Restaurant Nyonya Treats Cuisine is a no pork no lard place so it's suitable for our Muslim pals. The taste as overall was average to us and in fact, was on the saltier side. It will be more interesting to taste more Nyonya cuisines in Johor so as to compare more.
Thick slab of otah paste encasing mackerel flakes. I am not joking when I say this beats Muar Otak flat.
Oh yes.. cannot leave Nyonya Treats without Durian Cendol! Yummssssss...
The food wasn't exquisite but there were quite nice dishes like the butter prawns and steamed grouper.
This is a seafood restaurant that in the village of orang asli where located near by the Singapore. Customers can see the sea view and Singapore from Restoran Asli. Restoran Asli prov…
Five dishes for five pax only costed us RM139 which I am quite sure that you will hardly get the same price in other seafood restaurants in Johor Bahru. However, the dishes here are just for satisfaction of craving and we actually felt the quality of food is sliding down, comparing to few years back. If you are looking for quality and fine seafood cuisine, Restoran Asli may not be the right destination.
One of the Popular Dim Sum Places in Johor among Singaporeans.
At any price point, I can't think of a better place than JB Taman Perling's 北海仔虾面 stall to indulge in prawn noodles with rich robust prawn stock and large fresh sea Tiger prawns.
There are many dishes we have not tried. I guess there will be many chances, we will be back there again.
With so many up trends cafe and dessert places in Johor Bahru, this is one of the few places that I had come across serving traditional hot and cold desserts like this. Desserts are decent, however, the service will make me have a second thought before revisiting the place.
We enjoyed all the dishes, the great company, and ended our whole day food trail in Kluang on a happy, and delicious note thanks to Lai Hing zhi cha 煮炒 in JB.
Simply and tasty Kway Teow Soup in Taman Perling.
Breakfast place in Taman Perling, Johor Bahru for your consideration.
Restoran MJ serves both poached and deep fried chicken. Mr. Leo said both are equally popular.
Steamed fish with generous topping of crispy friend garlic.
My friends enjoyed the meal and they said they be back for more.
They are also famous for their fish here hence we ordered a poached red snapper. The fish was sourced from Pontian daily. The fish was drenched in their savoury sauce and was smothered with fried garlic and chopped spring onions. Fresh, juicy and meaty. They're not only selling BKT but also tze char dishes. We ordered a couple of vegetable dishes to go along with the soup and fish.
Another version of chaat that uses mini puri is Pani Puri, which is served in a set of six puri with a side of sauce. The dark sauce has a distinct tangy taste from tamarind and is highly palatable especially when it is spooned into the opening of the tiny puri and then the whole puri should be popped into the mouth. Once again, it is a feat to accomplish but I assure you that it promises very tasty results.
The Spice Kitchen is definitely a decent place to have your North or South Indian meal in Johor Bahru and another good thing about this place is that they are open till 11 pm daily. We tried a number of dishes, some were very good and some were just okay. Despite the mixed reviews, I would say that this place is worth visiting, especially for cross border travelers who are looking for a vegetarian meal when most places would have already closed for the day. Nevertheless, the ambiance is excellent and their prices are reasonable.
Anyway, this was our dinner for that evening... We were quite disappointed though... Waited for an hour and the two curries were just lukewarm... Well, perhaps we were too hungry that we over-expected...
Fried Durian and 3-in-1 chinese cake from Wah Cai 3-in-1 Chinese Cake 华仔炸年糕
The most famous foods in this shop is the 3 in 1 fried glutinous rice cake. 3 in 1 fried glutinous cake means there is a layer of sweet potato, glutinous rice cake, taro and a thin layer of frying batter.
If you have ever went to Malaysia Boleh, they do have similar stall with the same signboard selling fried durian too. It will be the best alternative if you do not have time to travel down into Johor.
Claypot Lamb Curry - I was very surprised to find that the curry is had some lamb shank in it! It was very worth the RM34 with the oh-so-tender meat and for the large portion. The curry was tasty and packed with spices so this isn't a mild curry to say the least.
Their Gobi Masala was really good. Thick spicy gravy accompanied the cauliflowers and the preparation was excellent. Similarly, their Chili Mushroom was good too. My rating for both dishes shall be 9/10.
We were presented several of 7 Spice's popular dishes and this huge curry fish head (RM50) was the centre piece. The fresh, thick, supple and still moist flesh was half submerged in thick curry gravy. The fragrant and flavourful curry was smooth and not too spicy, and would appeal to most palettes.
I chose Chicken Shawarma Plate, four pieces of something that looked like Samosa filled with minced meat, Falafel with Humus and Beef Pizza. And I guess I had overeaten my late lunch with all that was put on the table.
Nanti lain kali nak makan set dulanglah, lagi jimat kot, hihi.
I memang dah jatuh hati dengan pizza sentuhan negara timur tengah, pizza dari restoran arabian. Lagi sedap dari biasa weyyyy... tak tau la macam kemaruk pulak hahaha!
I personally think that this dim sum place is quite decent. Portion maybe a little but good enough for me.
Say Yes Hong Kong Dim Sum 思源香港点心 serves tasty food in a nice and comfortable environment at reasonable prices. Good deal.
Based on our observation during few visits to Say Yes, it is normally crowded during public holidays and weekends. It was once that we needed to queue up for half an hour before we got seated.
Istanbul restaurant in Horizon Hills, Johor Bahru. Is where you go to find authentic Ottoman Turkish cuisine apparently.Well, let’s go and check it out then....
My most favourite is also the chef’s recommendation, Firin Beyti Kebabi. This is stated as the favorite dish of Sultan Abdul Medjid. It contains beef mince, lamb, garlic, chili, cheese, mushrooms and tomato in dough.
Terpegun kejap tengok deko kedainya. Mengikut kata tuan punya kedai En Mustapha, kesemua perhiasan, termasuk lampu, karpet, cawan, pinggan mangkuk dan juga Chefnya pun, semua dari Turki. Dah kata kedai makan Turki, so mestilah fefeeling pun nak kena ada kaann, hehehe.
It seems a popular choice for weddings too and I'd say for banquet food, it is really decent. I'd love to be back to try the other dishes!
Pekin have roast suckling pig on the regular menu, so walk in customers can have this without pre-ordering.
Overall, this is a superb restaurant. For me, I will avoid the peking duck, as there are plenty of better examples of this art around (the Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck in Paragon is the grandmaster of the art). But the seafood is fresh, expertly cooked, and tastes superb...all for a price you cannot get in Singapore.
Ah Hong Kopitiam has two branches in Johor Bahru which one is located in Taman Sutera Utama while another one is located in Taman Mount Austin. Today, we visit the branch that located in Taman Sutera Utama.
nasi lemak rice was ok fragrant but really nowhere by adam road selera rasa nasi lemak standard..
My family and I had a wonderful breakfast at Ah Hong Kopitiam. The place was earthly coffee coloured theme seemed like an oasis to baby boomers. We found that Ah Hong a very pleasant kopitiam for familiar comfort foods like tea, coffee, toast with kaya and egg , mee siam (noodles), nasi lemak and etc.
All in all, the ambience of Fika Farmhouse scores but the food on the other hand was pretty decent and standard fare.
Fika Farmhouse serves up a mix of Western and local cuisine with a twist so you can choose what you’re feeling like that day. Try their Char-Grilled Seafood Fried Rice if you’re craving something local. Or choose from Salted Egg Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti, Szechuan Mala Tenderloin Pasta, Pan Seared Salmon Steak – and end your meal with their coffee, hot tea, fizzy drinks and variation of desserts. There’s no better way to celebrate good brunch!
I know that my nephew’s choice of Salmon Mentaiko Benedict meets with his expectations. It comprises two poached eggs topped with Mentaiko Hollandaise sauce and asparagus sticks resting on split toasted English muffins spread with house-made Guacamole. Two poached eggs in Salmon Mentaiko Benedict I can see how he’s enjoying his gooey eggs that blends well with Mentaiko Hollandaise sauce and the way he’s wiping the plate clean with pieces of muffin.
