走入室內,發覺餐廳的面積真的不大。右邊兩張小圓形雲石餐桌相互依偎地靠向白色的右牆,還把牆角的精緻桌燈給遮掩了半邊。餐廳左邊則毫無規則地擺著又大又小的圓形餐桌。連同門外的三張餐桌,Ivy's Nyonya Cuisine大概只有不到十個餐座。朱紅色的墻面畫有攀岩植物狀的圖紋,還有一些鑲在鏡框中的圖畫作點綴。由天花板垂吊下來的鳥籠吊燈,甚有美感,可說是店裡最美的擺設了。對著室內用餐區域的小窗口,即是餐廳的櫃檯。在這旁邊,還有一條通往洗手間的小走廊,到處擺滿雜物。顯然的,餐廳的簡約裝潢從不打算譁眾取寵,反而毫無掩飾地保留了家的原貌,飄散著一股親切的味道。

Normally I’m not a fan of pork chops as the ones I’ve had previously have all turned out too dry for my liking. Surprisingly, Naughty Nuri’s Grilled Pork Chops begged to differ. The juicy cut of meat (sourced very carefully with just the right amount of fat vs lean meat) was lightly seasoned with salt and pepper and grilled to perfection. The meat was succulent and even better when eaten together with that layer of melt-in-your mouth fat.

While Great Delight Kitchen (悦为食) may operate like an ordinary restaurant, it actually runs on a business model like Private Kitchen. Customization of menu can be arranged with prior notice- simply inform the proprietor on the budget and they are able to customize the menu accordingly. The server proudly shared with us that the existing Teo Chew-influenced menu only covers 5% of what the restaurant could actually offer; as long as you can name it, they can cook it. Tables are limited and with its strong customer base, it is highly recommended that you make advance booking before visiting the place (we visited 3 times without booking and were turned down). The damage for this meal was slightly over RM 100 (for 3 pax), not exactly a cheap meal but we were pleased with the quality.

Though initially the price tag (RM 68) may give you a surprise but it is worth the value - it comes with half free-range chicken. Even though smaller in size, the free-range chicken meat was so tender and it absorbed the essence from the soup, giving a great level of satisfaction. As a matter of fact, the best way to enjoy the steamboat is to have the chicken first before adding in other ingredients, as this will ensure you savour the most original taste of the soup.

Most ingredients are home-made and they are not a big supporter over processed food either. The fully air-conditioned restaurant has a chic but cozy atmosphere, most suitable for family occasion or casual dining. The observant would notice their sleek stone pot, specially designed to suit the theme. A Hot Pot restaurant with heavy Cantonese-roots it seems; but as far as quality and service are concerned, I'd definitely love to revisit.

The gravy is definitely the one that makes Kim Leng loh mee unique. The thick gravy is flavourful and gives a bit hint of sweetness. It is very inviting. Next, KayaButter love its braised eggs, very well marinated. You can add extra ingredients as you like such as the chicken legs, braised eggs, meats and internal organs. Internal organs are not KayaButter’s favourite, so we ask them to exclude that in our loh mee. Oh ya, the loh mee also comes with pork’s skin.

YES, it is really really good. Crab are extremely fresh and fully absorb chili fragrance, we thought the spicy taste will overpower the crab sweetness but we are wrong, the crab still taste sweet and delicious. So how to eat dry steamboat? Well, they recommend us to finish all crab then they will pour water and we start eat soup steamboat as usual. The soup really taste good, spicy but flavorful.

Tomato Cappuccino is tomato soup served in a coffee cup and looks just like a latte with an artful swirl adorning the foam. Baby octopus, pesto, corn chips and cheese foam, take the liquid way above the standard red tradition. We scoop through the layers and take our first spoonful. Wow! This soup is incredible. We ended the night with a triple distilled single malt scotch whisky which was matured over 12 years. Served in a tulip shaped whisky glass which concentrates the aroma of the whisky to our noses (& enhancing the overall tasting experience). The Char Siew Rice is one of the choice from the daily set menu. Priced at RM 13.80, it is a real bargain considering the amount of char siew that we get. The rice was slightly mushy for our liking, especially when it was stirred with the onsen egg. Char siew was cooked to nice texture and the taste was averagely ok. Overall a great choice if you are looking something to fill your stomach.

If classic Hot Pot/ Steamboat is what you crave for during this rainy season, make your way to Chuan Yee Charcoal Steamboat. The Hot Pot specialist is well-known for those in the know, rumor says that the Chef originates from the same kitchen as Yi Bing Qing Fish Head Steamboat (at Nagore Road). Chuan Yee serves the communal broth in milky white hue, with the Deep Fried Fish (Head) served separately. Sets are pre-fixed but those with big appetite can always have the extra orders. Prices may seem on the higher side but they commensurate with large serving portion. The demand is high here so making advance reservation may be a wise choice. Chuan Yee Charcoal Steamboat is tucked in one of the heritage houses at Kek Chuan Road, off Macalister Road, Georgetown.

ÉNFD is an abbreviation of 'Énfold'- pronounced as 'unfold' with a meaning of 'gather and envelop' people through good food. It runs like a private kitchen, though walk-ins are welcome, the dining space is limited and could only host no more than 15 diners at a time. The dining hall preserves the sense of heritage with minimal interior decor; probably meant to encourage and enhance camaraderie amongst diners. It is a space that one could really talk and engage with each other. On the menu, the list of magical offering is unique and creatively crafted by the team behind ÉNFD; with focus on using Herbs and Spices ('local flavors') to intermingle with international flavors. The conservatives will find the menu too playful and to me, this is the attitude in lacking especially in the culinary scene in Penang. The brunch menu is only available on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 am to 3 pm.

Recently Yan Yam Cafe 炎茶餐室 – 炒叻沙/东炎面 added a touch of coffee shop dining to the scene with a handful of hawker stalls. One of the stalls offers an interesting dish of Fried Laksa. This fried base noodle is slightly spicy, sweet and sour with a distinct aromatic and pungent flavour, just like the popular Penang Assam Laksa soup noodle.

Although in Malaysia we do not have the famous AquaS softserve at Sydney and I certainly do know Penang have a few softserve Ice cream which is quite interesting. When I was back over last weekend, my friend introduce me to Urban Artisan. Co that do produce some interesting combinations of flavors. By reading some other blogs, certainly believe these owners are creative chaps as the flavors that they have in those blogs and mine is different.
