The highlight of the buffet spread is Chef Dato' Ismail's most famous creation, the Ayam Golek Istana, a royal dish traditionally served in the palace. The chicken was beautifully tender, and is complemented by the well-spiced sauce.

Likes: Good food but could be better. Food is served luke warm. Dislikes: Service is not that great - we made a reservation a week ahead but they placed us at a table next to the toilet, upstairs for a birthday celebration. I thought they could be nicer to place us at a table downstairs since we requested it at least a week ahead. Also, the prices a quite challenging too considering that the portion is very, very small.

In conjunction to its 10th anniversary, Aliyaa Island Restaurant will be hosting a Jaffna Food Festival, a showcase of over 50 dishes from the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. A special guest chef will be joining the team to create authentic Jaffna cuisine throughout the 4-day period. Whereas the restaurant will also transform into a ‘Little Jaffna’ throughout the festival with traditional decorations that will take you on a ‘Journey to Yalpanam’. This buffet-style celebration will be available for Lunch and Dinner, with the first session open on the evening of October 30th until November 2nd. Why the Prep Room? ‘Cos it’s all about preparation work! When one learn about their dishes and how they are made, you will understand. Almost every elements are made from scratch! And I was really impressed with their efforts – Kuan Ling who creatively married local ingredients with Thai spices and churn out a storm of special dishes with Western touches too. Penang Char Kuey Teow, 12.90 ringgit I was surprised truly, I did not expect it to taste as real as it would be. You’d be able to tell the difference between a dish from a hawker stall and a proper, more established eatery, right? There is simply that extra ‘kick’ that comes in one and absent in the other. The dish here tasted like it came out of a hawker stall, the authenticity is maintained – tastewise. It was yummy! There were the tasty noodles with 3 medium sized prawns + sprouts + ‘kerang’ and egg. I’d order it again.

Swish swish the meat in the hot pot and you can taste the fragrant and juicy meat of it. Don’t miss out their pork balls as well where they have them with the cheese in it. The ooziness of the cheese coming out with just a bite of it. Hu La La … That’s just awesome!
