We wrap up the whole meal with a plate of stir-fry cabbage RM3.00 (RM1.50 per head) since the lady boss highly recommends to us, just decided to have it since it was cheap and need to meet our fiber intake quota for that day. 😉 Guess our tongue was malfunctioning because we really felt that the stir-fried cabbage was the best dish we had throughout the meal (the first dish we cleared in Hoe Kee), cabbage has an irresistible crunchy texture and tend to be less greasy, super sweet and flavourful with a delightful scent of garlic – with this dish alone guess we can clear a plate of plain rice without any problem!

Hoe Kee Chicken Rice, a popular destination for Hainanese Chicken Rice Balls.
I wouldn't recommend to join the crazy hype for chicken rice balls. Klang Valley has way better chicken rice... But I have to admit, their rice balls is something unique you can't really get in Klang Valley. Sorry to the friend who brought me there, thank you for lunch! No intention to sound so ungrateful, after all it's your presence that counts, not the chicken! The very long queue in front of Hoe Kee Chicken Rice Ball extended down to Singapore. Yes, that’s an exaggeration, but it was long enough to push my
All in all it was a pleasant meal, this being one of Melaka's most famous food establishments. Next stop: desserts!
The overall meal came to RM 40.00 inclusive of 2 Chinese tea. Not very expensive but definitely not worth the queue as there are much better Hainanese chicken rice available throughout KL but I definitely won’t mind queuing for the Assam Fish Head though!
I would recommend Chung Wah if you want an authentic taste of one of the oldest chicken rice ball shops in Melaka but if you’re looking for something beyond the ordinary, check out Hoe Kee Chicken Rice – it has that zing/oomph/whatever-you-call-it factor due to their house specialty – the Asam Fish Head.
Lunch came to RM 77.20 in total, including the 4 coconuts (RM 16). That works out to be around RM 15.50 per person, pretty decent price for a very satisfying lunch at a comfortable environment.
One of Melaka‘s signature food is Chicken Rice Balls, which is nothing but Hainan Chicken Rice served using rice shaped like a ping pong sized ball. And a trip to Melaka wouldn’t be complete without having Chicken Rice Balls unless you are a frequent visitor. There are two famous restaurants at Jonk…
