. Dip with their tonkatsu sauce is a perfect marriage.

Overall, it is a great place for a tonkatsu but with a price of almost RM50 for a meal is definitely not a meal that you can afford daily. I believe not many patrons able to refill as many rice as they can. Asians are not big eaters anyway.

Overall Comment: Staff service in Anzu is great, despite the unpleasant miscommunication experience from The Table Isetan KL phone reservation. Food wise, mediocre in taste but scores on pork quality. We recommend pork loin. Total bill came to ~RM220, including one sake and sho-ju order.

Although I've read some negative reviews of this place, I have to say I was pretty pleased with both the food and service on my two visits except for the overpriced drinks that didn't impress. The Spring Noodle Bowl wasn't something I thought I would enjoy but I did! Try the blackened salmon steak and grilled lime chicken or a bit of both in the Sea-to-Land Sharing Platter. Both starters I had (from the Raw Bar section of the menu) I liked too (and you will too if you enjoy tangy flavours). This was a place where the ratings weren't very flattering and yet it turned out better than I had hoped (in fact, even better than some I tried with higher ratings)...go figure! ^_~ So, don't take anyone's word for it...always try it out at least once (or twice in my case) to find out for yourself.

Although I'm glad that the standard of the food has been maintained, the service from the kitchen was far from smooth. The waiting period for our food leaves much to be desired and, if you want to eat here, do not expect your food to arrive in the right order that it should be. It all depends on how busy each individual food station is (steaming station, noodles station, frying station, etc.) with their orders as they seem to churn out food independent of each other. I guess if you choose your timing wisely (like during non lesser peak times), hopefully you may end up with a much better dining experience. ^_* But having said that, the food is still good, some decent but mostly good...plus it still serves one of my favourite XLBs. The only downside, their prices seem to have risen quite significantly but their portions still remain small...even a vegetable dish of pea shoots ("tau miew") can cost RM26....haiz!
