Overall, we really enjoyed the dishes here. The noodles and broth are exceptionally delicious, and we really like the mustard greens and tofu puffs here.

In Johor Bahru, you’ll find no shortage of eateries serving kway teow kia. But many taxi drivers swear by Restoran Woon Kiang. Touted as one of JB’s best, this eatery serves theirs in a herbal broth which sets them apart from competitors.

If you search for the best places to eat in Johor, Kam Long Curry Fish Head will definitely appear on any list. Even though we were there after lunch hours at around 2:30 pm, we still had to queue to get in. But fortunately, I think we only waited about 15 mins or so as they were quick to move peopl…
Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh (强记肉骨茶) is located at Batu 8, Jalan Mawai, Kampung Haji Mohd Jambi, 81900 Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia. Yup, you read that right, Kota Tinggi. Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh is actually an hour’s drive away from Johor Bahru. So the big question is whether Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh is worth
Kiang Kee Bah Kut Teh is a favorite place amongst bikers because of two reasons. Firstly, they make one of the tastiest herbal Malaysian BKT. Secondly, it is located in the middle of nowhere which …
Will you drive 40 mins to an Hour for a bowl of Famous Bak Kut Teh?
Noodle texture here is certainly different. abit chewy, slightly fatter and certainly the sauce that they have is one of its kind. Unique yet pretty good. Wan ton size here is slightly bigger compare to KL too, in a normal traditionally wan tan mee per plate. Adding their own chili sauce is abit unique but still prefer the original taste which is better. Simple and direct.
Another unique point for ‘Chop See Kee Wanton Mee’ is it is in creamy colour while most of the Wantan Mee is in black colour. This is because the sauce of Wantan Mee is made with the soy sauce, lard and chili sauce.
Yes. Restoran Ya Wang’s longstanding history is a testament to its food, especially the Roasted Duck with Angelica Herb! Over the decades, countless Singaporean families have crossed the causeway just to have a taste of the delicious roasted duck, and you shouldn’t miss it too.
It was a good experience of herbal duck and worth a visit.
Next up would be the signature herbal roasted duck for which we were served the most expensive part; the drumstick! Obviously the highlight, the meat was juicy and succulent although the skin could be crispier and the taste of herb, in my opinion, wasn't strong enough. I guess the ones with angelica herb or ten wonder herbs would be better but they were only available for order as one whole duck!
Restoran Hua Mui is an institution in JB. Many who cross the border make their way immediately here for breakfast – just as we did. Fried Egg with Chicken Cutlet Sandwich. Bread so soft, egg …
Overall, we really enjoyed the dishes here at Hua Mui. Hua Mui executed most of the dishes well – which we deem to be above the average of most kopitiam fare. In particular, we enjoyed the chicken chop, half-boiled eggs and toast.
Hua Mui's Hainanese chicken chop is still among JB's best. Prices remain competitive.
Steamed fish with generous topping of crispy friend garlic.
My friends enjoyed the meal and they said they be back for more.
They are also famous for their fish here hence we ordered a poached red snapper. The fish was sourced from Pontian daily. The fish was drenched in their savoury sauce and was smothered with fried garlic and chopped spring onions. Fresh, juicy and meaty. They're not only selling BKT but also tze char dishes. We ordered a couple of vegetable dishes to go along with the soup and fish.
Their dim sum are affordably priced within RM2 to RM9.50 (SGD0.70 to SGD3.20) and my total bill for 2 pax amounted to about RM46 (SGD15.30), which is very good value for the quality of dim sum they serve. While there are quite a handful of online reviews which complained about their level of service and attitude of staff, I have to say the place is genuinely busy. Hence, I am contented with the good food and minimal service at this price point.
Overall, Restoran Gim Cheng Dim Sum still makes a great dim sum place. Do note that it can be very crowded during the weekend! You see the queue lining up from 9am. Once, I visited around 11am and find that most items were sold out. Thus, if possible be there early!

Admittedly, I frequent Johore Bahru quite often. And it came as a surprise when I told some friends and colleagues I was thinking of going to this seafood restaurant known as Todak, and many were aware of this place for the longest time!
After this, we went to Restoran Todak (Orang Asli) to have our dinner
Sambil duduk sambil lihat pemandngan laut. Seberang sana tu Singapura. Kalau waktu petang, kalau nasib korang baik, akan dapat lihat matahari terbenam, sangat cantik!.
Wat Tan Hor - Flat rice noodle in thick egg gravy.
Obviously there were many patrons from Singapore, but San Low Seafood for my own experience is charge reasonably despite its proximity to the custom. So recommend fellow friends to try out :)
Tried the famed San Low Bee Hoon, along with black pepper chicken, beancurd with minced meat, and sweet potato leaves with fermented beancurd (RM75.65 for 4 pax, including drinks). Gotta say the food was really just so-so… 😡
Local Food for the breakfast. Simple but satisfying.
Price of food here is not expensive and it gives you a very local kind of feel as there are many locals who come and have their breakfast here. Some even take away to bring to work. For half boiled egg and coffee lover Restoran Kin Hua got you covered !
Restoran Kin Wah is a popular breakfast haunt that both locals and tourists flock to. Nestled along the foodie haven of Jalan Trus, this unassuming coffee shop
I was pleased that the taste and texture of their family recipe noodles were as consistently agreeable as when it was served from the stall that Elton and his father used to run, years ago.
It was the statement, “Ho Seng Kee is the best wanton mee ever” that made me head to JB. I literally went, “Let’s go”.
Since 1936, Ho Seng Kee (HSK) Wantan Mee has been an Nostalgic Flavour in Johor Bahru (JB) for over 81 years. It has served across three to four generations ...
Verdict: Without any anticipation, our lunch at Soon Lai turned out to be a rather pleasant one, if only the waiting time to be shorter. Tasty food and wallet friendly pricing, I certainly don’t mind to come back again!
I think the only possible way to describe kuey chap would be that it is a dish that utilises every single possible part of a pig (meat, intestines, even the blood!) and mixes it in with a clean tasting soy sauce based broth to concoct a delicious combination.
The oyster sauce here is not the same as that of Penang Street in Penang. The scorpion is a large triangle, the soup is more fragrant, and the side dishes are also varied. It is delicious with spicy sauce!
Its a routine to order Satay from this stall every time during our visit and if you love Pork Satay, this is definitely recommended.
There are two dishes which I will want to highlight is the stall selling Claypot Chicken Rice. It is one of the best I tried in Malaysia, Johore. Small is RM7 and Big is RM15. Especially during peak hours, you will have to wait a little longer but good food, always worth the wait isn’t it. The moment it arrived, off the cover from the claypot and the fragrance of steam floating out was awesome! The combination of Chinese Sausages, Salted Fish, Chicken and the mixture of Black Sauce and Rice make gave it the perfect taste.
BBQ stingray and sotong are our favourite and must order even though I know I am not able to hold the sambal chilli well. It is spicy but delicious and the meat is tender and fresh. Grilled stingray and sotong - Rm42
Despite it being peak lunch hour, the service at Restoran Yew Swee was fast, and the waitresses were attentive.
YOU CAN ORDER MEN HOON KUIH WITH YOUR CURRY LAKSA. +++ Brownie points. :D A small bowl of laksa was definitely more than enough for me - look at how generous the toppings are! Fishball, fired tofu skin, tofu, cockles, bean sprout...simmering in a rich curry laksa broth with a strong hint of coconut milk. Simply divine. The laksa here is more towards the lemak-y side (read: rich in coconut milk!), I tend to steer clear from food that is rich in coconut milk but Yew Swee curry laksa is a huge exception!
Restoran Yew Swee has the top band of laksa, kway teow soup, lor mee, mee hoon kueh, and their oversized prawn cracker is very good too.
The last round when I visited Restoran Chua Kee was 10 over years ago. I can vividly remember rushing into Johor Bahru from Tuas 2nd Link after our working hours and have a 1 hour quick journey up into Gelang Patah for this Cze Char. During then, the restaurant was not renovated and we have to kind of dining on the side streets on the road pavement but today the dining area is sheltered.
Our research showed that this BBQ Chicken Wing is a must-try dish in Chua Kee. The chicken wings were deep fried then coated with honey and barbecue sauce, definitely an excellent beer food.
I was able to taste the natural sweetness of the fresh fish meat.
Satay - Portion was definitely meatier than satay sold in most Singapore stalls and i couldn't wait to bite into each of them to enjoy the satisfaction of my teeth slowly sinking into the meat. Sadly, i didn't quite like the marination which contained more spices than sugar whereas Singapore's version tends to be on the sweeter side.

If you’re in downtown JB and looking for something good to eat, this spot is worth checking out for a good representation of JB-style wanton noodles.

For Singaporeans who get tired of the mall's food in KSL Shopping mall, try walking along the food streets nearby. This is definitely a good try and pocket-saving.
Restoran Yit Foh Wanton Mee is a great place to enjoy delicious and affordable wanton noodles, and I’m happy to have discovered this eatery in Johor Bahru.
Food Century Instagram:@myfoodcentury Tiktok:my…

Asian breakfast gone kopitiam style. The beehoon goreng was really tasty, noodles with the right bite and sufficient amount of spice!
