No offense to people who love Huang Chang Chicken Rice and willing to queue for it, but personally I think it’s terrible. In fact, the worst chicken rice I have ever had in Melaka. From what I understand, many people recommend this place because it’s cheaper than the rest. But cheaper does not mean a lot here because it’s not like you can eat and get out in a jiffy. The restaurant is stuffy too and definitely not comfortable for families with kids.

Overall, you can find comfort food here. This is Melaka style chicken rice and please take note we didn’t order the roast chicken. The food prices here are reasonable and hence it could be the reason why it is so popular among the locals here.
Chiak Song (吃爽) is a seafood restaurant in Batu Berendam that serves primarily shellfish dishes, kind of like what you would get at longkang siham. But they don’t just boil the seafood, they actually cook then with some of their homemade sauces. So the variety you get is better, albeit not by a lot.
Before Mango Float Royale Melaka started their business in Sungai Putat, the site was already known for mee kari. Mee Kari Sungai Putat has been around since 1990 and is currently managed by the 3rd generation of the same family. Now, both businesses are complementing each other, as those who come for mango float can have a proper meal at Mee Kari Sungai Putat, and vice versa. Because of that, the place has transformed into a popular stopover for tourists to enjoy a quick meal before heading into Melaka town.
I think I’d agree with my wife’s assessment – nothing bad about Happy Dream, but I won’t rush back. If you’re passing and want seafood, it should work for you.

It has been a while since we posted Melaka food so this is one of the recent restaurant we visited this year. This is one of the hidden gems that is not popular with tourists. Low Yong Moh Dim Sum Restaurant opened since 1947 and it is one of the oldest restaurants in Melaka. They are located at 32, Jalan Tokong Melaka and they open daily for breakfast except Tuesdays. Food ordering is self service here at Jonker 88. Before you order, you need to find a table first. Then you also need to bring the food to your own table. The food is prepared pretty fast so even if there is a long queue, it won’t be a long wait.
We ordered the Jumbo Baba Laksa, which cost a bomb (RM 10++). When I am at Malacca, I normally opt for curry laksa, the one with coconut milk, and not the one akin to asam laksa, with kembung fish and dark clear soup. I absolutely love their laksa! I love the soup for its creaminess but it's not full of fats kind of creaminess.
We wrap up the whole meal with a plate of stir-fry cabbage RM3.00 (RM1.50 per head) since the lady boss highly recommends to us, just decided to have it since it was cheap and need to meet our fiber intake quota for that day. 😉 Guess our tongue was malfunctioning because we really felt that the stir-fried cabbage was the best dish we had throughout the meal (the first dish we cleared in Hoe Kee), cabbage has an irresistible crunchy texture and tend to be less greasy, super sweet and flavourful with a delightful scent of garlic – with this dish alone guess we can clear a plate of plain rice without any problem!
