Once I knew I was heading to Melaka for a short trip, the first thing on my mind was Cendol1!! Jonker 88 was my favourite since the first time I went when I was 14 years old. *10 years ago, I'm old.*
Food ordering is self service here at Jonker 88. Before you order, you need to find a table first. Then you also need to bring the food to your own table. The food is prepared pretty fast so even if there is a long queue, it won’t be a long wait.
We ordered the Jumbo Baba Laksa, which cost a bomb (RM 10++). When I am at Malacca, I normally opt for curry laksa, the one with coconut milk, and not the one akin to asam laksa, with kembung fish and dark clear soup. I absolutely love their laksa! I love the soup for its creaminess but it's not full of fats kind of creaminess.
Last but not least, each of us ordered a bowl of Cendol for dessert. Two main types that's popular here are the signature Baba Cendol w/ gula melaka RM4.00+ and the Baba Durian Cendol RM5.00+. The cendol here were quite disappointing, we all agreed the SG version is much nicer than this. Maybe we'll try the Ice Kacang next time.
My personal fave is the Baba Laksa, the spicy coconut broth was very good. Some of my friends preferred the slightly sourish mixed broth laksa, but we all agreed that the Nyonya laksa was not as nice as the original Penang laksa.
A trip to Melaka is not complete with a visit to Jonker 88. Years back when I first paid Melaka a visit it was the best chendol I have eve...
After having the famous chicken rice ball at Kedai Kopi Chung Wah, just walk along the road of Jalan Hang Jebat, you will see another famous restaurant which is known as Jonker 88. If you cannot find the place, just ask anyone from a shop along the road about this place, they will surely able to lead you there. Too famous!
environment in the restaurant was awesome feels like somewhere far away antique! unique! thats all I can say
Jonker 88 is located along the busy Jonker Street, and is very popular among tourists, judging from the long queue outside the shop. They are known for their cendol and durian cendol. I found this place extremely overrated, and would usually get my durian cendol fix from Jeta Grooves.
