We like the tauhu and kai lan of Ping Wah (because of salted fish) more. The bitter gourd with pork slices were just lack of some taste.
My lunch: MYR 12.20 nett - a bit of chicken, a bit of potatoes and pork, and more sweet potatoes leaves.
The dishes are: Silky Smooth omelette, deep fried fish with fried slices of ginger, braised chicken with fried garlic, slices of potatoes with pork, beancurd and vegetables. Total costs is MYR 190 nett for 10 pax.
Giving a run to Ming Heong, this place also serves quite a good rendition of sweet sour pork. However, it would be unfair to say it's a straight up comparison as both are done quite differently. These are definitely better than those served at economy rice stalls (God knows how many of those I've tried) and it's nice to have them made to order for once. A bit crunchy with the sticky caramel sweet sauce.
Verdict : The place to go to, when you want a taste of home cooked food.
Fried Pork Ribs with Fermented Beancurd We did not plan to order this, but ended up 3 dishes weren't enough for four of us. However, no regrets in adding this dish to our dinner. When it was served, I was preparing myself for a bone-dry pork ribs. How wrong I could have been! The pork ribs were nicely seasoned with the fermented beancurd, and the meat did not dry up from the frying.
This dai chao actually sells Hainanese-style dishes. I don’t really know much about it, it’s just a simple dinner with 3 dishes for me and Beng Tian. There’s a Kailan fried with salted fish, omelette with preserved turnip (chai poh egg) and the very special pork fried with potato. The dinner was good especiall the pork with potato because it’s something different that I’ve never tried before, Kailan was as usual pretty standard and the omelete was pretty nice too! 2 person, 3 dishes, 2 herbal teas, RM27. What do you think?
The choy poh egg (RM10) was no ordinary egg and it was my favourite dish that night. It was a simple yet well-prepared dish. The egg white is cooked till fluffy before the egg yolk is poured on top for a creamy touch. Chopped choy poh (pickled vegetables) is added to give it a salty bite. I regretted ordering just a small portion of this dish.
